Portal and especially Portal 2 really are amazing games. I remember almost everything from years ago and played the second one half a year ago with a friend together again and noticed that this game is not just nostalgic good. It's great in general and it will be played time and time again.
I was introduced to Portal through Portal 2. Well, the real Portal anyway. I remember playing P0rtal: Flash a long time ago and thought it was just some random flash puzzle game and didn't think much of it until I saw TV spots for Portal 2 and realized it was something larger. Later on, I saw the beginning of a let's play of Portal 2 up until the core transfer and decided I just had to play it myself to avoid further spoilers and I was not disappointed in the slightest by the result. Unfortunately, being introduced through Portal 2 meant that I didn't get the true experience of the original Portal since I already knew how the game would end, but it did give me a bizarre sense of backwards "nostalgia" when I finally got around to playing the original Portal and seeing those early test chambers in Portal 2 the way they were meant to look. And then to go back and play Portal 2 again and notice all the small details like how, after being tossed into the incinerator, you end up walking out of the very same part of the incinerator GLaDOS tried to lower you into at the end of her tests in Portal 1 and then slowly but surely make your way toward the new testing track. Or how the room that introduces the lazers originally has the energy ball shooter and catcher from the original game before GLaDOS replaces them with the new tech. And this chamber, too, is a repurposed chamber from the original game. I was actually surprised by the number of mechanics didn't return between Portal 1 and 2, though most of these are definitely for the best in my opinion. The developer commentary mode was always my favorite part of these games. I'd always been a huge fan of beta information, but these games took that a step further and walked me through the thought processes of the developers as they made all sorts of design decisions. I can directly attribute these two games as being my primary inspiration for wanting to become a game designer. Portal 1 is expertly crafted to hold no more than the bare minimum needed to keep the player invested while not overwhelming the player or overstaying its welcome while Portal 2 expanded dramatically on the world of Portal 1 and made sure to add new mechanics that fundamentally altered the way you not only play the game, but see character's and environment as well. In my eyes, Portal 1 is the perfect "simple" game while Portal 2 is the perfect sequel. The developers at Valve are geniuses and, while I absolutely want a Portal 3 and I know it would be extremely easy to make, I must say I can applaud Valve for not oversaturating the franchise when they don't have any grand enough ideas to justify another sequel. That makes Portal 3 the perfect imaginary sequel by upholding the value that you shouldn't make a sequel just to justify itself. Instead, it should meaningfully expand on what its predecessor did while also subverting expectations and, instead of just making more of the same, instead making something familiar yet completely different. I ended up writing an entire essay here. It seems I'm prone to doing that. But I hope one day I can become as genius of a game designer as those who worked on the Portal titles.
This game brought me so much joy back in the day. Everything about it, even down to how great the promotional material was with all the aperture science promos. And the level editor oh... THE LEVEL EDITOR

I finished Portal 2 for the first time a month ago, I'm glad you made this video
it makes me so happy to see people talking about the portal series again!
I recently started playing these games for my channel. I'm so amazed by how many fan games have been made, and are currently being made!
I cant wait to catch up on all the mods as well as Portal Revolution, Desolution, Reloaded, and Destroyed Aperture :)
I literally jumped back down the portal / half-life rabbit hole a few days ago. Perfect timing.
Man I loved portal 2 I remember when I finally beat the main story as a kid, and then me and my stepdad did the co-op section. It was great.
I brought portal 1 and 2 about 4 days before this was released and played both of them. For me both these games were amazing and got me interested in puzzle games.
Thanks for doing stuff like this when times are rough Jirard.
I remember getting this game and staying up way too late 3 nights in a row during summer vacation to finish it. It was so good. The gameplay and the story are both phenomenal
One of my favorite games of all time! I constantly come back to portal 2 about once a year! Love it
I loved this game so much when I was little that I beat it over ten times
The portal games had such an eerie mood to them. Also it had many mysteries to them.
I remember loving this game so much when it came out I played it the moment i got home and beat it in 6 hours-8 i think. And then i tried to play it again XD and then playing the multiplayer with a friend. And it's a game i love to replay over and over again.
Very wholesome video. I love seeing people gushing about something they love!
My favorite portal quote "burn life's house down with lemons"
I’ve been waiting for this. Portal 2 is one of my favourite games of all time
My favorite episode of the completionist is back. Thanks jirard.
Another great video, Jirard. Video game comfort food is really the perfect way to explain this game. It's like a great bowl of mac and cheese; great upon consumption, then makes you feel warm and comfy afterward.
Keep up the great work, my friend. I look forward to your videos.
The first one creeped me out so much as a kid lol. Still held my breath around the broken energy ball thing in one of the dilapidated chambers
Wow, I revisited this right around the time you released your review, found it at a local game shop lol
Hey Jirard! Thanks for making that story! Wouldn’t have seen this video otherwise :)
