    Hey guys, I had code p0017 and p0368 in a Sienna 08 I fixed it by replacing the camshaft sensor, the AutoZone brand didn’t work so I used one from the junk yard! Works like a charm

    Hi! It might be a long question with background.
    I bought ES350 2009 @ 223K miles few months ago. At the time of purchase tests showed P0011, P0012, P0013, P0015, P0016, P0017 and the engine is rebuilt. There was no issue at the time apart from 1-3 seconds upto a minute of rattling sound on start (cold, hot and sometimes while waiting at a red light).
    It had 5W30 in it then at the time of engine service. At service the Oil guy told me to go for 20W50 coz the engine was old. My bad I listened to him, and from the time I started the engine after changing the oil, I felt something off. Engine felt heavy, it took effort to run and mild vibration on idling.
    The next morning when I started the car the rough idling was wayyy more. The RPM was dancing, low and high on its own. The car wants to let go if I keep breaks on at D. Since then it comes and goes away as it wills. There is no check engine light. Since last 2 days the AC compressor doesn’t switch on if I’m waiting at D. As soon as I switch to N it starts cooling and sometimes it doesn’t work on P either.
    My mechanic told me everything is coz of the VVT gears and timing chain. It needs adjust only.
    I checked it again yesterday with autel scanner at the workshop and it gave P0011 & P0016 only.
    He’s adamant that solenoids and sensors are fine as there is no check engine light.
    All the UA-cam videos I saw, they keep VVT to be the last thing wrong but my mechanic is going the other way around. He didn’t check the connections, the sensors or solenoids.
    PLEASE TELL ME WHAT SHOULD I DO?
    I’m sorry it’s too long, but I had to explain. Thanks in advance.

    this actuation test is not dangerous for the engine, as the engine is running?

      Thanks for watching. No my friend, it’s recommended by workshop manual. And the variable valve timing system is to work when engine is running.

    What part of cam moves when using compressed air, vvt inners or camshaft and could that damage valves

  • @Dj_Barlethh
    @Dj_Barlethh 6 місяців тому

    Do you think if the Mechanic when he changed the Engine Timing Cover he could damage the chain ? He says he will move the engine without starting it to see if the time chain moves after he did he says it rotate well and the chain is fine do you think thats accurate?

  • @BrianaThaGamer

    do you have to go under the car to change both cam and crankshaft ? or can you do it from the top

    • @AutomotiveDiagnosis
      @AutomotiveDiagnosis  3 місяці тому

      Hi there, Cam sensor can be reached from the top-rear side of engine. But crank sensor is on the bottom side. It can be on front or rear side. If it’s on the front, it might be accessible from the top, or by removing a wheel, but if it’s on the rear side of engine, reaching from underneath is possible.

    Hi sir which one do you think is better launch or xtool and thank you for this interesting video

    • @AutomotiveDiagnosis
      @AutomotiveDiagnosis  8 місяців тому +1

      Hi my friend. Xtool is not bad for some special functions (depends on the model), but if I consider all aspects, I would go for Launch. I have 6 different scanners, but as you see in the videos, I mostly use Launch.

    You need to use an engine oil flush at every oil change and recommended fully synthetic engine oil to avoid the problem closed by the sludge.

    Guys I had a 2017 Elantra with code p0017 , timing chain was stretched , installed new timing chain and guides and new timing chain gears intake and exhaust, after repair the same code came back , you have to do an adaptive reset for the engine , has to be done with and autel scanner or something equivalent! Hope it helps!

    Could'nt it also be a bad reluctor ?

    • @AutomotiveDiagnosis
      @AutomotiveDiagnosis  8 місяців тому +1

      Yes, it could be the cause as well, generally for that sort of fault, we will have the crank sensor fault as well, and if we don’t, we can diagnose it with an oscilloscope.
