- Shore fishing in Autumn and Winter in Cornwall can be really productive if you can manage to brave the elements. Here I took advantage of a short calm spell in the storms to blow the cobwebs off my shore fishing tackle. The rods were kept busy with a steady stream of fish on the beach. I share my fishing techniques, bait, rigs and presentation and even overcame camera problems. You have to take the rough with the smooth. Haha. I look forward to more shore fishing in the coming days/weeks.

Superb download, everything crystal clear, from the rod tips to the baiting up. This is the kind of fishing I will be doing as my move to the South West is now back on. Nice video thanks John! Really great to see some shore fishing. I totally agree about the bucket or big Tub - I picked that tip up from Fisho a while ago, and never go fishing without a bucket. Handy for cleaning fish that you wish to take home for the table too. Mr Whiting looked like he might have provided a couple of tasty fillets for the pan! I will endeavour to do more from the shore in the coming days/weeks. But its hard to justify using a good weather day on the shore when the boat fishing has been so good. 😊

This gets me going, too. Heading to southern beaches for the holidays. Not a fishing trip but will bring my fly fishing outfit for some easy surf action for whiting, snook, redfish and hopefully pompano. Happy holidays !

That’s the type of fishing I do so it was good to hear that you check your bait at 15 minute intervals, I have left mine for an hour or so thinking if I keep reeling it in I won’t catch anything 😂
You just gauge it by how quick your bait is getting eaten.
Amazing do you ever blank 🤣🤣. Time for a book!!! or start some fishing coarses. Be good to do an overnighter with someone like yourself checking in giving advice and help.

I'm a new subscriber, and i have been through some of your older videos which have been interesting and fun to watch. I used to do alot of Sea Fishing over the years from Beaches and Rocks until my back went, i was using a 12ft beachcaster and the Abu 7000 multiplier reel, which at the time cost me £65 i have seen that reel now for over £100 blimey. A good place that i used to fish was the Menai Straits the bit inbetween Wales and Anglesey, but don't use the weights you normally use, go to the local garage and get loads of old crappy spark plugs as it's rocky water and you use up plenty of rigs, but it's good to fish. Anyway too long a comment now great video and great instructions, looking forward to the next adventure.

Welcome to the channel Barry, prices certainly aren’t what they used to be then mate as £100 is not expensive for a good reel. I have a mate whose set up is worth nearly £1000 and he uses 2. 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️

When the boat fishing is so good here it’s hard to justify it. Also, some of the locals get very unpleasant when I do shore videos because they don’t want anyone knowing where the locations are. 🤷🏻♂️

Some people don't like catching doggies or whiting, I enjoy them especially with whiting being a bait fish for cod.
I usually keep at least one whiting and cut it up for bait, the skin is amazingly tough on them so it can be used without elastic and other fish love them.

Good tip on unclipping and clipping I haven't done that. I fear the clips I have are not robust enough for the pennel rigs I set up. I've caught a lot of whiting where I am and pouting too. The pouting tend to be riddled with worms. Whiting is good eating fish, but like you I've found them to be long and thin. I need to invest in a tripod as it looks like you definitely need one of them to fish off the beach.
Would adore seeing you catch Hake, my favourite fish to eat, for me better than cod. Also, Chessel Beach!!!! Please Jon.

Depends on the venue mate, but 2 hook clipped down rigs or loop rigs would be my choice.

I agree. Try your local pier but make sure the weather and sea conditions are safe.

hey John nice session although it is tings and dog fest only (with the little naughty strap). a few days ago I have had my beach session after a while in Seaford Sussex and the same species was caught but got at least a 46cm whiting. I'm telling you this as the bites really started at nightfall. Which camera light do you use for the standing camera? mine doesn't give enough light for the area which is around the tripod cam. thanks, David

Good to see you on the beach again John but I can understand if I had such a nice boat I also didn't go fishing off the shore so much probably right is a question I never see your top lights at your beach session on your rods do you have a reason for that? I always use it myself in my evening or night session, because you just see the bites better.

That is part of the reason but also, if I fish some shore marks and make a video. Some local fishermen get upset because it shows the location. James is well but he is not old enough to come with me on late night trips like this. Best wishes to you and Corrie and have a wonderful day. 😊

How do you decide which type of hook to use? Size and shape. Also do your choice of rigs mean you are targeting certain species??eg.flatties, bass tope or just cover all the bases.
Good questions Grant, I do cover some of these things in my shore fishing for beginners videos. But I match the hook size to the bait, and the bait to the size of the fishes mouth I'm targeting. 😉
