This truck is my truck, and I am the one who did this work, and I am the driver of the Boom Truck, and the one who carried out the rescue operation was me and my truck in the most dangerous places on the shores of Qatar.
If that happened with my 33 year old 200tdi defender I’d take it home and give it a bloody good wash down with fresh water, change all the oils and I’d be good to go.. this on the other hand is probably finshed. Even if they get it going it will never be the same car and will be plagued with electrical problems
Land Rover is a brand loved worldwide. It would be ideal if they add a Deffender variant with the same looks but basic technology, like in the land cruisers of the years 2000 to 2020. People would choose between the reliable, less comfortable varient (especially those who will drive on bumpby terrains and the very comfortable but sophisticated (thus less reliable) line they are now adopting for client who should only drive on ashphalt in areas within reach of specialised service.
So crazy how some people that apparently has lots of money to buy a high end vehicle like this lack some brains to avoid these situations. Surely that is a total loss. Great footage by the way, such a gorgeous beach and waters. I'm impressed with that rescue truck / crane and operator - he was very smooth and careful. Looks like the OLD Land Rovers are the ones to have too.
Got me beat why anyone would drive any vehicle in salt water let alone one that expensive, even if they get that vehicle going again it will be a rust bucket in 12 months, such a waste.
Thanks Sand Man for the great videos. In these situations its the driver's fault, not the car/truck. Dealing with what we call locally "low tide trenches" demands a great deal of experience to figure out the best spot to cross and at what angle.
I cringed at the bit when he said the wheels lock up when there is water ingress. Landrover has completely lost the point. Best thing is retool the old production line and bring the proper defender back.
Things got out of hand when electronic were apply and people had money to buy and not know how to use the vehicle properly Anyways that Defender should be a city commuter and back yard gardening tool
It's not correct. What actually happens is that the transmission, as with any JLR product, can't be shifted into neutral unless the engine is running and free of certain faults. There is an override for towing. Same with the e-brakes. They simply have to be unlocked. There are directions for all of this published by Land Rover.
A bit of free advice for new defender owners....your vehicle was never intended to go off road, it's a mall crawler, meant to stay firmly on tarmac and within towing distance of a dealership.
Once saw a big Lexus 4.7l V8 stuck like that on a Cape Town beach. The tide gave it a salty wash before it could be lifted out with a crane. As an experienced retired career soldier, I often why the younger generation end themselves up in impossible situations. Some don't think ahead, if at all.
I lived there 2000 to 2003, did shed loads of desert trips with Hisham(good friend), one lesson VERY QUICKLY learnt, if you wan to drive in the desert, take and Toyota Land Cruiser or a Nissan Patrol…. Land Rovers( any type) are nowhere near as good, not only how they drive off road, but reliability, we were towing them out EVERY weekend, would never buy one.
Great recovery, love the way you always remain calm and relaxed! I'd love to share a couple of best practices I've learned from being the stuck vehicle back in my drinking days lol. First when stuck vehicle is being pulled don't let them give it gas, just let the idle of the engine spin the tires. If tires spin to fast they are burying themselves right back before they are moving so your just dragging them anyways. If they idle they sit on top of sand much quicker, still slow but not buried. You are by far the expert here not me you know your area not me so you can decide if this idea can hurt your process or help it. Thanks for the great content for me to watch have a great 2024. Keep up the good work. 😊😊
Water enters the gearbox or differential. Brakes lock up! - What a stupid design!!! LC, old Land rovers even Patrols don't have stupid gizmos like that!
A costly mistake for sure. Many comments in here are negative, but sand like that can catch anyone out very easily. Especially if you get bogged just as the tide is coming in around you.
It’s all that’s available on most modern cars, nowhere else to attach recovery equipment… 🙄 Anyway, the wheels on this defender were well buried. Pulling from the body would have torn it away from its wheels. These car components are made of chocolate these days.
Will Need A Big 4×4 Truck With A Winch To Pull Out Slowly. If Not Yanking With Straps Are Only Going To Damage Both Vehicles Along With Damage To Drivetrain On Vehicle Doing Pulling. Bring Out The Shovels, Plywood Boards & Traction Mats. When Driving In Sand, Always Deflate Tires To 15 psi. Always Keep Moving, Never Stop Unless It Solid Sand. Never Drive To Close To Low Tide Area Because If You Get Stuck, High Tide May Come In & You Will Lose Vehicle In The Surf. Have Proper Tow Straps, Shovel, Jack, Boards. Try To Only Go 4 Wheeling With Other Vehicles In Case Of Mishaps. Information From USA, North Carolina Outer Banks Beach Buggy.

@@findknightthesecond4317 1992 to 1998 era saw the best stock offroad capable vehicles ever built in the Toyota 80 Series Land Cruiser and the Nissan Patrol. Land Rover cars at that time didn’t even come close. My 1995 80 is still going strong with 520k km on the clock, and stock from factory came with a PTO driven winch and 3 dash controlled electric differential lockers, something no Land Rover has ever had from the factory.
I've been to Sealine many, many times and seen plenty of Land Cruisers and Patrols get stuck. This particular spot is notorious and generally avoided by sensible people. Those who think that a Land Cruiser or Patrol would not get stuck, aren't familiar with this particular part of Sealine.
@@jim-se5xc I'm talking about the old Hilux from the 70's/80's, as used in the Top Gear "experiment".👍😂😂 ANY new vehicle full of all that electronic crap, NO CHANCE!👎👎

This is the second car you pick next to my camp! Next time drop by and say hello. The camp is just the one north to that position. I seem to have appeared in the Dodge Ram video as well on the same spot.
What a shame, eh? Also, my other takeaway is; I like how you respect each other's privacy by blurring out the vehicle's owner. He deserves a little dignity and respect
It's difficult to say, conditions change. We were driving immediately next to the Defender with no problem, but a couple of hours earlier that area was under water. The Wranglers are generally pretty good as they're light and stay on top of the sand.
What happened to all the different terrain modes equipped in the legendary Defender 🤔, don't know how he got stuck there I have been to that beach just like any other beach easy ride
I can't understand why people with no brains and plenty money seem to forget about common sense and not drive your car into wet sand at the beach. Even if the tide was out at the time, just don't . You never know where the soft patches are and especially a 3 ton one.🙏
The new Defender is just a Chelsea Tractor for taking Jane and John to school and for mounting pavements while her indoors kerb the wheels 🙄 Has LR lost the plot? I think so, give me an old Defender any day. Ideal for taking my Beagles to the highlands for some recall training (the recall trading is going slowly by the way😂)

Those are just boingies, buy an old landrover without all the mod cons. There a lot better. You could use the parts from a defender onto an old land rover if you wanted to.
I see lots of new Defenders on Manchester roads , in urban areas, mostly driven aggressively and used to intimidate other road users. Money does not buy a brain. Defenders seems ro be sold as 2 nd vehicles for 150 k £ ramger rocer owners?

You may put it here if you wish.
damn, you did a great job
good job my brother
It appears you need to drive your boom truck permanently and park your defender.
why this stupid move with a badly equipped defender for sand ?
On a positive note, the owner has saved a lot of money on future breakdown repairs.
hahahah
That’s a goodone😂

Just came here to find poor people comment “Land Rover will take you to desert and Toyota will bring you back”
Or, in this case, a Mercedes.
Could have happened for the merc as well😉

Typical gobshite from the “real” Defender fanatics - total bollocks. A great vehicle here obviously marooned by a halfwit driver - end of.
