Thank you so much for these tutorials. I really appreciate the steady pace. Not rushed and easy to absorb the information. Invaluable.
Thank you so much, we're glad you're enjoying the series!
My dear Izzy this is an amazing drafting series. I have just finished with the bodice draft and looking forward to sewing it. You are the best teacher I have ever met!!! I am blessed to have found minerva channel, you are excellent. I have a small request for a video to be included in the bodice series. Please, show us how to eliminate all the darts of the bodice and end up with a dartless bodice, so that we could use for shirts or blouses with no darts. Thank you so much in advance!!!
Izzy you are amazing, the best tutorial ever. Precise, easy to understand and do. To think this is free! Love from Ghana.
Thank you so much!
Old, retired noob here. Can your excellent instructions in this drafting series be made applicable for a man's shirt. I what to take a shot at drafting and sewing my very own bespoke shirt. My daughter says - "It can't be done Dad - not at your age!" By gum, I'll prove her wrong! 😂
Hey! Maybe you know about this video but check out Cornelius Quiring's video "How to draft a shirt pattern and fix fit issues". His videos are really helpful. Hope this helps!
Thankyou so much. This is the first time I have been able to really follow an explanation of drafting a bodice block. I am looking forward to the upcoming videos, In particular the fitting adjustments. I had a unilateral mastectomy a number of years ago (right side without reconstruction) and have been working on how to eliminate the side bust dart. I’ve had some success but it’s a continuous learning process and now I have the front darts to consider as well😅. Thanks once again.
You're very welcome!
Love this series, thanks Minerva for doing auch a comprehensive free course!
Glad you enjoy it!
Thanks a lot for your tutorial. I made almost every skirts shown previously and I cannot wait to transform them into dresses !
Wonderful!
great tutorial - very easy to follow and and understand
Thanks so much, clear and concise ❤❤ turned out wonderful!
Thank you very much for this episode of pattern drafting, I cannot wait to do my block. Much appreciated.
You are so welcome!
Thank you, excellent tutorial, watching this while on holidays, looking forward to giving this a try on my return.
I can't tell you how thrilled I was when I got the video's notification!!!! I tried tu draft my basic block from a french book, (English is my third language 😊) .... it was drafted from the exact body's measurements, and I was left with no clue how to add ease!!!!!
Can't wait to see your next video. Thank you
Wonderful!
Phew! Just finished drawing up my body block, great instructions from Izzy, thankyou!
Glad you enjoyed the video!
just love it!😍
Well explained...thank you
Thank you! New subbie here. Take care
Thank you! You too!
Fantastic video..I made my block today, it fits pretty good except a little too wide at the upper chest…my question is do you think If made a bigger bust dart it would make Centre front at neck to about 3 “ down a tad smaller??..the rest fits great❤❤❤❤
I’ve bought several books to make bespoke garments. None have made as much sense as your tutorials. I’ve made up the skirt block which fitted perfectly first time. Can’t wait to draft this bodice. You’re really building my confidence. Thank you so much.
Thank you for your lovely feedback!
Made my bodice block today. I would say to anyone following, just trust the process and go with the flow. I didn't understand it per se, I just did it as Izzy said to. Some things looked strange (my back armsyce looks ridiculous compared to what I have seen on paper patterns) but when you sew it up and continue the series everything will fall into place. That is what happened to me when I made the skirt block. So have faith people 😉 Sewing this up as a toile next. x
Thanks Jo 😊
I love hearing your calm voice and detailed instructions. However if I may suggest to label the lines to make it easier for a noob like me to follow? I made some mistakes and find that I had to go through the whole video again to get back to the point/ line that I need to correct it. Thank you.
Thank you for your suggestion!
Hi, thanks so much for another great tutorial 😃 Will you be doing a sleeve tutorial at some point? Many thanks 😊
Keep your eyes peeled! 😉
Great video but please can you explain why you're adding certain amounts to the measurements taken. I assume it's extra for ease and the amounts added are some sort of standard (but can these amounts be altered?).
I got stuck because my shoulder length was 19 cm and the lines ended up crossing over eachother from front and back - do you think I measured that wrong? Please help! :)
Thank you so much for this very detailed instruction, it was so easy to follow even though it’s rocket science to me! Question I ran into though: my cross back (divided by 2 + .5 cm) measurement went out further than the end of my shoulder point, in turn messing up the arm hole measurement + line drawing. Is there anyway I can fix this or did I do something wrong? I checked all my measurements multiple times.
Something similar happened with me! I hope someone can help us with an answer.
Please how did you get your Armscye depth?
Did you adjust the front dart from the neck?
How do you add wearing ease to this block
I really enjoyed watching this. I manage to draft the block fine but wondered where some of the numbers come from in some of the calculations, is there a chart i can follow please just so that i can understand it a bit better.
Thank you Jane. Glad to hear you’re enjoying the tutorials 😊 We don’t have a chart to follow to explain the maths any further for this series. However if you’re really enjoying the drafting techniques, you might find purchasing a few pattern drafting books interesting. There are so many different methods of pattern drafting so it’s worth trying out a few things f them to really start to understand the maths. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be looking at refining the bodice fit and then we look in detail at dart manipulation. This should also start to help us all understand the drafting process and the maths behind it all then. Thanks for following and please do share your progress with us all here at Minerva!
@@MinervaDotCom thank you for letting me know, I’ll watch out for new videos
Apart from the maths side I think the lady doing the videos is really easy to watch and makes it very interesting
Can you shift the darts to the side? I don't want huge darts on my shoulder front.
The initial block has the dart pointing up the shoulder neck point. As the series progresses, we’ll be looking at how to move that dart to multiple locations, including the side 😊
Hi Minerva.
I would like to purchase the drafting mat, how should I go about it?
Hi, the cutting mat that Izzy uses can be found here: www.minerva.com/mp/1136529/sew-easy-rotary-cutting-mat&variant=1116837
Does this block include seam allowance?
Hi Emma, the block does not include seam allowance. In the next video we will show you how to add seam allowances and sew up the block to check the fit.
WHY re you adding 1.5 and 5, etc when plotting your block?? Another quiery. many people have body anomalies. I have several One of which is significant. I would require a full body block, not a half body.
The width of the front neckline is one cm larger than the back neckline, which is absolutely wrong and will lead to an overflow of fabric at the front neckline. It should be the same as the width of the back neckline or 0.5-1cm less
Hi there! We are sorry you find an issue with this specific video - Part 27 and 28 of this series goes into more details on refining the neckline, both front and back and will allow you to achieve a more perfect fit for your garment 😊 We hope this helps
@@MinervaDotCom thank you for reply. But I think, better to not do mistake from the beginning to make alteration after.Your 28 video was for me really helpful because I had a problem,my front neck was loose and front was going back .I understood it was the reason .Only thanks your video I solved this.
