I was playing drums for DAVID ALLAN COE back in the early 90s, We went into OHIIO STATE PRISON& did a show when JOHNNY PAYCHECK was incarcerated there, it was quite a different show😊It was the first time D.A.C.& J.P. performed the song TAKE THIS JOB AND SHOVE IT together, D.A.C. wrote the song.

The more I read about Merle Haggard, the more evident it was how generous and compassionate he was. He had a loving, supporting and faithful mother as his anchor. His father was just as important in the forming of Merle and his values. Merle got a bit sidetracked as a teenager and young adult, but boy did he ever turn things around. God Bless this man, his songs and his human spirit!

@@brucegwynn8509 he helped Johnny Paycheck out alot. Rented a studio and made him stay there until the album was cut , completely. Not gonna say what Mearle had to do to keep him pinned up in that studio until the album was done. But it worked. Mearle and Johnny were close friends.

The man that looked after Johnny Paycheck was his life long friend George Jones. Donny (Johnny's real name is buried in George Jones plot , George paid for the ground for a few dear friends. George also helped a few friends to pay Johnny's taxes so they could Bury Johnny ..tax bill around 35000 dollars ..RIP BOTH LEGENDS 💚🙏🍀🍀

I often wondered each time I see this what emotions he had inside of him. He had been in an audience such as this one when Johnny Cash came to San Quentin and perform for him and his fellow inmates. We all know what that moment meant to Merle as a man trying to reform himself, that appearance was huge for him. Just an amazing turn of events; I am sure he made an equal impact as Mr. Cash made on him!

When paycheck and him was doing time together, hag got released, paycheck looked at him and said will you remember me or something in that stand point, hag said yes I will I'll see you again only on the outside, well hag got ahold of the governor and he pretty much had him pardoned, now remember paychecks mother was in bad health at this time, so the rest would make hag and paycheck history........ What a damn story to tell...... Both of them remained friends until both passed away........ Sometime folks we all need someone to lean on and help us, we don't wanna ask for help, but sometimes we have no choice......RIP for both... An "outlaw" in music is someone who goes against the grain and rebels to some degree and will not conform(ie: willie, waylon),,,,Merle did do things his way, but I wouldn't call him an "outlaw" in the country realm. We do need more people to step up and away from the current Nashville machine and get back to traditional country, I have not given up hope on that!
