About The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring:
In the first part of J.R.R. Tolkien's epic masterpiece, The Lord of the Rings, a shy young hobbit named Frodo Baggins inherits a simple gold ring. He knows the ring has power, but not that he alone holds the secret to the survival--or enslavement--of the entire world. Now Frodo, accompanied by a wizard, an elf, a dwarf, two men and three loyal hobbit friends, must become the greatest hero the world has ever known to save the land and the people he loves.

Literally the gold standard of movie production. There’s nothing like The Lord of the Rings trilogy to this day.
I agree woman
@@michaelhawkins7389 "woman"?
@@danielbagby4149 well she isn't a man is she lol
@@michaelhawkins7389 just a strange addition to the comment lol
@@danielbagby4149 lol Life is too short
It feels like WB just uploaded this to troll Amazon... "see, THIS is how you do it!" .... absolutely brilliant :)
Yea lol.
agreed
Was looking for a comment like this, I thought exactly the same 😆
came here for this comment
Agreed
Dear Warner Bros, please do not hesitate to put more of these "making of" content. This NEVER gets bored
in the special extended trilogie are over 15 houres making of and other bonus material, its absolute worth it.
*boring
Im still wqtching them
Yas please!!!!!! Trolll them!!!!!!!!!!
Hear hear!
These movies are the reason why I got interested in costume design. I remember teenage me seeing behind the scenes footage like this and just having my mind blown at how much detail could go into a piece of clothing.
These along with the 2001 planet of the apes behind the scenes, to do with the prosthetics, certainly affected my life
I will never get tired of the appendices.
I wish they upgraded them to blu ray for the 4k editions
Same here. I've watched them even more times than the films.
Ditto
except an appendicitis.
Ngila Dickson is a genius. All of these costumes blow my mind with the design, intent and detail, and the sheer number of them is insane. I feel like costumes are generally under rated in films, they really are such an important aspect
They look like real world artefacts from a history untold. Her and the teams work is unrivalled and will be for many years to come.
I cant please I c c canttt inagine how she reacts on RoP costumes. It might be interesting if she invited to give comments on RoP sets
You can feel the passion and the RESPECT for Tolkien's work as she speaks.
Right?
Funny how when everything isn't drowned in virtue signaling all the time, there's room for effort, talent and quality.
Yes. RESPECT!!!!!! Please please someone!!! Dareka tasketeeeeeehhh!!!
somehow I felt like she’s crying with cringe if she saw RoP costumes
you know the movies are gold when people watch the behind the scenes multiple times
I love how realistic Lord of the Rings was.. the cgi looked just right, very tasteful, done tastefully.. the music was great, the acting.. all of it just a treasure that cannot be upstaged or replaced..
LOL you know nothing
@@derrickstorm6976 All of my statements are widely held beliefs by most Tolkien movie fans. So, what do you mean 'you know nothing' ?
Its a lot of CGI actually but very well thought out and used, so it keeps you immersed in the story and you don't question things too much.
Everything about LOTR was/is fantastic. The soundtrack is a classic in its own right now.
One of the reasons the Lord of The Rings trilogy holds up 20 years later is the huge effort that went into the costumes and armour. It makes the whole thing feel grounded and realistic, even in a fantasy setting.
This lady’s work is absolutely amazing. I love how she explains her intents and her open mind in the collaboration with the main characters. It‘s all so well thought through. What a pleasure to listen to her! Still in love with the production design-unbeaten!
I remember seeing the costumes from Return of the King at San Diego Comic Con many years ago. The details, the beadwork, the embroidery, everything was beyond words. The films were brilliant, but the costumes helped make them legendary.
And even if you don't see it on screen properly, I think it helped the actors immerse themselves into the world so much more.
This will forever be the best trilogy of all times💛
Imagine making 19,000 costumes. I can’t even fathom the work. Just thinking about it makes me feel nauseated, lol. Amazing job to her and the whole team.
People don't realize just how much work that the costume designers have to do to bring a movie to life. Much respects.
So proud of all of the New Zealanders involved in this! The costume design is pure beauty. The respect the costume designer has for the books, Tolkien, the characters, the director & actors shows love, passion for her job is so deep... you know it's going to be special.
