    Hi JC and Nad. Thank you for this good video. I don't worry about getting old too much and I am 76. I have faith that God will provide whatever it is I need. The idea of getting a nurse to help take care of me in the future is a great Idea. I will keep my eyes pealed for that. I believe that someone will always be there to help. I have actually cancelled my heath insurance from the UK as it is getting too expensive. It was $4300 this year and would be going up to around $5000 or more, so I decided to cancel and start saving more money. There are also many elderly women who could help me at a reasonable price also. My philosophy is to have no fear and no doubt that help will be there when I need it........Sal : )

    Hey JC and Nat, I am still recovering from my tongue cancer surgery last year and the radiation treatment. I was lucky I was insured with Pacific Cross, I had my operation and treatment in Bangkok hospital in Bangkok. It cost me over1.5 million baht up front then Pacific Cross covered me eventually, but I was lucky to have the support of Bee my wife of over 35 years and a great bunch of expat friends to help me thru the mental side of recovery. Great video JC. I have been subscribed for a while, and I live in Thailand at 72, but currently in good shape.
    I do have an age related gf who I know will care for me in my declining years, but my Plan B is going up to Chiang Mai because they have several great assisted living facilities there for around $1,400-1,600/months for everything. In California I had to stay in one for two years, and was paying $6,000 per month. But I feel 100% better being in Thailand.

    • @EscapetoThailand
      @EscapetoThailand  10 місяців тому +1

      $6,000 a month? Yikes that's crazy... Be aware that some of those care facilities are specifically targeted for citizens of specific countries. I think there's a Japanese one and a German one in Chiang Mai if I'm not mistaken. So if you look into it make sure it's one that is staffed by employees who can speak your language.

    I heavily thought about Thailand and other Asian countries since the 1990s when I was in my late 20's as a goal. I was young, single, no kids, great job (civil service) and I saw 25 yrs ahead. What I failed to realize was all the fun I had was at THAT time; I really didn't think about what ife would be like as an old man in a country where I didn't or struggled with the language. COVID woke me up.. no way at 58 I'd live in any 3rd world country as an elderly man of 70-80+. The thing is... as you age you want things SIMPLER... not more complicated. Too many moving variables (coups, visa, regime or policy changes, social attitude changes-'foreigners go home!', etc) too many moving parts when you're losing brain cells by the minute and the clock's ticking.

    • @EscapetoThailand
      @EscapetoThailand  10 місяців тому

      So my question to you then is, if you've already decided that living in a third world country is not an option why are you watching videos about living in a third world country? Just curious.. This is puzzling... 🤔

      @@EscapetoThailand For the same reason I watch programs about people going to space, women quilting or Muy Thai. Doesn't mean I want to participate in DOING those things or living in zero-gravity, but it's alway interesting to see the types of people who push such narratives. Besides life as you shouldn't be puzzled about... is fluid. When you were a young man, Vietnam was a "bad" and "horrible" place worse than most. Now it's better than the Phils, Thailand, and South Korea for many reasons. But in two decades.. will it? People's attitudes/needs/realities change over time. They may not even have a King anymore in two decades in Thailand. You're not the same man you were 15 years ago and you don't think that way now. Phils kind sucks now but once the US puts those bases back in and adding new ones... will it in 25 years? Your reply comment is more puzzling than mine, considering your talking about the future and not present.

      @@EscapetoThailand I looked at a few countries. Last one I considered was Turkey. USD rules there, a lot of English speakers, modern but with history, etc. Then Erdogan messed up the lira. Then the earthquake. Then it didn't want to approve Sweden. Then Turkey sides with HAMAS. My guess is in 10-15 years it will be highly-anti American. That was in less than 5 years so you should see how not only people can have changes but governments, nations and societies as well.

    The thing that worries me most is being unable to carry out basic functions without difficulty due to poor infrasture. When I'm too old to do my runs and gym workouts, ideally I'd take to long walks but the uneven and sometimes totally absent pavements in Thailand would make that a big challenge to someone struggling with mobility, not to mention the danger from feral soi dogs of course. I would probably think about returning to my home country where things are much easier if you're finding it hard to get around. Well done JC for covering some worrying health data. How can you tell if a politician is telling lies? Answer:- they're speaking.

