It is also very clear that he may have threatened EY Employees not to attend Anna's funeral thats the reason no one from EY attended funeral. Work pressure, nepotism and favouritism are in corporate environments/private companies is very common phenomenon and not a new thing. Education institutes/colleges should give training for STRESS MANAGEMENT and MENTAL HEALTH apart from curriculum. Employees mental health as well as physical health are important for work life balance. 99% Employers are focusing on finance capital and they never focus on human capital because there is abundance of unemployed educated persons in India. Government should do safety measures for employee’s working hours, conditions and stringent in the enforcement of our existing labour laws.

The issue of exploitation in the workplace is pervasive, affecting various sectors, not just corporate offices. Recently, an info oldie openly demanded that tech employees work 70-hour weeks, a blatant disregard for workers' rights despite access to ILO reports highlighting global standards.
While corporate employees may receive decent salaries and benefits, this doesn't justify extended hours. The government takes a hefty 48% of their earnings through taxes like IT and GST, effectively squeezing both time and money from them. This creates a modern form of slavery.
What we need is a standardized 8-hour workday for all employees, without exceptions.

We get threatened by Senior Management stating to go and complaint to HR if you want to nothing will be done. And its true HR also turn a blind eye. Indian Labour law does not give importance to employees satisfaction and personal well-being. This poor girl lost her life because she was just an employee, a worker, another statistic to yet another ungrateful company.

Lack of familial and societal support for those who wanna quit and search for better opportunities. Indians thrive in the emotion of fear.
Fear and lack based mindset runs the recruitment game. No matter how good you are, the companies act like you are replaceable. Because even with half your pay they get freshers or someone to do the basic job and train them.
Companies don't invest in people. They act like they are giving freebies. Employees need to have collective mindset and self respect. That's how you change the power dynamics.

Who will speak up against his/her boss? While it is much easier to sometimes say that you should speak up against toxic work culture, those who are in the corporate world may agree that it is not easy. How many can say NO to their bosses? How many can say that I won't work on a Sunday when asked for an urgent deliverable?
Secondly, even if someone dares to do that, whom will they complain to? Which HR has the power, or even intent, to take corrective actions against business leaders and seniors to address the issue of toxic work culture?
Not only will this take systemic change in our work environments, but a HUGE CULTURAL CHANGE. expecting juniors to speak up just WON'T WORK.

It's high time, the youth should.
    1. Stop comparing yourself with others.
    2. Understand materialistic showoffs like big car and big houses will only help financiers and won't bring happiness to you.
    3. Don't chase after money, instead do what you love.
    4. Don't work as if you are inevitable for the company. If you leave, the next one will take your seat.
    5. Love yourself and enjoy being alone sometimes.
    6. Be healthy.
I took that hard call, resigned the 10x6 sales job which was taking a toll on my physical and mental health, to follow my passion. Yeah i am earning only 1/4th of what i am used to. But surprisingly, when you earn less, we will adapt to better living. No show-off, No comparison, No rat race. Just inner peace, calm, easy and healthy life.

India & China have the obsession to work like anything, as there are no laws for non Public-sector employees for well-being of employees
Government are only to tap taxes of middle-class people, but have no laws to protect the Pvt sector employees. Also, when they are laid-off, they have no guarantee for Job-security.
The pay-scale in India is quite low to Western-countries, so instead of making 1 employee work for 18 hours a day, hire 2 people to work 9 hours a day - why so much of obsession with Profitablity?

  • @richardtvtv
    @richardtvtv Місяць тому +10

The top management at EY needs to be held accountable. It is unfortunate that the overwork killed Anna, but the disgusting part of the whole ordeal is that EY is just trying to brush it under the rug. How appallable is it that NO ONE turned up at the funeral, and the management took its sweet time even to acknowledge, let alone condemn it. The immediate management had not even offered a word of sympathy or reached out to console the grieving family. It is bewildering to say the least that this is the company people consult to make their business decisions. A company that cannot even deal with the death of one of their own in a dignified manner. It is sad that some of the employees in the organization didn't even know the actual fact behind the death of Anna, as allegedly the matter was just conveyed over a standard company mail that hinted at "prior existing health complications" as the reason for death; when infact Anna died of cardiac arrest that followed after having episodes of chest constriction owing to the overwork at EY. BRING EY PUNE TO JUSTICE. The government has to make an example of this and set precendent to define the right measure of work. In this day an age where every developed country has strict laws that govern work rights it is high time India steps up. It is wasy yo adopt functional frameworks that have proven their merits in other countries. Overtime work = overtime pay. Record working overs with fixed maximum working hour cutoffs. Allow employees to have and join unions and associations that speak for them.
    BRING EY PUNE TO JUSTICE!

Please leave the company if it's bothering your mental health. Just switch off your phone and don't go back to work. If you feel you are stuck because of loan, bonds, bonus then listen. Loan you can pay even after changing the job or jumping to another company.
Joining bones is not a bond. You don't have to return the joining bonus when u leave the company. And even lawyers have agreed to it. There is no such rule. That is just to scare you that u have to return the money but no company will put a case on you if you don't return that money. This is what a lawyer said. There is no law made on it. It's just on papers and even the bond which you sign to serve the company is useless. Even after u sign the bond, you can still leave the company without experience certificate ( use payslip as your experience certificate). No company will go to court to sue you for it, even if they do, that bond is not admissible in the court and you will win. Company will back off. Because according to the court, signature on any plain paper is useless. Only an affidavit or legal stamp paper is valid. So, be free. No more suicides. If you don't like to work in a company, simply leave and take a break. Don't go into depression with all this bonds and bonuses. Nothing matters. It's just to scare you.

This is true, especially in private companies. As per the rules, their private companies are required to comply with office hours which are not followed. According to the rules, there are concessions for employees to be taken in a year whose full quota is almost impossible to use.(holidays for family or personal important work) In meetings of private companies it is said that you have to get used to working under pressure. In private companies, employees often face high pressure due to heavy workloads, tight deadlines, performance expectations, and competition. This pressure is driven by the need for productivity, cost efficiency, and meeting business targets. Long hours, multitasking, and managing multiple projects simultaneously do lead to stress and burnout, affecting both mental and physical health. The demand for quick adaptability and constant availability, especially in sectors like tech, finance, and consulting, further intensifies the workload.