Unlike the current production.
If movies today could be 20% of what Lord of the Rings is, they would be worth watching.
Somehow Amazon made it look worse even though they had 100 times the budget
@@RizztrainingOrder diversity destroys everything
@@RizztrainingOrder Well that budget definitely did not go into costume design. The amazon costumes look like bad halloween costumes, not like stuff people woud actually wear.
@@timokohler6631 The issue I have with the amazon costumes that they look to flat, slightly plastic like and not worn enough
Shout out to Xena Warrior Princess . Ngila was the costume designer for Xena before getting snatched by LOTR.
More story in Aragons costume than the entire rings of power season
Agree
Thank you Peter Jackson, Barrie Osborne, Nigila Dickson and Richard Taylor and the entire department from concept to costume to make this as believeable as possible because it was great!!!
I love how Saruman's clothes are not bright white but palish white, showing how he had fallen in darkness.
Thank you for having done something with so much love for Tolkien's work.
You can tell it was done out of love, hoping that Tolkien's readers would walk away with a smile on their face.
Thank you for not being like Amazon is.
you haven't even seen amazon's take on it yet 😂
@@oremstale8558 we have though. In the trailers. Not just costumes, but the worlds, and the narratives.
@@oremstale8558 You are right, because we haven't been constantly bombarded with snippets, trailers and interviews. No sir, no one has seen a thing.
Several years ago, my family gifted me a gray wool fellowship hobbit cloak from the same company that made the NZ gray wool fellowship cloaks for the movie (Stansborough), and I have cherished and worn it during the winter on several occasions while teleworking or just hanging around the house. It kept me warm and stayed on my shoulders (whereas my blanket didn’t lol). I’ve been a huge fan of the LOTR and Hobbit books and movies for decades, so that cloak became one of my most beloved possessions. I have a few other LOTR items I had bought over the years, like the silver chain that Frodo wore on his neck, and the ring itself (with elven lettering that glows bright gold), that I also cherish very much too. I do have a bit of a collectors obsession when it comes to buying replicas and props from my most favorite book/movie series and shows…🥴❤️
The passion of these people for the lord of the rings is incredible and it makes me happy to see that. It would have been a magical place at that time to work together as a team for this iconic masterpiece.
I firmly believe that there exist certain things that have reached their final form and if you try to change or remake it, it gets worse. This trilogy is one of those things.
Feel like The Dark Knight Trilogy might be another.
The costumes of Lord of the Rings are just indescribably beautiful they are on a league of their own 😍
There was more thought and attention to detail put into the costumes alone in LotR than is now usually put into entire movies.
These 3 movies are lightning in a bottle. Amazing.
I've almost certainly watched the Appendices more times than the actual movies, and that's.... that's a lot. They inspired and still inspire me to be a prop and costume maker and professional crew member. These films were something special.
Back in the day, I would finish watching one of the movies and then go straight into the appendices without hardly a breather :-)
I love every time the team says they were using *English* elements, as it should be!!!
The amount of detail and love poured into just the costumes is incredible. Most of this the casual viewer will never notice, but just being there made the world of Middle Earth seem all the more real.
dedication to original source material, dedication to every detail to make it feel real, and utmost commitment from each artist/actor/director is what made this movie trilogy one-of-a-kind phenomenon.
A masterpeice film. Nothing will ever beat this..and still brilliant after 20 years.
Still are, and may always be, the greatest films ever made.
This trilogy, cliché as it may sound for others, but it really changed my life...
Join the club😊
"YOU, SHALL NOT, PASS!!!!" (staff slams ground). Honestly one of the best scenes in 21st century cinema history.
And I would say one of the greatest memes to ever exist.
Meanwhile in ROP, they just printed the armor scale on the shirts. Lol
just one of those costumes had far more heart and thought put into their design then all the costumes from Rings of Power combined
The costumes for the film trilogy were 100 times better than those for the Amazon show. The details actually seem like they belong rather than just existing, and it just feels more like middle earth.
absolutely brilliant designs. I so appreciate the care that was taken to bring these beloved characters to life.
One of the most iconic and influential film trilogies on the planet. I was six years old when I saw the first movie. Tolkien would’ve been proud of this franchise.
