62 years old - when i was in high school a bunch of musician kids would jam every saturday night in Lloyd’s basement. Bob Malloy (RIP) played the organ, pushing back his long 1977 hair. The band played Argent. Tears in my eyes.

One of the great underrated classic rock tunes of all time. Perfect guitar and keyboard tones, plus English vocals. Restrained guitar. Gorgeous and heavy hitting at the same time. Proves you don't have to crank a song up to get an emotional response. And that keyboard masterpiece in mid-song is unforgettable. And one of the first 6 minute rock hits on top 40 radio. This was my Mom's ANTHEM! She'd pop a tape into the RCA Mark-8 miniplayer she kept in the kitchen and jam while she prepared dinner for her husband and seven children. We were generally banned from the kitchen during meal prep, but as the middle child I was bestowed the role of "little helper" and her music is forever etched into my DNA. "You listen to this, Donovan! Listen closely. It's not just random words, it has meaning. It goes for anyone, not just women." I like to think she played this for me because, unlike my siblings, I was very shy and withdrawn and she sought to use my love of pop and rock music to bolster my self confidence. For whatever reason, it became the song I most closely relate to my relationship with the greatest Mom a little boy could ask for.

First time I ever heard this song, I was with my brother and a few friends, and I had my car parked on the creek bed with the radio on. Walking around with a brew when it first came on at the very start of it, it touched me in a way and had me hooked. I went right straight and bought it on cassette and finally found it on a cassette with other hits from that era. 😎 Memories man...

Back in the 70s, when I was the keyboardist for several back up bands in NJ. I attempted working out the keys with a worn out record for reference it was truly a masterpiece & Rick Wakeman also said so too. Too bad they only had one top5 hit.

Any classic song can take us back to a time to a place. This takes me back to Hialeah Florida 1972 as I look back at it life was a lot simpler and people genuinely cared for one another.

I remember hearing this song when I was about 8 or 9 years old
My brother had a mixed cassette tape with various music artists
" hold your head up" by argent was the second track on side one
This is such a fantastic classic rock anthem 🙌 👏
Released in late 1971/ early '72

This is timeless perfection. It's like every time I hear it, it's brand new. It's progressive, got a funky groove to it then the keyboards just take over. Just does not get old. Classic masterpiece, arrangement just so with timed breaks all at precise moments. A pick up moment at the right time.

Music is art. As such ... it's sometimes interpreted to mean different things depending upon one's point of view. I think you really had to be there growing up in the summer of "72" to be able to relate. It was a magical time to be coming of age after Woodstock and the hippie generation of the 60's. " Hold your head up , hold your head high " could have been an anthem for the next generation of youngers coming up through. There were good times and bad times but we sure had fun and pushed the boundaries. Happy New Year 2024 everyone.

It's funny, my mom and dad used to listen to the classic rock station 96.k rock in Florida every weekend all weekend and I heard all these great bands and songs but didn't appreciate how good it was till I was in my late 20s.
