A quick note on people reporting "Blurries". I myself am not plagued with blurries when using AffinityMask. If you get blurries, I would like you to ask yourself this question: is the tradeoff worth it? As you can see in the video, I can get up to 15 fps more when using AM=116. If this generates a bit of blurries, I think it's worth it. If, of course, you are getting massive blurries, it's not worth it. In preparing this video I made sure that my own experience with AM was good and that I got no discernable blurries. I'm sorry if this isn't the case for yourself.
Holy Crap. This actually gave me 10-15 frames. Went from 35-40 to 55-60. I have an i7 7700K with 8GB GTX1070 and 16 GB DDR4 RAM. Settings are high in P3D, but not max. I also use Orbx Global Base, HD Trees, Global Vector, and Open LC North America. Thanks for the tip!
one thing I did notice, however, is that it takes FOREVER to load the terrain data at the start of a flight. Otherwise all smooth once in the sim.
Settings were left alone. Only thing I changed was the cfg file as you described. Oh well. Not a deal breaker. I will deal with the slow load time to gain 10-15 fps. Almost all the frame skipping and stuttering is gone now. Very cool.
Digital Beaker did you tried it? And did it worked 4 U? I just wondering what I can do with a intelcore i7 970 series and ATI Radeon 6900 4gb memory and 16 work memory.

I think its great how someone like CptVince take a moment of their valuable time to help others with their sims, whether its FSX/P3D or XPL. OMFG. You are a god. This gave me 20 fps or more higher. I play P3DV4 on a laptop so fps is a hard thing to get. Thanks so much, I subbed just for this video!!!

I have a fx8350 and it worked really well for me. I got +10fps and now my sim is playable :D
Affinity Mask should be calculated per the computer it's being used on. Using another users settings can cause the opposite effect.
how to turn on HT? can't find it in BIOS (have a gigabyte mb, and i5)
i5s don't have the capability for HT. Only thing that has 4 cores and HT is the i7s. More information go to ark.intel.com
116 works out to 0111 0100 binary. While this does move the load off of Core 0 and the overall load on the CPU is less (+less tdp and heat), I'm getting some odd graphic artifacts as well as audio dropouts every few seconds. Not using AM at all causes the primary thread to be on Core 0 and distributed load on core 2-7. Also did some testing with 116 and had my first ever CTD. I'm not sure this is the best config for me, and further testing is needed. Appreciate the video though
i5 doesnt have HT only i7
samy_k97 that's not true, i3, i5, i7 have them, only select i3, i5, i7 has them, e.g, i3-4150 has HT. as goes for the same with i5. Google is your friend. Think before posting, because that is false information.
MR., sir thanks so much for this magic line , right now on my sim have 38 fps stabilize and the last location that i flight my sim was a 38 and 34 and 33 fps more innestable , thanks again !!!
I tried this and got amazing results, well done
I added the command but only got an increase of about 2-4fps.Better than nothing.
Strangely when I tried a value of 255 instead of 116 (which I did with FSX after reading an article and using a table for the number of cores and hyperthreading) the fps remained about the same.
BTW the config file is named PREPAR3D.CFG and is found in at users/'your username'/Appdata/Roaming/Lockheed Martin/Prepar3d v4 (substitute your login name for 'your username' and your relevant version number if not using Prepar3d V4.
Also you may need to turn on 'show hidden folders' to find it.
Also the Roaming folder can be found typing %appdata% after clicking the windows start button (bottom left of screen) and then clicking of Roaming which should be displayed. This might work regardless of if you have show hidden folders turned on.

I use AF=116 (HT On) with the same 4790K but also Process Lasso at the same time with P3D running. I think it's even better.
PS: I'm still in version 3.4.

Thank you so much! I gained about 15fps even if my cpu has no HT(i5 4690k), my only problem is that HRC in your other video doesn't support my resolution at 30hz (2560x1080 at 75hz)
What is Affinity Mask? And what does it do or not do. I assume it is reference to how far things are rendered?

thanks for reminding me of this tweak. i run an i5-3750k. using AM14 i gain around 6 fps in the pmdg 737 flytampa eham with AI traffic at 25% and ASnext running 9 cloud layers. So first sight looks promissing. Will report back on stability ;)
Is that an add on airport or default? Also are you using dynamic lighting?

It's a default aircraft i'd expect more fps :-) now lets try it with a pmdg
plus i found anothe tweak or you can say a trick. while p3d is running. open task manager>services>p3d.exe and put the priority to realtime or high.
Don't know if it is, or not... but the final takeoff (115 setting) appeared much smoother. The sense of speed seemed better??

I don't understand how War thunder can look drop dead amazing on my laptop, running completely maxed out settings and getting 60FPS, while P3DV4 on the other hand I have to run at basically the minimum settings to squeeze out 30FPS and have it look like crap. And the only explanation I've gotten so far are snarky, condescending and stupid remarks from people with $3000 full blown gaming rigs... naturally...

I went into your settings link and found out that your overall settings actually went down from your last video even though you have upgraded your graphics card?

What about 8cores/16threads cpu. What AM do you recommend? Right now I'am using 40764 and 65535.

Any idea what a good 8 core entry would be? I have an 8 core (16 thread) 5960x and I've come back again and again in searching google for someone with a good setting. Yet to find one and really want to try this.
How much affinity mask do u recommend me? I have a core 2 quad Q9650 at 3.0 Ghz. I know it's crappy but it runs pmdg at avg 22-24 fps. It runs default planes at 40+ fps.

Infinity mask is not on it you have to make an entry just copy paste the setting he posted, word of caution these settings don't work for everybody.
Can i use ask what made you use AM116? Its a bit of a random number for a quad core cpu.
What CPU are you using when doing these tests?
With default I think it is ok. But with a pmdg for exemple

hey..i'm running on a i7 5820K which is a 6-core processor ... which is the best affinitymask for you? I tried with the affinity mask calculator...but with that setting I got blurry ground textures while i'm flying.

I have a 6-core 6800k and I have tried 1394 and 4092 and 4092 is really bad for frame rates. My cores were spiking up to 90% at times. 1394 was good however, I had shuttering from time to time. Without affinity mask and lowering my settings in P3D v4 I got better frame rates. But I'm still testing to see where I can compromise.

I think you should play around with "FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION" or in different order. 😄Actually better take a look at config file guides. Maybe you have set the level of detail radius in the settings to low? ✌️

Hi, how do you get the FPS to display like that? I'm using Shift+z and the FPS is unreadable half the time.
Check out MSI Afterburner. Watch a tutorial on it. Works great for testing your settings.
I think AffinityMask=n causes blurries if I'm not achieving constant 30fps (locked). Anyone else had this?
You have to set it to a number. N means not applicable.

Try it with PMDG. not so good plus your textures get very blurry on the ground. Instead use process lasso and a 3d app like evga precision xoc. the 2 together worked wonders for me.

You check it in the BIOS. By default it's activated.

I use a ryzen 5 3600 CPU with affinity mask set to 14, not sure if it is the best setting though

God! and you are all happy getting roughly 40 fps in a flight simulator in 2017.
We´ve gone and fallen very low.