How to troll 101 🤣🤣🤣
But yes, they nail it, i love to see the BTS as much as the movies
A lot of craft went into those movies
releasing this vid around the time of RoP trailer, the shaaade
this is what LOTR attires/costumes should be and always be, this is LOTR. This is what made LOTR "The LOTR"... unlike the Amazon Prime's Rings of Power costumes 🙄 everything doesn't feel like LOTR...
You mean to tell me that leaf gold is NOT the pinnacle of elven craftmanship?!?!
@@timokohler6631 ew gold
@@timokohler6631 thats actually interesting... See Amazon's ROP managed to make gold looks cheap... While this LOTR Trilogy has successfully managed to make Embroidery and layers of clothes looks elegant as well as etherial
you cannot but just be in awe of these magnificent creations. many wizard hats off to Ngilla and her team.
Can you guys 'have a word' with Amazon please.
The care and consideration into all the details and elements is what helped transport me as a child into this new and exciting world, amazing standards, would be surprised if we ever experience such a trilogy in our life times
Better than what Amazon gave us
That is a very, very low bar
the best film trilogy for me is LOTR! watched it more than a dozen times, continuously and I never get tired!
Now we are seen Amazon cheap version of this gorgeous movies
Its not a cheap version of the movies, it another story entirely
@@ahsokatano9070 I know... But you missed the point
@@ahsokatano9070 yeahh, their story with a Tolkien label slapped on it so people watch them
My lord this just makes the upcoming shows costumes look embarrassing…. Unbelievable that they were able to make costumes this beautiful and intricate two decades ago and with 10% of Amazons budget……. Where did Amazons budget go?
@@RizztrainingOrder in advertising, because nobody would recommend this TV series to someone else
this is why its better than amazon fanfic bcs its 100 times less money and 100 more love
I actually kinda want to hear how she would have made Sarumans costume if it was book accurate.
As the text says when Gandalf describes it
"I looked then and saw that his robes, which had seemed white, were not so, but were woven of all colours, and if he moved they shimmered and changed hue so that the eye was bewildered."
It nothing else it would be interesting to see if it was possible to make without making it look ridicules on screen.
That sounded like it could only be made with CGI... so probably not?
@@coreywilliams4198 color shifting threads my guy
Hmm, you could maybe do it with sheer white cloth over iridescent fabric? Or else use a white cloth woven through with iridescent thread? I don't think it would show up through the camera though, which is probably why they didn't go for it in the movie.
@@Tuilelen I was just thinking iridescent threads, possibly satin weave
Although unfortunately you cant see the details of the costumes in the film, perhaps the details of these pieces made the actors FEEL THE PART and enhanced their performance
Best 3 movies ever made. Thank you Peter Jackson, thank you to all these amazing professionnals for your work. You made the childhood of millions, and made the greatest cinematographic work ever created.
Thank you for uploading material from the P. Jackson films. I needed a safe place to come and cleanse my soul after seeing what Amazon is up to.
She knows her stuff and those costumes were amazing
So much harmony on that costumes, taste, history, work... They are all perfect.
Amazon's Rings of Power getting absolutely dunked on right now
The LOTR Trilogy are undefeated!
Epic all around!
I'm so glad I know her name now. Ngila Dickson deserves a world of praise!
She was also the costume designer on Xena: Warrior Princess, Young Hercules, and The Last Samurai, among others.
Ngila REAAAALLLLYY loves her job. The behind the scenes were the second best part of this movie. Amazon takes a billion dollars and threw it all into CGI and no script
Now compare this to the rings of power... yeah... exactly
Loves these behind the scenes stuff, still watch endlessly as a filmmaker to learn from
LOTR costumes: what you see online
ROP costumes: what you actually get
There is only one The LORD OF THE RINGS. This is how the true LOTR adaptation should look like. Ngila Dickson is genius as all creators of these masterpiece are!
Lord of the rings fans be like:
'You haven't aged a day.'
This behind the scenes is equally incredible as the movies
Amazon cannot do this justice.
Indeed...
They could not.
And everyone hates the costumes of the show so far. As they should. They are hideous.
I love these behind the scenes clips. It's so incredible how detailed they were while trying to be faithful to the story even though a lot of these details wouldn't be immediately noticeable on a movie screen.
