How do you find it while driving the Dusy Ershim trail? Oh wait, you can’t do that trail in this plastic fantastic metrosexual crossover. The original NAS D90 could. There’s no getting around that. You could have bought a Subaru and it would take you just as far off road.
Thanks for sharing this, really helpful as I'm taking mine up there in a few weeks. Only thing I'm worried about are the classic mudflaps I have installed, they have some flex to them but could still be ripped off taking the trim with them. Nice work making it through unscathed.
While I love the Defender and this video is amazing, I see it has Texas plates. Living in the Pacific Northwest with all of the remote unpopulated areas I am afraid of it leaving me stranded where I can't call for help without a satellite phone. I have been watching for any to get up to 200,000 miles, but only a few have gone past 100,000 miles at this point.
Totally respect that. We were hesitant too. Ours has not Left us stranded. It’s got 51k on the odometer but I have a friend with 91k on his. I think they are a bit new (released in 2020) to see them with mileage Over 100k. It will happen, hopefully
When I first started UTV driving with side by sides, this was the first area we went to. It was painful sometimes having to slow and wait for larger vehicles that are meant for the street. These vehicles give you a lot more respect for what side-by-side‘s are capable of though.
absolutely agree. it's unfortunate that our defender will only accept the 20" wheel as the smallest size due to the larger caliper brake option. You can do an 18" with grinding to the calipers which we were not willing to do and you can fit the 19" wheel but there are literally no good tire options at that size.
@@wanderlustoverland I live in Utah and the jagged rocks in the northern mountains is what would concern me most about the tires. I'm sure you'll figure out a solution, if you take it off road often. Looks like Land Rover struck a really nice balance between styling, luxury, and off road capability with these. After watching your video, I jumped on the site to build one. lol
@@beaviccoon470 I appreciate the response and yes that is certainly a possibility. We wanted to keep our warranty in tact. Aftermarket mods, including non-OEM components void warranty on the systems they are associated with, so in that case brake system would be voided. There is always a fine line to walk when choosing what to modify. This is our first Land Rover product, so we are testing the waters so to speak on what we like and don't like. In this case, very happy with how the vehicle did stock and we don't plan on doing anything more technical than this as it's primary purpose is Overlanding.

Nice! ARe you running the stock tire size? We're going to try some trails in Moab on our way back from Central America. I'm running 275/60r20s in a 10 ply, which are just over 33".
It would seem they are, tho. Take a look at the Overland Trips we have taken and you'll see plenty of off-road worthiness in the Defender and our Boreas trailer.
The only thing the defender can’t go past is the dealers hoist , mine has spent 2 months out of 12 there and is still there with turbo problems The worst most unreliable car I’ve ever owned and the lemon fight continues
You can tell Mr Extra Cheeseburger Eater has no real experience off road, and was swayed by marketing when buying the new “pretender” 😂 That trail is child’s play, and the sad reality is you will end up destroying the tiny sidewalls soon enough off road. It doesn’t even need to be on a hard trail. Even simple loose rocky terrain like a regular trail will cut those sidewalls. The fact you didn’t know this before buying this means you didn’t educate yourself beforehand, and somehow wanted to believe the marketing. Pretty sad. You should have bought one of the new ineos Grenadiers. You look under that vehicle in and see what robust build strength and real heavy duty off road looks like. Under the pretender it’s frigging cardboard/fiberglass type fibers 🤣😂!!
The sidewalls are reinforced with kevlar and so that shouldn't be as big of an issue as you have made it. Land Rovers do undergo testing off road and they make off road A/T tires in this size!
@@mononeo thanks for the comment. We were very aware of the OEM AT tires being weak and swapped them for a slightly larger tire size that had a plethora of options. These are the BFG KO2 tires in a 265/60/20 our precious vehicle was a Gladiator that we ran the KM3 on - BFG makes a great tire.
You can already see this is an off-road wannabe, with the almost-stock Defender, scratched up allow wheels and two ridiculous lights on the bonnet. Hideous
A stock Defender is more of an off road vehicle than whatever lifted pickup truck you think rules the road... The Defender is right up there with Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and Ford Bronco Wildtrak for capability right out of the gate. They come with all of the goodies you have to add to more pedestrian vehicles. You can get it with a winch and it comes with 11.6" of ground clearance and 36" of water clearance without modifications. It also has a much better 4x4 system than virtually anything. I get that you may not be the key demo, but you don't need to be crass.
Fins and Things can be pretty scary if you’re new to off-road. Didn’t seem to be a problem for the Defender. Lived in Moab for 18 years and I’ve seen more junk stuck on a Jeep than you can imagine. It’s rare to see a stock anything, even on F&T.

They are still remarkably capable off road…sure not Rubicon with 35’s capable but better than anything without a trail rated badge. Reliability, honestly I’ve given up on anything being reliable. The toyota 3.4 is garbage, the ford and gm 10-speed is garbage, italians don’t make a SINGLE reliable car so good luck jeep/ram. You can’t convince me anything out there is reliable anymore haha.

We had 265's at the time of this video = 32.6" tire BFG KO2 Load Range C. Hope this is helpful
How do you fit the 33’s did you do a lift rod? If so how big? I’m considering a 1” lift hoping it doesn’t affect the ride too much.
