Thank you so much for your helpful tutorials. Having these steps demonstrated within the metric system is invaluable and saved my sanity; at least with respect to pattern drafting.
I sought your tutorials because Sew Custom said how brilliant you are. I'm so glad I did. Thank you for clear, full instructions. You are inspirational.

Diane deziel, I want to use this medium to really appreciate you. You have been a blessing to me. I have always loved sewing but couldn’t afford a fashion school but ever since I stumped on you channel I have really improved on my pattern cutting and sewing just a little problem with plus size which I get to adjust after first fitting. I just want to say thank you and don’t stop blessing is with your knowledge
hello diane, i glad to found out your chanel, and i love the way you explain the pattern making. nice to meet you diane. hope you always healthy and blessing 🥰
Wonderful! I already master your first bodice tutoral, but I think for those who could not understand it will love this one. This one is great and a lot easier. ❤💙💚💛💜
For my dress form and models I do get a perfect fit, However for people with fuller bust you still need to do some work to customize it. Ms Diane does teach it, I learnt that but still managed to come up with my own techniques using most of her techniques. Which has worked perfectly for me. My fit has become perfect. To get a perfect fit, with anyone's method, you still need some work to customize it. I no longer draft a basic. I have a size 12 bodice and a size 22 bodice. I just grade and then use customization techniques.
Hello Diane,I have made my basic bodice and it came out very good, no need for adjustment because every thing was on point.I am so happy.thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.
Hi Diane, I just found your UA-cam channel. I'm so thankful that I found your channel&I'm already your subscriber. I'm also teaching pattern&sewing in Bali, Indonesia, but I'm not as experience as you. I would like to say thank you for your free PDF about how to make pattern basic block & another pattern course. This is mean so much for me, giving me another reference about pattern. I can't wait to learn more about pattern from you, I hope there will be another video&let me learn more from you. Big regard from Bali, Indonesia&always stay healthy
Thank you for the video, Diane. Looking forward to the front. Can I use this method to draft patterns for the male body? If not, can you post a video on drafting a basic male bodice?
Hello Leonardo, This method is for woman, because of the darts, specially in the front for the bust. For men, I use the same technic as for kid Bodice ua-cam.com/video/Whd7Sysg5lw/v-deo.html Sleeve ua-cam.com/video/5BWZq5eVguo/v-deo.html So much simpler and faster. Diane
After watching many videos, I realize something. Those books and schools shows us how to make pattern with only several real body measurements, the rest was done arbitraryly by some formula. Resulted in standard pattern for mass production. This is really beats the purpose of making your own fitted/tailored clothes. No better than buying a printed pattern which needs many alterations. The solution for tailored outfits is use all the real body measurements and drape it on the body.
You're such a blessing..thank you so much for taking out your time and effort to teach so excellently.. God bless you...my question is this; you mentioned that the 2.8cm you measured out while connecting to the armhole is not constant but can change depending on the size of the person...so please can I have a table of this variation if you don't mind ..and also how do I change the neck shape and depth...gracias!
Thank you Diane for the wonderful videos. I have a problem with the armhole line, the line from B2’ to A3” is leaning inside by 2 inches. I have been facing the same issue every time I drift a bodice. What is your suggestions for this dilemma?
Hi Diane, watching this makes me think of Bunka (Japanese) drafting method. It seems Europe (France/Italy/Spain) and Japan share the same techniques for drafting. It's all very interesting.
Hello Alex, Yes, I have seen a beautiful Japanese pattern book and they do share the same pattern technic. This is the one I learn, here in Canada. Diane
Dear Diane, can you refer the books what you learn for pattern making. Because your methods are so good. I know you are doing including your own methods. Thank you
Hi Diane you are brilliant, thank you😊 Just one question, when we trace the bust and waist measurments on the blocks should we add some ease firts before tracing the bodice blocks or should we use the real measurments without ease?
Hi Diane Thank you for all your tutorials they are wonderful, I have been asked by my grandaughters to make dolls clothes for them i was wondering how I would do blocks for doll size , do i just use their measurements and follow the childrens size or do I have to use 1/4 scale the doll i am sewing for are 46cm tall be most greatful for any advise thank you always.
wonderful! Ok, Three years from your first bodice video, I'm back working a sloper from scratch now... Should I follow the bodice pattern with my high bust and make a full bust adjustment? I have a difference of 3 inches from my high bust to full bust. I remember trying to make the original bodice block and my armhole was squished...EDIT: After reviewing my old measurements, I see my shoulder measurement is marked 2.5 inches longer than it is lol. That probably made the squished armhole
hi Diane. Many thanks for your wonderful tutorials and body block patterns. I have made the bodice and the skirt blocks and I want to make a dress with them, any hints or tips would be great. Thanks
Dear Diane, can you refer the books what you learn for pattern making. Because your methods are so good. I know you are doing including your own methods. Thank you
Hi Diane, Thank you for all your tutorials they are really helpfull. I want ask is there a consideration to take when making a pattern for long bodies as my tall is 182cm
Hi Diane, your basic bodice tutorial is realy helpful . I have one concern on the front shoulder llenth ,is it 5mm shorter than the back bodice shoulder .? Please explain. Thank you
Thank you so much. God bless you real good. Please how do I draft a bodice for a plus size whose front shoulder to waist is longer than the back? Thank you.
