@@moonlitxangel5771I thought Alan wake didn’t get enough in terms of copies sold and revenue but as the years passed it became successful out of blue and that led it being a cult classic which Sam acknowledges and very much appreciated anyways no offence but I pick Alan wake 2 over quantum break since Alan wake has a more lasting experience than quantum break and Sam really wanted to make Alan wake 2 since the beginning but for some reason Microsoft doesn’t allow that and to be honest the story would be a lot different compared to Alan wake two because of sweet baby inc not being involved.
@@cantsuggestareasonablename9101 Considering it was an Xbox timed exclusive (which was a stupid move on Microsoft's part) that came out at the same time as a AAA game, it did fairly well. In terms of why Microsoft wouldn't let them - they owned Remedy at the time and wanted them to diversify. After Remedy broke away from Microsoft it was about fighting them for the rights to Alan Wake.

This is the only reason I watched the VGAs. I’m so happy Poets of the Fall (even if it’s as their alter ego band) are finally getting the recognition they deserve. Such an amazingly talented group of wonderful guys!
I hope this convinces Poets of the Fall to finally start releasing physical copies of their music in America. I've been a fan of their music since high school in the early 2010's, but unfortunately could never get my hands on any of their CDs because they're not sold in the US (not unless you want to pay a hefty import fee, anyway).
@@NickJerrison Thats an insteresting thought about your comment that spark an idea here: if Wake is a transcription of Lake to Remedy's game world, was the writers block Alan had suffering in start of first title about the long time between Fall of Max Payne and it? And i say more: was Payne our real world equivalent of Mr. Scratch? Guess i should write a full report and send it to Espoo... Maybe we can get another mind blowing chapter in the comming years telling a story about this story.
Sam Lake looks like the happiest man on earth in the ending moment. Culmination of hard work, well deserved for him and the studio for crafting a wonderful story and an unexpected rock opera
I saw the Awards without playing the game... I remember saying to myself "wtf"... Now that I am playing it, I cannot stop with listening to this masterpiece!
For a studio that's very much been an underdog in the AAA environment, Remedy really deserved this and everything else they won. Sam lake is wonderful, Remedy is wonderful, Alan Wake 2 is wonderful!
I couldn't agree more. Their games have always had a very special place in my heart (Both because they are so unique in their identities AND because Remedy's studio is literally a bus ride away from my apartment lmao), so I've always been really sad when their games have underperformed financially. I really hope Alan Wake 2 made all the money it could, because not only is it a BRILLIANT game, it really shows what Remedy is capable of, when they are given proper funding and time for a project. Control was such an awesome game, but even that game suffered from budget and time-constraints (It was in development hell for years). I really wish I bump into Sam Lake someday so I can thank him and his team at Remedy for their work on these absolute gems of games. There truly aren't any games like them out there.
@@myfavoritemusic2428I hope they make money too, but the thing is they didn’t make the game physical, most people tend to buy physical copies, so when they took it away, it costed some of their audience to not buy the game and rather wait for it to come on sale. I want them to succeed, but I feel if they want to make more money, release it for physical one day
@@gamerlordthebest I'm not at all sure about the claim that "most people tend to buy physical copies" - digital downloads have been by far the main mode of game distribution for the last ten years. For PC games, I can't remember the last physical, boxed game I bought (and even then, the last one I bought didn't even actually include the game installation on the disk - it was just a redirect to steam for download). I'm not a console gamer, but even on console, most people still download their games rather than buying physical copies (and like the PC games that don't actually contain the game installation on disk, even the console games on physical disk often just end up leading to digital downloads, not off-line physical installations). So I don't think not having a physical option is going to hurt AW2 much, if at all.
Love how you can see the joy on Sami's face throughout this performance. Man's just having the time of his life with this. Obligatory "Sam Lake, you HACK". Also both Matthew Poretta's and David Harewood's singing voice are slapping, holy shit lmao. Poets of the Fall are such bros for doing this too, shoutout to them.
Alan Wake 2, Baldur's Gate 3, Larian, Remedy, they deserved all the love. Along with all the other amazing titles. Even if they didn't win, no one can deny their quality and impact. 2023 was a great year for gaming.
I'm glad BG3 won. It's one of my picks alongside TOTK, Spider-Man 2 and AW2 due to their interesting and awesome plotlines. Gotta say this: Matthew Porretta should have appeared at the end of the video, he learned the choreography just for the event and he dances along at the end - you barely see him dancing here, but you can see that on "people's reaction" videos of this marvelous performance. Other than that, Sam Lake's "Ocean Smile says everything! Well earned awards!

