From the day I started gaming as a kid, all I did is buy pirated games (in my country it cost like 2 dollars)
As I grew up and becam teenager, I started pirating.
When I graduated, I felt that scamming these companies is not fair. I started buying games based on hype.
It took 3 years for me to completly loose faith in the triple A companies.
I gradually started losing the appetite to gaming. I taught it was because i'm getting older. But after watching this, I knew that it had something to do with the feeling of me getting scammed.
Sad world we live. Feels like mental slavery

And that is exactly why I always, ALWAYS, buy games when they're on sale. Never full price. And for the love of god NEVER on cosole. Always PC. Console gaming is a scam through and through, and it's not even better than PC, it's just a little bit more cinematic thanks to the ability to control walking speeds on your characters lol.
The only game I purchased full price, EVER, was the Lego Star Wars the Skywalker Saga, and I'm considering doing it for Elden Ring and Resident Evil 4. Those 3 are the only ones so far who have deserved it from my standpoint.
And then there are games I will NEVER buy. Sims for example; who the fuck spends 500-800 for a game that is not even the best quality. Or the Cities Skylines expansions; same coment, like FRRRRR.

@@davide.schiaffino Accept it or not but the fact is consoles helped many gaming industries to grow with selling their games and improve themselves while it lasted.
Not all people in the world have up to 2-5K $ to build the PC just to run way more consumable games.
Consoles are cheaper and many choose it because it can last up to 6-8 years which PC can't.
Plus they get subscriptions like PS+ and Game Pass to play free games.
And not to mention how graphic cards skyrocketed into ridiculous price in last 5 years because of bitcoin miners and now becoming bigger.
Yeah, i don't think everyone wants a PC that takes half of desk space in 2040 because of graphic cards becoming much bigger each year we going further.
Gaming would be long time dead if consoles didn't exist as seen before PS1 and Dreamcast how games didn't bring anyone's attention than small group of people on this planet.
This is why PC is called as Workstation rather than gaming device.
Has way less sales than consoles and only good for modding.
You can get viruses and be hacked (just look how CDPR was hacked & stole CP77 footages GTA 6 got leaked) but on consoles you never do get a single virus.
Also i loved The Sims 2-3 but Stuff expansions are mediocre (except cars and some clothes).
Rockstar now does that in their GTAO.

The case was not won as far as I can tell. According to The Guardian and Hollywood Reporter, as of August 2023, it was thrown out--although it _had_ been confirmed in December 2022 by another judge that it is Possible to sue a company for a deceptive trailer. The reason this particular case was later thrown out is pretty funny, actually.
_But in an order dated 28 August, Wilson tossed the suit out, agreeing with Universal that the case was a “self-inflicted injury” after Woulfe revealed in an amendment he had rented Yesterday a second time in 2023, this time on Google Play. The plaintiff explained he did so to claim new “misrepresentations on Google”, as De Armas was listed as a cast member in Yesterday in Google searches._ (Sian Cain, The Guardian, Aug 30 2023)

My main take away is that everything would be better if gamers stopped preordering games, unless you are a video game reviewer I really don't see any reason to want the game in day 1, of course this thought becomes a little more complicated if you think in multi-player games.

    A few simple rules:
#1. Never pre-order, wait for reviews.
#2. Never buy something you just found out about without waiting 24hrs to think critically about it.
#3. Don't buy things you can't pay cash for!

I can't argue that CDPR lied to us with Cyberpunk 2077 features and overall state of the game but we as gamers are not blameless we wanted Cyberpunk to be the biggest game of all time with the most content ever after success of The Witcher 3. There was endless list of features that community wanted and expected not only from game trailers alone so after most of them didn't made it into the final product we expressed our disappointed in looking for the smallest things that didn't work. I still remember people talking shit about NPCs walking the streets without any purpose they're there to make city not feel empty after all and they do it just fine. The sad part is that people were so angry that they forget to enjoy the game (if they can of course - PS4 and XB1 version should never be a thing) I sped 360 hours in this single player world without mods and completing the story 3 times. I'm on my 4th playthrough skipping all cutscenes but enjoying combat and walking down streets watching stunning views. It's not perfect by any means but thanks to devs not giving up on the game updates and support it's a lot better than it was at lunch. I hope that incoming Phantom Liberty DLC will be good addition to the game story cause I main storyline was to short for me. So sad that because of terrible decisions made by management huge amount of players never will know how good it is. And to everyone still thinking Cyberpunk is trash just forget about you want it to be and love it for what it is and it's a game with interesting story, beautiful environment design and combat variety.

Many play video games to escape this crappy world, to ignore the crap and let yourself distract from what is not right or not changeable in your current point in life. Games can create a place you feel happy and creates an environment you normally only dream about at nights. Life itself isn't great that's why people since the dawn of time always created something magical or mystical to bring some spice in our lives. Stories, Books, Movies, Drawings, Theater etc. All that is to create something we want but do not have in irl.