Hello Diane, Your tutorials are great, thank you for sharing. Could I apply your method using my own measurements? Thanks in advance for your reply. Kindest, Diana.
hi Diane , thank you for all your videos l want to ask you if this method is fit for a bodice block while using the measurement for a plus size person ??
Thank you: this is an excellent tutorial! My only question is how do you determine the length of the first line drawn? Where do you measure on the body?
Hello Anita, The center back measurement is taken from the base of the neck, under the predominant bone, to the waist. Get my new PDFdianedezie7.wixsite.com/toolfully/free-download Diane
Hi! If I don’t want the shoulder dart can I simply eliminate the 1cm and draw a line straight across?? Also could you make a video on dart manipulation especially closing darts when there’s already two darts like in this bodice?
Hi Diane, I am trying to follow this tutorial but I'm stuck at the B to B2 step, I went back to your measurement taking video and I couldn't find where you took the " across back" measurement. Can you kindly elaborate on that?
Hello Angela, The across the back measurement is took on the body at the 1st 1/4 of the center back, from one armhole to the other. We use 1/2 of that measure. here All the free PDF in my WIX SITE : dianedezie7.wixsite.com/toolfully Direct link; dianedezie7.wixsite.com/toolfully/free-downloadI did a pretty good PDF for the constructions. Monica Notice Thank you for your tutorial, however I tried to follow you instruction using my measurement. The back was fine but the front was off. The waist measurement was a problem when I tried to adjust the waist the shoulder was too wide. I am going to try to create each piece separate. I truly like your tutorials.
Hi, thank you very much for this video, it is very simple to follow. But I can’t understand the dart on the shoulder, I have never had a garment with darts on shoulders...
Hello Laura, It's just a way to present it, also some time it's easier to have it this way to make some modifications, but if you prefer you could pivot the shoulder dart at the waist. You might like to see my pivoting videos, you will see that doesn't matter where are the darts, it's the same fit. bodice ua-cam.com/video/rqEmJb2L_8I/v-deo.html bodice ua-cam.com/video/fbeTqR5GIU0D/v-deo.htmliane
Hello Diane please can you help me choose the right measurements from your measurements chart, I have print it but I’m so confused as my bust is 97cm, waist 90.1, Center back 38 and Center front 33 which I was using it to create the block but I don’t know which size I need to pick form your chart I’m stuck now please reply back. Thank you
I might have done my body measurements inaccurately, but asking from principle; is it possible that the A3'' point ends up on the inside of the A3' point rather than on the outside extension line? As in the shoulder line doesn't extend past the B2 waist measurement and maybe doesn't even reach it. Could this be the case for someone with a body proportion with narrow shoulders and large bust? The armhole ends up looking very different which is why I'm asking if this is even correct/possible.
Hello Diane, please do I add the 4cm ease to my bust measurement before drafting the bodice or is the ease included in the drafting instructions.thank yous.
Hello Julia, hopefully you got my new PDF You start with your actual body measurements, and all the division are done from the actual body measurements. The 4 cm ease at the bust (1 cm per 1/4 body) will be added in the recipe, you don't have to worry about it. Diane
Hey Chris, don't know if you still need help with this but I was a bit lost at first too until I checked out the pdf provided in the video description. The A-C line is the centre back, and according to the PDF it is the measurement taken from 'the base of the neck, under the predominant bone to the waist.' I hope this helps!
Hi I learned from you too much so I want to thank you Iam from Egypt 🇪🇬 love your Channel But I can't find in blog Table of body measurements the full table not just bust and west want center back and shoulder all table
6:51 I have a really big problem here at this step. I have all the steps and measurements exact up to here (since this is my third try), but when I apply the shoulder measurement of #11 my point A3'' ends up between A2' and A3' and not as it is supposed to on the right of A3'. I mean my body measurements are quite large, since I'm plus size and there is not much difference between my bust and waist, but I'm not sure that is causing the problem. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated ❤
Hello Kitty, If you add ease to both shoulder, it will just make the shoulder longer. by adding only to the back, you have to ease it in the front shoulder and it will give you a little extra volume, roundness for the back shoulder blade area, where the body is curving out. Hi Diane, do you have a size chart for adults?
Does this method account for cup sizing?
In 4:05 you said (we're going to place the F across back measurement + 3)
Could you tell me what do you mean by F ?
Thank you
Hello Nora
At 4:05 I place the 1/2 across back measurement + ease.
Sorry It might be my big accent, I'm French.
Diane
Hi Diane would you please kindly tell me why there is a ease on the back shoulder but no ease on front shoulder? Thank you very much
Hello Kitty,
If you add ease to both shoulder, it will just make the shoulder longer. by adding only to the back, you have to ease it in the front shoulder and it will give you a little extra volume, roundness for the back shoulder blade area, where the body is curving out.
Most good quality bodice, jacket and coat have this back shoulder ease.
Diane
Diane Deziel thank you very much
Hi Diane, does ease allowance vary from one body measurement to another or one standard figure applies to all body shapes? Thank u.
Hello Ummu
No the ease doesn't vary according to body measurements, but it could be a little different depending on the fabric used, for example, if your fabric has a little stretch you could put 1/2 the ease.
Also, some people like to wear there garment tight, other like myself prefer looser fit.
Basic ease
bust 4 cm or 1 1/2in.
waist 2 cm or 3/4 in.
hip 4 cm or 1 1/2in.
