Fun fact: Yötön yö (Nightless night) is a Finnish expression for the midnight sun or polar day. If you go far north (or south) enough, the day becomes long enough in the summer that the sun doesn’t set at all. Thus it is night without a night.
And Saga never sees the sun set even once in the entire game.@@adamant-hg6oy
It does but I think in this case it's a clever double meaning and what they really mean by yötön yö is not the midsummer nights devoit of darkness but the dark place devoit of light.

a game that has songs like this that capture the atmosphere so well elevate even further an already great experience...alan wake is my second favorite game of the year second only to the masterpiece that bg3 is. p.s i love that the game shows finnish culture. it really is captivating....i would love to visit finland one day

Finland was one of the last European countries to adopt Christianity rather believing in their own forest gods. When Sweden began to make their Reformation in Finnish region (Finland was part of Sweden circa 1300-1800) there was some bloody rebellions and some missionaries were murdered, for trying to defy original Finnish gods.

Because Cauldron Lake makes fiction into reality I wonder if Ahti was guiding the story with this song?
You'd think in this community in Watery, founded by Finnish immigrants, more than a few people would understand Ahti at least enough to be really creeped out by the lyrics of this song.
So if we're assuming that 100% of Ahti's song is true, then the Dark Prescence is Satan and the Dark Place, by extension, is Hell.... I love Remedy so much as a company.
As a native finnish speaker, strictly speaking, if we take the lyrics to be 100% true, then Ahti is saying the dark presence is specifically NOT a god, a demon, the devil, or a savior (the finnish word he uses here specifically refers to jesus, interestingly), and that they're basically insults and compliments slung by desperate people
I think that the dark place empowers the part of ower imagination and thinking that we cant controll (dont know the english term unconsesios or somerhing like that) thats also the reason why Alan is extremly affected and Someone like Saga who is more in balance with her self can work against the darkness
@@projectmayhem162 Agreed. My interpretation is that the dark place is influenced by emotions, and resonates with darker emotions during the time we the player see it in action. I believe the whole creativity angle is a red herring, and that while creative minds can definitely influence, or be influenced by it easier, it's simply attracted to our emotions and can easily overpower someone who doesn't have a firm grasp on them. I posit that Alan Wake has been making this whole process harder on himself than it needs to be. He's fixated on the need for a horror story with strict rules and outcomes but hasn't realised that all of the games events have been because of his inability to reconcile his own emotions.
Could be wrong but there's too many additional layers of subtext in the story to lead me to believe it's simply about a place that makes horror stories come true and nothing more.
@@jjc101 yeah Mr. Door says it to alan that he restricts himself with his rules. I would even go this far and say that the power in the dark self is not evil on its own but gets corrupted by the downpressd darkfeelings and thoughts of Humans. Also people think that Alan should go upwards but forget the one Song from Old Gods of Asgard where one part is " going down deeper to the Surface" We also see the positiv side of the dark Place with Herald od Darkness. There is creativity in madnes and you need a bit of that to be creativ.
Isnt the dark place just the entities from Control? Its another dimension beyond our comprehension.