      In many cities now there's actually resident communities. These areas are actually enclosed neighborhoods where the streets are nicely paved and there are no stray dogs. So that would be an option as well.

    Are there any private old age care facilities in Thailand?
    If not, wouldn't it be a great idea to start one?
    Expats in their sixties could get together and start a nice senior-care living facility and have a management structure where as they get older, younger expats take over, rinse and repeat.
    I think I saw a video where an expat is showing a large senior living facility with different levels of care. I think it is a Corp that has multiple facilities in various locations in Thailand.
    Since you and the guy in the pool took on this subject, why was this option not discussed?
    Am I missing something?

    • @EscapetoThailand

      Yes there are senior care facilities in thailand. Most of them are geared towards specific citizens of specific countries and therefore have staff that are fluent in that specific language. Just discovered your channel. I'm only 50 and thinking of Thailand as a place to retire. Getting old alone worries me, no kids unfortunately. My brother, wife & kids live in Bangkok and his wife is from Nakon, isaan. Maybe her village will look after me but I don't want to live up there as I need to live by a surf beach so I'm thinking Andaman coastline. Though i guess when i need serious care ill not be bothered about living by the sea & i could move up there then. I certainly won't be getting medical insurance as I don't think that is 'Health' care. I live my life almost 100% homeopathically so if I had cancer or anything serious I would be running as far away as possible from a doctor and Chemo.

    You seem to be completely unaware of this thing in the United States called Medicaid. Yes, it’s true that Social Security and Medicare may not be sufficient to take care of those who have extreme medical expenses. But if you are impoverished, then Medicaid will care for you. That is completely different than countries like Thailand that provide no support. No social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid.

      Anybody can go to immigration for you. This is how agents work, but anybody can do this for you. The incapacitated person just signs the application and there's a place on the application for the name and information of the person that is applying for them. And photographs can be supplied with the application even though these days it's done electronically at the desk of the immigration officer at which the application is being presented. If you have enough money, then you'll always have options, but I think that some people might not be able to afford additional assistance, so in that case family would be very helpful. Also, I really appreciate the effort you put into making your videos, but promoting vaccine conspiracies isn't very responsible. Of course people are free to believe whatever they want, but I really don't think you should bring that sort of thing into your videos.

    • @EscapetoThailand
      @EscapetoThailand  10 місяців тому +1

      Yes I think if you go back and listen you'll see that I said that the best option is having a family. Maybe you missed that. This was directed towards people that don't have a family and what their options are. And by the way, if somebody is in a familial situation they're probably spending more than that $700 a month just on the support of the family. So in many cases the option of home care would actually be a cheaper option. But might not be a better emotional option.
      Also, I'm confused. What conspiracy are you actually referring to? Have you looked at the data? You probably are intelligent enough to decipher that there's a problem with these vaccines unless there's something preventing the normal process of thinking. That's not a conspiracy that is intelligence and critical thinking. It's a shame people now have been programmed in the west that anything that they don't agree with now has become a "conspiracy theory" . Sad but true. That's why we changed the name to Escape to Thailand for people to have the option to get away from this kind of thinking that now permeates Western cultures and, get ready for it, might be intentionally driven!!!!!! 🤣

      😂truth hurts, maybe you should become more educated rather than attempt shaming language. This medical intervention is now also being withdrawn from scandinavia countries due to risks. Do your homework!

      Having a view point that is different than yours should be a crime? Wow. Vaccinated and unvaccinated people got covid. One worry the unvaccinated don’t have is the possible long term effects on the body from taking a vaccine that was hastily approved without the normal testing and trials. Lie after lie was told to force people to take it and now innocent people like yourself have this worry lingering in the back of their mind. Unable to even consider that you may have made the biggest mistake of your life. It must be a terrible feeling and I empathize with you. Restricting dialogue on the vaccine debate won’t elevate the fear. In fact censorship on the topic of safety of the vaccine robbed you of the ability to make an informed decision .
