When this vehicle was displayed in the museum, it included parts from the burning car wash and an arch was built above it, to show what calamity it faced during that test.

Growing up in the Windsor area in the late 70s/early 80s, I remember going to Windsor Safari Park and those baboons scared the hell out of me. It wasn't until many many years later that I found out the 'The Omen' was filmed there. James May is a very smart man.
James' whole "primates are scarier than big cats" thing is pretty interesting when you consider that some zoos have chimps on the top of the kill list for escaped animals
as we are but seconds away from monkeys (less so from apes), evolutionary talking, it makes sense that they are dangerous: we humans are the most dangerous of all living creatures…

One of my true favorite Top Gear moments this challenge! And they at the end "had actually managed to set fire to something that's basically made of water!" XD
100%. A lion will bite your neck & it’ll be over in a few minutes but a monkey/chimp will maul you, bite off your hands, blind you, bite your sausage off. They’re not just aggressive they genuinely try to hurt you if you piss them off.

You're all laughing now but back in the late Eighties, Ford (Europe) had the next best thing to this, which was the Ford Econovan XLT Bus. They had been selling a re-badged Mazda van a bit smaller than a Transit as the Econovan, but the XLT Bus version had a raised roof line, a swiveling rear seat and best of all, an electric sun roof of almost a square meter. Of course it had dismal safety (as all vans had back then), dismal ownership costs bc expensive Mazda parts and an engine buried beneath the front seats where it was all but impossible to do any work on it, and also dismal acceleration, being that the turbo-less 2.0L Diesel only put out 54 PS. But it was the best-behaved rear wheel drive vehicle I've ever driven. An absolute blast drifting it around in the snow. And of course an absolute blast to bunk off from school and speed through the city while your drunk mates stood in the sun roof shouting at the townsfolk like so many revolutionaries or what not.
which one is the most unbelievable: -they enter the lion's enclave in that thing -the lions were uh, having fun when the trio were there -the thing catched fire

I've seen this episode so many times and never realized they were saying Woburn at the animal enclosure, I live in Massachusetts and there's a town within a couple miles of me with the same name definitely stolen from the brits when we came over here 🤣🤣🤣 Reason I didn't notice is we pronounce it Woo-burn not Woah-burn.
When I first saw this episode, and learned that they wanted to make a convertible 'minivan' [as we'd say in the U.S.] my first thought was "Oh, you mean like Inspector Gadget's Gadget Van?"
Maybe I'm just being nostalgic but I really prefer these challenges when it looked like they were just really enjoying them selves and laughing and having a good time with their mates. Unlike the much later ones where it was so much more about them shouting at each other and creating fake tension.
My favourite part of this was that a few years later they reviewed a french convertible that had that same stupid solid roof bar instead of a folding one. I guess the French took Top Gear a bit *too* seriously
You know you've watched Top Gear too much and for too long when you notice that a lot of the music dubbing is changed from the original broadcast recording.
Defending James Lions didn't see humans inside the car as separate beings, what they see is a huge creature. So, as long as you don't show any kind of aggression and stay inside the car/safari vehicle, you're pretty much safe. Monkey on the other hand, they may damage your vehicle out of curiosity.
Would you drive a convertible people carrier?
