GPLaps is one of the best sim channels around now, because he's doing vintage focused stuff at a high quality level. Also, while it's not exactly sim racing, FailRace often has creative content like races where you try to run out of fuel faster than everyone else and such.
Sim racing UA-cam content does seem difficult to make in a way that is interesting nowadays. Like many internet things, a few people did/do it well and then everyone with a wheel said "hey I could play racing games as a job?" and decided to start and there's a point where we just don't need more. There's only so many GT3 races we can watch in a day.
GT3 itself is a bit of a plague on sim racing too, as it seems like 90% of sim racing content is GT3 related, regardless of which sim it's on. GT racing is what got me into circuit racing back in the GT1 days, but at this point I'm so burned out on GT3 and even GT4 that it just doesn't excite me at all anymore. I'd be way more likely to watch something unique like a V8SC/Jetta TDi multiclass race on iRacing then yet another GT3 sprint or P2/GT3 IMSA style race.
Reviews can be interesting, but most of the stuff is expensive and I really don't need to sit around watching a 20min review for a wheel I can't afford to upgrade to anyways.
Some of the most engaging video game racing stuff is good strategy races in GTS/GT7 where you can make 5x tire wear races and stuff. I know that it's not realistic for tires to burn up in 10mins but I wish more sims would offer freedom of control over these things, as it means you can fit engaging strategy challenges into "snackable" race lengths, both for watching and participating in.
Agreed GP Laps is my favourite non-streaming channel. His historic reanactments are superb.
Womble is great for GT7 Race C strategy and genera streaming
And of course, Erm.
GT3 is dominating simracing because it's the most "e-sports friendly" type of racing, you have boring and predictable cars with electronic assists, reasonable tolerance for contact. As a result, it's where all the competition goes and everything else becomes niche in comparison. It's sad.
100% agree. The GPLaps channel is the only non sim racing hardware review channel I watch. Sim racing needs to stop pushing esports. Backoff on GT3 cars at Monza and Spa. Put the power of creativity back into the hands of the developers rather then auto manufacturers and other entities that are trying to monetize every aspect of sim racing. From Fanatec banners on every track to electric cars. This is just the start. There is no reason electric cars should be in sim racing as we have over 100 years worth of bad ass significant cars yet to be represented in sim racing. It really feels like It’s not what the devs or players want, it’s what the auto manufacturers want.

Personally I watch anything full out aslong it isn't GT7 since it isn't for PC and physics ain't great, watched this video twice on 50% so here's to hoping you'll do more content for AC, ACC, BeamNG.
How much GT7 have you actually played in order to determine that the physics aren't great? I realise that tends to be the opinion of PC sim racers, but having also put a lot of time into Assetto Corsa I find GT7 to be excellent in both physics and more importantly actual racing.
I completely agree. GT7 is a good simcade game, but the physics and handling model just dont hold up to the realism of other simulators that are available on PC.
@@Enoch-Root Going off GT Sport which I assume is similar enough, but physics are okay, they're just very smoothed out and going back feels really weird after playing ACC. But I agree, the racing is pretty good

pretty much my top 3 too. Aligned with AMS1 and eurotruck that sums up 90% of my playing time (except for iracing which I admire but I think paying just for its social network its too much)
Pro tip: play it at full speed and see if you can still follow along. It’s fun and I got it first go. Giving it a second currently

I did do SIM racing for about 15 years but I moved on to different types of games a few years ago. I just met too many toxic hardcore SIM racers. If you don't fit into their box of what to like in a sim then you have to go play NFS or mario kart. And God bless your soul if you make a mistake while racing.
I started in LFS and was in two different teams in LFS. I showed modders how to mod the headlight lighting distance in R Factor and created a few rFactir mods.
I misclicked and chose 2x speed. Felt like I was traveling through space and time at supraluminic speed.
Didn't switched back on 1x at the end. Got next video sounded like sad drunk-ass dad trying to make intimate talk.

For me the problem with sim racing channels recently is they are all a bit similar and the constant clamouring for a new product that's been released.
A year ago, it was the constant marketing how much fanatec was the best thing since sliced bread and how amazing their DD offering was. All the affiliate links blah blah just got boring like being a constant advert. Currently it's Moza and how wonderful they are. It's boring and unimaginative.
I think content wise, ACC is stale, Assetto Corsa is old, same with raceroom and RF2. Iracing will always be my SIM to play, but unless maybe a sim racer channel does a specific race, or league or tutorial I'd rather play it myself.
I think the sim racing channels need some new imagination and content individual, and unique to the channel instead of the same old same old what everyone else is doing.
You're right. If you look at Steamcharts for example, you can see that sim racing keeps growing. The sim racing UA-cam content on the other hand is a bit stale, as you said, so no wonder there's not much growth. There's only so many GROUP B WAS CRAZY, IRACING IS GREEDY or MOZA WHEELS DESTROY FANATEC videos I can watch before I die of boredom.
As another commenter said. the GP Laps channel is unique and original.

Is this to save sim racing or sim racing content creators who play the same games and drive the same cars on the same track in the same pov with pedals cams every video?
If and when sim racing dies it’s because of eSports and the negative effect it has on all aspects of sim racing but mostly content. We were doing just fine before all that garbage.
This is why 99% of the sim racing content I watch is GPLaps and a couple hardware reviewers.

Sim racing is very good and I enjoy it very much .I bought into Thrustmaster ecosystem with a TSXW wheel pro peddles etc. When I started waching UA-cam for simracing content I could watch with my sim kit being used. Now all the content creators are all using sim rigs that the normal person simpley can not afford so I would say (and this is my theory ) that's why pepole are not watching content as much. its to far advaced and we simply cant keep up there for why would you watch some thinng that you cannot connect with . But also as It became more & more popular the price of sim gear has exploded so is that some to thing about as well.

Issue currently and for the past several years is the barrier to entry to be actually any what competitive! If only a basic g920 could be bought new for like 100€ etc it would entice more people into it!
OR once you feel like you need to get a big profile rig with triple monitors, just start karting :)
VR can also be a good solution, you can get an HP Reverb G2 V2 for about $500 and it's one of the best VR headsets for simulators with how clear the resolution is.

I think the main problem is that it is really really expensive to properly get into it. And for a genre of games to stay relevant it needs not just viewers, but also players.

There is only one snag with playing the video at 0.5 speed. The sound quality is shite.
Saving sim racing would start with Kunos making detailed server information / updates on what is happening to the servers.
Downtimes ( from sometimes hours ) without any information is just stupid and not of this era.
