I think the most sickening part is when they're desperate to keep the marriage, not because they're in love with their betrayed husband, but because they want to keep up their appearance, or keep the lifestyle he provided. You deceived him when you married him. You used him, and now you're looking for additional ways to deceive and use? Disgusting. There's no fixing someone like that.

    Mistakes:
    1. You married too quickly and did not know her background and character enough.
    2. A man shouldn't compromise by following a woman.
    3. You lived in your wife's town without having a proper support for yourself.
The positive points are that your inlaws and her friends supported you and didn't cover their cheating daughter.

They'd been glad their daughter was marrying a great guy and quit wasting her time with losers like her ex, and she ended up deceiving them as much as she'd deceived OP. Unlike a lot of stories, no one covered for the cheater. All of her female friends that she'd been with earlier told the truth about there being no get-together at anyone's home after the dinner at the restaurant, and once her parents found out where her car was they knew what she was doing and rushed to confront her. Everyone around her refused to be part of her attempted deception of her husband, and no one sided with her after she was caught and OP headed for the hills.

I never went back or asked for any of my belongings. I slept on the floor of my office on a cheap camping mat until I could afford to buy a futon to sleep on in my office - about two weeks because I needed to buy some clothes to wear first. I wanted nothing to do with my ex or my life with her, so I walked away from everything I'd built except my business. Since then, I've rebuilt and been with my second wife for 23 years of incredible happiness.
I've never regretted my decision or missed any of the things that I left behind. Things can be replaced; however, your life can't be replaced. She made me hate my life so I changed it. I made it my will to do it, and that's how it became my way.

The way Vicky's mom reacted when Anthony called her to let her know that she could not find Vicky coupled with Vicky's father and mother driving by and not stopping when Anthony found the car tells me that the parents had already been through that situation before. I bet my left nut that there was some serious overlap between Vicky's relationship with her ex and Anthony.
What was really REALLY messed up is Vicky's real motive: She literally sought her ex while ovulating so that she could get impregnated by her ex.

It took me a couple years to get over my college girlfriend’s betrayal, so NEVER do a rebound relationship. Fortunately, while I was a bit emotionally immature after college, I was self-aware enough to not get into any entanglements. After dating for fun in the rest of my early 20’s, at around 26, my dating turned into what I like to think of as interviewing for a possible wife. Found one, got married, and over 35 years later, still married. We survived his and downs together, and our children are grown.

Kudos to her parents for not only refusing to condone what she'd done, but actually rushing to the location when her car was found and taking charge of the confrontation at her ex's house. Everything could be avoided if OP had listened to his dad. It's very clear this guy is very emotional person and even though he had moved on he still is very scarred by the cheating even after 6 years.
His big mistake is not only marry too young, but getting in a relationship with a girl who just got out of a long term relationship. He was just a rebound and didn't notice, I'm very sure she talked about her ex when they began meeting each other (it's a big sign of redflag).
Also, he made another big mistake by taking a transfer in his job. He should listened to his dad and ask for resignation and find a new work in his hometown.
And what a downgrade for Vicky, you got to be really stupid to cheat on your husband with a man who had cheated on you in the past and got another girl pregnant. Now she's with a creepy old dude and strained her relationship with her parents.
Moral of this story: if you have a good and loving parents, listen to what they say, specially about life changing choices.

A woman will ALWAYS have a place in her heart for any guy who BREAKS UP WITH HER. She feels like she completely FAILED HIM, not just in the bedroom, but totally. This is why Vicky went back to Ron- she needed his validation so she didn't feel like he thought of her as a complete failure. Vicky, unfortunately, will never be seen by Ron as anything but a 304.
Vicky now has a place in her heart for OP, because he left her. She wanted to retain her "nice guy", and keep her marriage, but OP wasn't having any of it. She KNOWS she failed him. Mr. Find Your Alpha is correct! She now "stalks" him to find out what she's missing out on. She wonders how GOOD his new girlfriend has it, and sees her own life with her divorced, older man as just mediocre- better than being alone.
This is not a new scenario. This happens more often than not. Gals cheat with an old "flame", so they can feel better about themselves. When caught, they cry, plead, beg, and more to keep their current guy around. They seldom admit they cheated because they were emotionally devastated when their ex broke it off... and needed to find a way to get his ATTENTION again. S-word activity is the lowest and most primal form of attention. The ex wouldn't pay for dinner and drinks to have her say "goodbye" afterward. The ex KNOWS she wants his attention, and takes advantage of her. Additionally, her current partner knows the truth, as well; and realizes she will stoop to low levels like this... and won't be able to trust her.

My wife and I got married when she was 18 and I was 20. We had no jobs and she had $300 saved up. My dad and my wife's mom tried to talk us out of it. Our wedding cost a total of $800 in 1981 dollars. We had a pitch-in for the reception. Our honeymoon was driving 40 miles away and spending a weekend in a cheap motel and going out to dinner once.
Like every marriage we had tough times. We lived in a trailer for 6 years and often had to eat beans and rice. We lived frugally for a long time. But 43 years later we are happy together. We have all the money we need to last forever. We have a large paid off home and 5 cars. We worked hard as a couple to make that happen. We have 6 kids and 12 grandkids.
Being young and poor does not mean a marriage will fail. Commitment to working hard and remembering to keep doing things for each other got us through lots of difficult times.

OP is loyal to everyone as much as possible. Unfortunately, his wife was undeserving and destroyed the relationship with his now ex-in laws
    Based dad.
Surprisingly, the in-laws and her friends are actually good people. Girls night is just a dinner to chat and catch up, no craziness. Her not telling any of them where she went tells me that they would disapprove of it and tell OP instantly.
Same with her parents figuring out where she was, barging in, chewing her out, then siding with OP.

No. Let’s be abundantly clear, we’re all adults here after all, “girl’s night” is a euphemism females use to describe a night out that often involves dinners, drinks but most of all, to try to find out if they still have enough sexual marketplace value to attract d-ck “on demand,” all the while getting their attention and validation cups filled by other men.
If you let your woman go out alone with friends and on girls only vacations, you TRULY deserve the situation she is going to unsuspectingly bring you into.

I've been with my "wife" for 19 years, we are not really married and no common law here either. We have two children and she's a SAHM. There's absolutely no reason to get married and it keeps us both working to keep each other. If she were to cheat she'd be out the door on her butt being my house, but if I were (which I won't) my whole family, which I'm close to, would side with her in a heartbeat, so neither of us has anything to gain by stepping out and a lot to loose. Unlike marriage where the state literally incentivies women to divorce.

If you are religious, you may have issues getting a religious ceremony and forgo the legal document. But, marriage doesn't mean the same thing religiously and legally. But a lot of preachers are "By the power vested in me by the state of .... I now pronounce you man and wife". The states let them do that to handle the paperwork, but it would be better if the plug was pulled from preachers.

The OP's dad is trying to pass on his knowledge to his son, but the son, being a young man, knew it all, and thus rejected all the sound, but unwanted, advice. I suppose its just a right of passage, but the advice was placed in the "round file."
As to "D-Day" the OP did the right thing by having her parents and her friend at "Ground Zero" as witnesses to the proceedings. In fact it was her parents who first confronted her, with her friend close behind. There was no misunderstanding as to the proceedings. Excellent move. And he's still in contact with her dad. There's an old saying, "Life's a bitch, and then you marry one." Beware of ladies who had affairs with bad boys, especially long term relationships (5 years in her case) because, although he broke up with her, she never let go of him.
