The keyboardist from Yes, Rick Wakeman, once stated that the solo from this song was the best solo ever done on the Hammond B3 organ. Hats off to Rod Argent.🙂
At a critical juncture in my life, when I'd failed at something extremely difficult, that I'd dared to accomplish, feeling crushed and beaten, one of the cadre came by and told me to hold my damned head up--this song flashed in my brain and my state of mind changed instantly. The resolve I seized on at that moment sustained me through another round of training and prep and attempting to complete the challenge when earning another opportunity; and, I succeeded. Every time I hear this song those series of events replay and re-inspire. Thank you, Argent.
I had the honor and privilage of being the FOH engineer for them at the Uptown Theater in Kansas City a little over 20 years ago. As I had grown up with their music I knew exactly how the should sound. After the show, their manager asked if I had a passport as he wanted to take me on the road with them back in Europe. Alas, I did not and missed the opportunity, but the memory of that compliment will always be with me.
Rod Argent went to my school (St Albans School, Hertfordshire, England, UK). I never met him (I was a small child when he started), but I started studying vocals and guitars when my voice broke in one swoop in front of the whole school at the age of 12 singing solo as the lead chorister in the Lady Chapel. I ended up winning the School Music Competition with the worst song I could find at the age of 17 (a song Mike Oldfield sang when dead drunk), and at the age of 19, I was the lead guitarist, lead vocalist and songwriter of a metal band called The Uninvited. I quit 5 years ago at the age of 55, but I still enjoy karaoke and playing guitar and singing in local pubs, and i often get free drinks, even though all of them have paid for gigs for local artists. I have even had young girls kiss me for my voice and my guitar. But Rod inspired me. His talent cannot be ignored.
I saw Wakeman and Argent with Ring's band. Wakeman was completely lost. He never heard Jazz, classical and Rock solo together in the same song and couldn't comprehend it. You should have seen the lost look on his face. Fabulous solo. He is the GOAT.
ELP and Deep Purple come to mind. I failed to realized Rods talent, and I loved the songs but ai still did no5 pay attention. she's not there brilliant.
You have to 1) Darken your room 2) Increase the volume 3) Close your eyes 4) Let Rod take you away! Oh, and don't forget to softly chant "Hold - your - head - up" to the rhythm. THEN you'll 'get it'!!☺😉

High praise from Rick.
Interesting note. Of only all posts were informative or entertaining.
Thank you.
The Keith Emerson trick of playing the keyboard while looking at the audience. I loved Argent and this song - a brilliant band!
BUT IT WAS THE ZOMBIES THAT WAS PLAYING THE SONG
This truly takes me to a time and place that I'm sooo knowing it's much missed--

Me too
Me three..❤❤
Yep
They played this at my local nightclub during the early 70's. Fantastic then and still does the trick! Great days!

Rod Argent, Steve Winwood and Booker T - the cream of the crop for Hammond organs. They sound so good.
You forrgot the king of the hammond, John Lord.
I'll call you on that and raise you three M.G.s.
You forgot Ray Manzarek
Rod Argents the man.
aahhh...this hammond-sound....one of the very finest rock-songs ever.....
BRAAAAOMS>>>BRAIIIINS!! Love this song btw.
Argent's encore live double lp one of the best live albums ever made brilliant.
Argent is as skilled as Wakeman and Emerson, but with the humility to let the music be. He is the goat.
Talking Of Rick Wakeman...He Said It Was The Best Organ Solo He's Heard...

This solo everyone knows , it’s like an anthem, all stand for the anthem . And ,,,, hold your head UP!
The best part about a fantastic band that goes down in Prog history.
Yes Genesis Pink Floyd just to name a few
Aaaahhhhh....the influence of JS Bach! Beautiful!
JeSu, JoY interlude
Superb! Thanks for posting.
Seconded
Aw that hurts. It brings me back in time already 50 years ago to a little festival in Geleen, Netherlands. I really liked Rod Argent's music!

Ladies and Gentlemen...The B-3 Master...
Is it a B3 or 4??
Great moment!
I bought my first synth from Rod's shop in Denmark St in London. He is a great guy to chat to.
Its totally like a beautiful Tony Banks Solo
Keyboard player for Genesis 🙏
Can't touch this. ✌️❤️🎵
The Master of the Hammond Organ!
Jimmy Smith, he ain’t, but good.
@@jeromeplamondon5025 the late great John Lord of deep purple was the man!
Saw them as Argent above a pub in Leytonstone. Leslie cabinet for the Hammond. Same bass player. Great and a bit loud.
Jim Rodford?
ELP and Deep Purple come to mind. I failed to realized Rods talent, and I loved the songs but ai still did no5 pay attention. she's not there brilliant.
Splendid rendition while wearing Simon Cowell’s jeans……..😂
You beat me to it.
No, no. Simon Cowell wears Rod Argent's jeans. 🙂
He did many great organ songs with the Zombies-just out of reach--------etc.
I want to hear Lachy Doley do this.
Nice ........... (in more ways than one)
Rick was no slouch on the keyboard himself
sometimes you just gotta get down w/yer bad self
Did Rodford die a year after this from a fall (?).
Yes he did .
Is the bass guitar a Status Graphite?
Who are the original members here?
Sure wish it had the vocals.....
Overwrought performance.
Well that's seven minutes I won't get back. . .
It’s a rock and roll thing we did in the 60s and 70s. You wouldn’t understand it unless you were there. So glad I was. Your loss.
You have to 1) Darken your room 2) Increase the volume 3) Close your eyes 4) Let Rod take you away!

Yea the times of my life! Just as today! Our version of this song was shorter! Way short! Like 45 vintage vinyl! 🤠🎥📼