Been a huge fan of theirs since their song on Max Payne 2. Im so happy to see them perform here and hope this opens doors (pun intended) for them to perform more in the US and Canada
I would love this, but unfortunately with them being an independent band, they have said they don't perform much here in the states because the travel money comes out of their own pockets (and not from a record label). This includes their instruments, equipment, merch and other things. So if they travel to a far away place like the states, they have to be sure they will draw in an audience enough to pay the bills for their travels. Hopefully this performance exposed them to more people in the USA, and this makes more folks aware of them, for this to become a reality.
As soon as I saw this song in the game I knew that they'd want to get it performed live! :D I'm glad that Matthew Porretta was on stage too, and he even joined the coreography in the end! x)
absolute best part to me.. has to be that when everyone joins in for the final dance portion, you can hear David and Matthew singing along. Knowing their history in stage productions, they probably memorized the song to help keep the motions in time, but still. I love Harewood, not just for his Mental Health advocacy, and I can not wait until the next time we see Mr. Door.
This is already the best thing ever, but the thing that solidifies this video as the best thing is the absolute joy on Sam Lake’s face. He’s living his dream
I’d never even heard of Poets of the Fall until I played Alan Wake on Backward compatibility (not even when it was released) but when I heard War I was sold. Then I found out the Old Gods of Asgard were the same band. I do have a good ear for music and styles so I recognised the voice and Guitar from Poet and the Muse and Childten of the Elder God being the same as War. So then delved deeper and found this amazing band. Now I’m a big fan but I’m constantly disappointed how they aren’t more recognised because they have some brilliant songs in their repertoire like Lift, Carnival of Rust, No end, No beginning, The Game and possibly the best “not a Bond song but should be” My Dark Disquiet (also featured in Control). And they continue to put out albums and great songs. This made me really happy. Hopefully the Poets get the global recognition they deserve now. I also hope they do this for the BAFTA game awards. 😀

It sold over a million copies its first year and each subsequent year sold a million more for a good few years.
In terms of why Microsoft wouldn't let them - they owned Remedy at the time and wanted them to diversify. After Remedy broke away from Microsoft it was about fighting them for the rights to Alan Wake.
That's not why Alan wake 2 didn't happen
Its because he wouldn't release it unless the story was perfect
it's been a year, and it's still the best thing that ever happened in The Game Awards. i wish something like this would show up at TGA tomorrow
I have news!
So happy both Ikka and Matthew got the stage for this, they both bring so much to the character.
Matthew has really damn good chemistry with David (Mr. Door)
Take one away and the character is lost.
ILkka*
I know it's just one letter, but most people get his name wrong and it's a bit sad. 🥲
Still think Ilkka and Matthew should've been nominated together for best performance
@@SpideyKid2001that’s what I’ve been thinking of for all this time!! Such an unfair option for one person playing a character to be nominated. Ilkka and Matthew were working their best for Alan for a long time period.
Probably it’s just that they’re higher than any award 😄🙏
i'm so proud of poets of the fall 💕
Last time they performed in US was like in 2008, so pretty big for them
@@DuBstep115 They actually performed in Atlanta in 2019 at ProgPower, but that's the only other US show they've ever done besides the small one in 2008, and then this amazing performance tonight
Been a fan of Potf for a decade, this performance really made me smile, good for them!!
I've been on like eight or nine shows of Poets, Marco is a bit out of his voice in this one. Great to see them of TGA though, they totally deserve all attention they get.
Their guitarist was killing it😮
I loved every second of it! 😂
Me to some parts freaks me out lol
Not only my favorite part of the show, but the most effective advertising, too.
Every goty nominee should have the chance to make a presentation like this.
@@TarkinRocher I adore Remedy & Alan Wake in particular, have for a decade, but my computer's graphics card wasn't up to it and money's tight so I was waiting for a sale on PlayStation.
I muted the awards performance and bought the game before the song was over. Needed. To. See. It. (I got to that part of the game last night). 😆❤️
I’m unable to see it without tears of emotion in my eyes
Yo, Zero! It’s great to catch you here. I love your nightcore songs.
This is the only reason I watched the VGAs. I’m so happy Poets of the Fall (even if it’s as their alter ego band) are finally getting the recognition they deserve. Such an amazingly talented group of wonderful guys!
Same. This motivated me to watch the Game Awards. I'm so glad to see PoF and Alan Wake get so much love.
They sound fantastic live as well!

Sam Lake cant even take the smile form his face cuz he's really doing it. The musical not only in game, but also on the stage of TGA
I am so happy to see his smile like this. He really nailed it.
Sam Lake was the true Alan Wake all along, willing his fiction into reality
Sam Lake loves games and especially the gamers. An amazing man
@@NickJerrison Thats an insteresting thought about your comment that spark an idea here: if Wake is a transcription of Lake to Remedy's game world, was the writers block Alan had suffering in start of first title about the long time between Fall of Max Payne and it? And i say more: was Payne our real world equivalent of Mr. Scratch?
Guess i should write a full report and send it to Espoo... Maybe we can get another mind blowing chapter in the comming years telling a story about this story.
Also, I just found out that Sam Lake is 53 years old now.
Wow, that man looks like he's in his 30's!
This was actually perfect. They couldnt have performed this any better. Best moment of the show.
The fanbase spoke it into existence, and it happened! Thank you Alan Wake!

@@geetargato "The award goes to... Alan Wake!"
Larian Studios also isn't one of the 'big' studios. So the fact BG3 and AW2 dominated the awards has to be a wake up call.
Remedy is an aaa studio
The performance goes to next level when Sam Lake enters.
And all three vocalists sing in one voice, it's just the best part.

I'm glad BG3 won. It's one of my picks alongside TOTK, Spider-Man 2 and AW2 due to their interesting and awesome plotlines. Honestly, I love all nominees, save for for Starfield cuz I haven't checked it out yet (some said its story is basically Fallout in space, though I would like to see it myself so I can't judge it yet). The entire performance is great, but there's something truly special about when that final chorus comes in. Everybody steps up to dance, the vocals get filled out with more voices, the smile on Sam Lake's face... it's incredible and I can't stop smiling along with it.
Sam Lake must be having the biggest high of his life right now

@criztiuca yeah, I got their albums on release, but haven't seen them live cause I live in the US lol