Anyways very informative vid. It's more on the general knowledge side of things. Yes, indie game developers have been my go to lately over mindless corporate (mostly western) companies and their childish decisions with the exception of a few of them. Look at rhe Overwatch PVE crap that recently happened. They hyped up the very thing that was supposed to be in Overwatch 2 just to later scrap it and add bits of story crap to it later. Starcraft trailer that came on the Diabolo 1 CD gave me shivers. I played it countless times and could not get enough of it. It made bigger impression on me, than the game it was bundled with. I wanted movies made in that style. I remember the 90's marketing, and all the consoles to choose from. I'm glad I went with Nintendo, mostly because of relative affordability. I had no clue, which system was better. 3DO was advertised like hell, as well as Sega. If I were to go just by the rate of persuasion, I'd think those 2 were the best systems, but hardly anyone had them. Everyone played Nintendo, like I did. We were all trading games with eachohter. It was better to be associated with the NES brand. If I had the money, I would've bought a 3DO, and knowing what I do now, I would've definitely regretted it. So, it's best that I did not.

Hype is the biggest issue with any advertising. Just look at vehicle adverts, you hardly see the vehicle, and the small print, tells you that the model shown may not be available in your area, and the vehicle shown is always top of the range.
I am longer in the tooth and it took me sometime to realise, that you don't need every product aimed at you.
Over the past few years you see so many bad after tastes from AAA studios, but people will pre order them again and again. I find it better to wait a few months and let them iron out most of the issues, and probably a steam sale to purchase the game, like CyberPunk 2077, same with Starfield.

The most common for playing a video game is also about escapism. For example, we as civilians don't like to go to actual wars and suffer in one, but we play as a soldier and shoot guns and die and then respawn. Or owning luxurious cars when you don't actually have the real money to do so. It's all about escaping into your imagination world.

    about cyberpunk 2077,
my take is that, the project was so huge for cd projekt to handle. they ran out of budget, they couldn't complete what they started and failed to fulfill their promise... but as you see today they keep up working on it after selling a few and still working on updating and upgrading it so they turned that broken game into a top game of all time... even when game released, it was so much better than competitors
we all saw that game worths something and it's not a cash grab like many other huge titles despite they couldn't deliver it
so I don't think they tried to bribe us

I still sometimes pirate some indie game but I often pay for them afterwards because those indie studios really need our help.
With the way that gaming is currently heading I'm more exited for a lot of upcoming indie games rather than Triple A games because the indie studios actually want to create good and fun games. That's their goal. The goal of the Triple A studios however is to make as much money as possible, it doesn't matter if the game is good or bad. That's why we're seeing so many half baked games lately

My honest experience with cyberpunk was positive. I had 140 hours of fun with that game. The caveat being that I wasn’t watching the trailers, or expecting anything from the game. I had just bought my new pc at the time and was looking for a game, and cyberpunk launched 2 days later. With my pc being mid-high end it ran well, and was very fun to play. I can however see it from the perspective of someone with a ps4, that had been waiting a decade for that game. It would’ve been a massive disappointment.

Anyway, it's a lot to with with trust more than marketing, if you've played the Witcher 3, you expected Cyberpunk to be at least somewhere close to that level of quality, because of CDPR, not because of the trailers. It's like a brand name, people buy the new iPhones without researching what additional changes they bring over the previous model, because they trust Apple as a brand, not because of some ads.

It was move to the left battalion and press x to fire, move to the right battalion and press x to fire, move to the left battalion and press x to fire, and finally move to the right battalion and press x to fire.

Well, nowerdays the graphics are so good that in-game-trailers have become (or at least should have) the standard. Even in-game cut scenes are no longer pre-rendered video files, but actual gameplay graphics (altho in GTA IV some additional filter were applied to cutscenes). As I don't watch many game trailers, I cannot even say when I saw a really misleading one. I can tell that Watchdogs was a big hyped game which turned out to be boring at the end. But IMO that was not the game trailers fault.

I can't agree with your point of view. One thing is saying "the best cup of coofee in the world" (matter of opinion), "the ultimate driving experience" (again, matter of opinion), but another thing is showing a clip of a movie/game and not being actual footage of the product you're going to pay for, they're actually deceiving and lying to the consumer. In those cases, there should be a MANDATORY warning saying "not actual footage of the final product" or something in the same lines.

I have recently been thinking about marketing a game by referencing a book. For example 'The Invincible' grabbed my attention by saying that its based on a book writen by Stanislaw Lem. But also we have 'Atomic Heart', wich in a lot of ways references 'We' - a book by Yevgeni Zamyatin, but 'Atomic Heart' never used it as a marketing tool. So, does this type of marketing really work? Is this type of games overall succesfull? I would be glad if you would make a video about that

Only thing I disagree with is them talking about cyberpunk 2077. Cdred wanted to delay the game. But fans sent death threats and investors forced the release. You can't be mad at the company when all of this is public record. They wanted to give the people the whole game on the lower systems instead of what they repeatedly said was not ready to ship.
