The intial scene with the giant orb ship and the excentric, religious garnments worn by the guild members, was one of the biggest pulls I've ever experienced in a beginning of a movie.

To this day, one of the craziest moment in my life was wearing Zendaya's stillsuit for costume fitting. She was not in the country, in Hungary at the time of creating her suit so they needed a bodydouble. I happened to be the same size. Wonderful costume & wonderful wonderful designers! It was thrilling to see them working in real time, brainstorming about the beads and all that! ✨ Stumbled upon this video a year later but anyhow, felt like sharing this precious memory. This movie is close to my heart.
This movie was something special. It’s been a long time since I’ve gone wide eyed at the scope and imagination this film brought. It seems like every department delivered their A game
Tbh I liked the 2018 draft script better. It felt as though there was more of story in it, as well as more character appearances. It was then edited, which became the final 2020 draft - which even then, stuff was cut. And they refused to show those cut scenes 🥲
That shot of her walking during the sandstorm winds with parts of her dress extending away from her body was one of my best shots in the film imo. Just a beautiful painting.
The last time I saw a film of this scale and emotion was Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy. Those still are my favorite movies today, even as a young kid... Those films are just to perfection. And now after waiting many years for another epic, Denis Villeneuve has finally made an adaptation that's done justice... At least for me. Watching this piece of art especially in IMAX gave me callbacks to the LOTR trilogy (in a fantastic way of course). I wish Frank Herbert was alive to see this masterpiece come to life. He would've been proud. I also wish that Stanley Kubrick was alive to do a "director on director" with Denis Villeneuve like Christopher Nolan, Sam Mendes and James Cameron did. That would be epic.
A spectacular, once in a generation film, and the costume designers did a phenomenal job. You can tell just from these short snippets how passionate they are, and how sophisticated the inspiration for all the outfits is. They did an incredible job. I loved seeing all the costumes throughout the film, yet they didn't stick out as weird or trying too hard. They blended seamlessly with the rest of the world building, while simultaneously being a highlight of the film. Great job, everyone involved!
Such an intensely imaginative but gently elegant beauty went into every detail of the costumes and accessories featured in this gorgeous, gorgeous film. This entire world came alive with such distinct cultures, personalities, vibes. Genius costume design!
Very excited to see what they got in store for Part 2. If there's a word to describe this movie, is brilliant, on every level, acting, sound, costumes, cinematography, production design and those beautiful dunes of sand. Also, Jordan was used in many movies but this is the first time you see the beauty of his rocky landscape.
@@valentin7693 me too, it's disappointing a galaxy spreading story with at least 5 different factions, each faction having like 10 unique uniforms and wear, multiplied by hundreds for each character and extra somehow doesn't beat basic fashion dresses for a Disney kids story
The academy loves it's period or period adjacent costumes. The only times it was given to "futuristic" costuming was Mad Max Fury Road and Black Panther from what I gather.
This is what happens when you make a movie with people who love what they're making, she sounds like a fashion designer, she sounds so confident and loving in a way ? She loves her crafts and believes in what she's making, she seems to have no problem making her art cause other bts documentaries the crew is always talking about the movie like its a chore, like okay bro go do something else if it doesn't make you happy, she sounded happy 😊 she sounded content, she sounded proud 💯💯💯🤙🏼 can't wait for Dune 2
I watched this with my husband the other day. He grew up near a Japanese naval base, and his first impression was that the Atreides ceremonial dress looks like something worn by the Imperial Navy
One thing I always find challenging is getting the "lived in" feel. These are great costumes but there is a slight separation between the characters and their costumes. Feels like dolls getting dressed for play time. Its missing the lived in patina. It's very difficult to do. Just being nitpicky. They put a lot of great work into it. After thought: maybe its the uniformity for everything. People that live in the clothing would probably clean the garments differently. Thus have slight changes in the color fade? Maybe the asethetic of the uniformity makes it feel more like theatrics rather than a documentation.
I really liked this movie but it upsets me how little they talked about how the middle east and it's clothing must have influenced the design of these costumes.
Some of these costumes remind me of stuff in the real world mixed together into one along with church and sci-fi vibes mashed up. For instance in one scene, one of the people from the ship arrived on Caladan wears a helmet that looks like a combination of a ps vr headset and a spaceship.
Is anybody able to tell me what happens to the costumes afterwards? I am aware that some costumes are made for one specific movie, one specific scene. Do they repurpose them afterwards, or to they go indefinitely to some sort of storage room?
Love these designs and am a huge fan of the movie. Quite disappointed to see that the culture, from which these designs were clearly derived, was completely ignored in this interview. A hijab is not a mere “hood” and a shemagh is not a “robe.” These designs are outstanding and beautiful, but ignoring their heritage is robbery.

It is not a hijab it is indeed a hood and what the fremen were wearing isn't a chemagh it is robes that north African tribes wear in desert I know many people think fremen maybe the whole book is inspired by arabs but it is actually inspired by north Africans specifically algerians so there is no chemagh.
@@rayaan6951 There is no “deep down” Dune is obviously heavily inspired by MENA countries. Hijab is dictated by more than you covering your awrah, you have to, you know, be Muslim.
It's always a bit of a shame, how intricate the costumes are in closeups and we see rarely the full impression of it. E.g. I didn't notice this little embellishments on the Fremen suits at all. I remember, Lena Headey gushing over the intricateness of her costumes in GoT and how it's impossible to convey the full details to the viewer.
She’s saying the costumes were made in Hungary by a guy called Gergey (not sure if that’s how u spell it). She’s saying he did the actual production of them basically.
As beautiful as the costumes are, and as cool as some of the explanations are, one issue I had was that many of the costumes seemed similar despite varied influences. Everyone was wearing relatively dark colors with some combination of austere clothing/uniform, armor, or flowy pieces despite varied cultural influences/backgrounds. I remember with the lord of the rings films how I could tell exactly what culture/side someone was on from their costume, and I found I couldn't do that here with the clothing or armor.
Hey Warner Bros. If there’s even seconds of Amber Heard in Aquaman 2, we won’t be watching it in the cinema. It isn’t fair you remove Johnny even without proper evidence and even after the Verdict Amber gets to keep hers? We will be doing a Johnny Depp Marathon instead when Aquaman 2 comes out.
These costume designs were one of the most memorable parts of the movie. I particularly remember being blown away by the Space guild uniforms.
