I massively prefer the early years (pre series 12) of the trio. Less scripted stuff, but that just made it better. If they'd done this segment during the later series or during the Grand Tour, May's would've "accidentally" got lost and driven to Belgium, and Richard's car would've exploded.
Absolutely. Unfortunately the show became more "Americanised" leaning heavily in the scripted entertainment direction. Still entertaining but nothing comes close just to the early series where the Trio's personalities carried the segments and still put the focus on the cars.
yep, even as a kid i remember thinking 'this isn't the same Top Gear' they became a bit too corny and that was even before they all left. Some later seasons felt more like classic Top Gear than others. The very last episode with the OG trio was amazing and reminded me of pre-12 Top Gear.
They tried, as its bad advice. There totally is a point to those cars, and I say that from personal experience in going long distance in saloons, hatchbacks and MPVs, and the MPV was always the most comfy with enough space without having to compromise

Once we had to transport a sofa, which could comfortably sit 2 people, and I was mind blown that it fit in our normal renault scenic (not the grand scenic) without even having to remove the rear seats. We just folded them down. The car has also taken us to different road-trips as well as helped transport a lot of other stuff that I'm sure would't have fit in the normal megane.
Absolutely what Top Gear stood for! These are my go to videos for dinner, when I'm bored or just whenever I wanna watch anything at all! Simple, yet feels entertaining and surprisingly good consumer advice which wasn't the case in the future seasons and the grand tour although they were highly entertaining!

after having a few, i can say the renault scenic is a brilliant car! it has lots of useful storage cubbys and easy to clean plastics, plus one thing i love is the fact you can remove the rear seats to turn it into a mini van!

I love this is just before the Uber/Grab revolution. Gone were the days of just calling taxi by phone. Now just switch on like a few apps and decide which driver or platform offers you the cheapest!
With inflation - that's about £1.39 in today's money which isn't that far off the mark of what we pay at the pump for petrol, bearing in mind these are diesels!
I use a Dacia Duster Laurette as my cab! Easy to clean hard plastics, cheap parts, good MPG, Comfortable (albeit soft) suspension, loads of legroom, abundance of accessories, good sized boot, enough power to pull my fat ass and 4 fully grown passengers, cheap insurance bracket, tyres are affordable (3x sets minimum per year), £35 tax, daily maintenance and servicing is easy to do on the drive. Lots of features.
I personally like the idea of an MPV and wouldn't be concerned with spending a grand more than a normal hatchback. Extra room, a bigger engine size, more suited for families if they don't want to spend a tad more on SUVs or people carriers, especially young ones, and they give you a slightly better driving position than a normal hatch does. I believe Toyota came up with the idea at the start, and it's worked a treat!
My mom has a Grand Scenic we bought new when I was a kid, it is rather comfy and practical, the interior is absolutely bursting with storage compartments and the seating is quite adaptable. The fact that James couldn't get the swords in the boot is nothing short of libel, all he would've had to do is fold down one of the rear seats. That car has seen us through pretty much all our holiday trips and assisted in 5 or 6 moves.
