Founder: Polish nobleman and official Leonard Marcin Swieykowski.
Historical note:
The palace in palace in Szpikow (Szpykiv, currently in Ukraine) was built (construction completed in 1760) by a Polish nobleman Leonard Swieykowski as a defensive bastion but it was never actually attacked.
Leonard Swieykowski, its founder, had not supported the Bar Confederation so Russian troops steered clear of his property. Shpykiv remained in the hands of the Swieykowski family until the second half of the 19th century when Leon, Leonard's grandson, sold it to Mikolaj Balaszow, who reconstructed the palace after a 1907 fire that damaged some of the rooms.
The palace was destroyed after 1917: three out of four towers were demolished. After the annexation of former Polish Eastern provinces by the Soviet Union, a collective farm (𝘬𝘰𝘭𝘬𝘩𝘰𝘻) administration building was erected within the premises. People settled in the old palace grounds and continue to live there today.
The “PL-UA. History by drone” project consists of 100 short film productions depicting architectural monuments that were created in the period of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The series of short documentary films were screened in Ukraine. A Polish-Ukrainian team consisting of historians, journalists, writers, non-governmental organisations and youth joined forces to create the films. Project was financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland.