They are noticeable in the feel. You subconsciously percieve they look right, instead of cheap and fake looking.
Breathtaking costumes and so much collaboration, for the most wonderful movies!
Top notch and it shows!
One little detail won't matter that much but million paves a way and tells a story!
These dresses are amazing.
Please keep these kind of videos coming !! Really love this type of content, WB!
Kudos to Peter Jackson and his entire LoTR cast and crew for these wonderful movies !
I love her and I feel like I owe her so much.
gorgeous work, absolutely stunning. i want more than anything to become a costumer, i love all the life that you can breathe into a story with costumes.
This is amazing! The costumes are gorgeous...I would have loved to try some of them!!😍💙😘
I wish I can wear all the Elvish, Hobbit and Wizards' clothes
Sensational. Utterly brilliant in every way. We were all blessed to have lived to see these films.
Watching WB trolling Amazon is priceless fun :D
I always loved watching the appendices that came with the extended versions. Please release all of them
I just saw it. The costume looking like it sew by hand. Which is reasonable bc of the era. But it just blown me away.
Esto sinceramente fue un trabajo a otro nivel, había amor en este trabajo titánico, gracias por tanta dedicación....cuanto quisiera que en la nueva serie se volviera a repetir
Not a chance, honestly.
What a genius. Now I want to rewatch just to look at the costumes.
Amazing production, outstanding costumes.
Please release these on youtube so we can watch something truthful and faithful to Tolkien. Unlike the garbage Amazon is coming out with, I'd rather watch these amazing people who studied and looked at every work to create the master piece that is the LOTR Jackson trilogy.
@fee foo where a lot of the outcry is coming from is that Peter Jackson said repeatedly he was trying his best to be faithful to Tolkien (I am one of the people who didn't enjoy his adaptation as much, but always loved the behind-the-scenes aspects). On the other hand, the Amazon showrunners admitted outright in the Vanity Fair interview that they _''are writing the story Tolkien never wrote, which reflects modern real-world political issues''_ - they openly stated it's not so much an adaptation, as their own story with Tolkien's name. It's hard to be excited for something when the showrunners are saying things like that, which seem very disrespectful to the original author.
Amazon could never 😭
I see what you're doing WB and i like it ❤️
I don’t know if we’re gonna be getting this level of care and detail for the rings of power.
Understatement of the century 😂
Well...the answer is no.
Peter Jackson's LOTR: Puts hard work, talent, soul and, dare I say, love into a production and produces a *_🎇masterpiece🎇._*
Amazon's 'Rings of Girl-Power': Puts money into a production and produces a production. 💩
Superb design and craftmanship. Respect
iconic to this day
Is Warner putting up LOTR promo content to herald another upcoming home release....?
As a person who took sewing and patterning classes this sound like an absolute Monster of a proyect, specially in the details ... I mean sewing over 40 pairs of pants that are already cut out (tho still tiresome) its easier than wear out / age carefully and precisely fabrics in the same spot, time and time again to make a pair of garments look the same as the other and sufficiently enough so they don't look diferent in camera.
Love all three movies of lord of the rings💗
too bad they didnt put this kind of effort into Amazons LotR
This movie is forever be the original and why I'm so interested in the Middle earth tales...the reasons for me to read the entire tales
Ooh I’m so glad this has been posted! I love the clothes from these films, especially the elven ones. I have always wondered what you’d call what the female elves wear, like it’s not a tunic I dunno what it is
I think they're a kind of bliaut, but I could be wrong.
@@PistachioDean Yours looks the closest I’ve seen!
@@PistachioDean yes, I think the Rivendell elves costumes (both for the women and men) would qualify as a bliaut. The women are wearing theirs over a kirtle (a dress with a structured bodice). While the basic design for these garments is medieval European: they have many modern elements and non-European ones as well. They are really quite brilliantly done, to look both foreign and familiar to pretty much everyone. You can tell this film was made by New Zealanders, because the international audience isn’t an afterthought.
All these people being passionate about making the best movie. And then we have Rings of Prime with "actors" only talking about their activism on modern politics
She did an amazing job on the costumes!! legendary i must say
Would have given anything to be part of that team... what an incredible thing to have worked on!
