I used to bash Dragon's Fury a lot when I used to think that Pyro was nothing without Airblast. Even if that statement is still partly true, in my recent usage of this weapon (before Zesty made that video) I find airblast rarely necessary anymore. It still can't compete with Soldiers and Demos in a setting where both players are prepared for the engagement (or if you are the one getting surprise-attacked) due to the difference in the effort/aiming needed to deal significant damage, but it excels at basically every other fight. The flaws of this weapon are practically erased when used with the Scorch Shot (besides the bugs), and even less of a problem when you also have a solid high damage dealer even against fire resistant targets (Use the Axtinguisher with these two, if you can't hit your shots at close range it will be a very good final resort). I also have to say that these videos where you've teached combos were very helpful when I first picked the thing. So thanks for "warming me up" to this new fresh way of playing my favorite class from Team Defense Fort 2!
i might be crazy but it sounded like you said it takes more effort and aim to press m2 in a general direction than it does to hit and place pipes/rockets on a pyro that knows how to airblast
I still find you can get some use out of the airblast, even if it isn't as promenade as the degreaser, and more situational Firstly i find it's best use against soldiers with their slower projectile and fire-rate though it can still work with one-off encounters with demos if the demo/soldier is too far away where you can't really combo them (Mid-range+) you can usually catch them off guard and the flat120~ damage can be enough to make them retreat of even flat out kill them Alternatively they can be useful against sentries and a good pester if not anything else so if you wanna use airblast as a dragon's fury pyro, i'd say its best use is in short confrontations or mid-range encounters, wherever you can afford to take a hit or dodge a rocket/pipe, or even simply working with your team and protecting your medic, so go out there and don't forget that this isn't the phlog! -thank you for attending my ted talk
I thought this was important to mention, the stock Flamethrower's damage ramp-up is bugged. At point blank, it takes 1.8+ seconds to reach it's maximum output rather than 0.9s at all other ranges. Your footage at 2:57 showed you doing this, so your numbers may be inaccurate to more realistic gameplay scenarios.
I find the dragons fury is a direct upgrade to any other flamethrowers. This weapon is technically a better version of The Phlog. Of course theres that crippling downside of having a painfully slower airblast but i can't reflect rockets and pipes anyway so... Yeah!
wtf? Didn't even know this was a thing since I've almost never used DF and just considered it a trash weapon, so it's almost like an airblast when you shoot their feet and launch them up? Looks pretty consistent as well which is a huge bonus considering how inconsistent the DF is usually
@@Bloom0029 wow ik right foreign concept. But fr when engi has sentries that auto aim and soldier and demo have splash damage and so does pyro with the scorch shot and you dont need to be super accurate with flamethrowers. A weapon requiring consistent good aim to do well with especially on pyro of all classes is interesting
Oh this is interesting, another fun thing about the dragons fury is that the projectiles are actually airblastable, it's also interesting how it deals 75 damage on buildings making it a good destruction tool if you get ubered or have a good corner that lets you use the rather big hitbox well.
i had been using the dragons fury and scorch shot lately trying to like just get a little stun but i never thought to do this tbh its pushing the mechanics of the weapon to its max basically
Why don't strange dragons furys exist? It's my favorite pyro primary and I would happily take a strange dragons fury being added instead of the seasonal updates.
Unless I am missing something, the information presented in this video is wrong. Initial claim: “You can kill a fully overhealed Demoknight with a shield in 1 second.” Later claim: “You can deal 200 damage in 1.1 seconds.” A true DemoKnight, using the Ali Baba’s Wee Booties or Bootlegger reskin, even if you used the Eyelander’s reduced starting health and had no heads collected, had no overheal, as well as using the Tide Turner for the weakest resistance, you would still have around 210 effective health against flames. This is more damage required than what you claim (and in a longer period of time), and this isn’t even taking into account overheal. So, your claim was completely wrong. It’s more than a second, and the damage presented isn’t enough even in the most ideal circumstances. But if you actually meet up a against a Demoknight that fills all the prerequisites but also has more favourable things going for them, such as max heads on Eyelander, actually being overhealed, and using the Chargin’ Targe for max resistance, you would actually need to do 700 damage instead. 200 damage isn’t even a third of that. I feel that it is safe to say that your claim was really misleading.
Scorch shot is disgusting and I refuse to use it. You are taking a beautiful and fun weapon and turning it into something ugly. Stick to detonator or mannmelter
only thing i disagreed with is how the dragons fury matches up versus scouts and pyros, it certainly melts newer players but scouts that know how to maneuver in the air and pyros that know the timing for airblasting to deny combo hits will give you a hard time
What you're essentially advocating for is called "Aim-Crutching." It's the same thing that Pre-JungleInferno airblast was DESPISED for. Simply aiming at your target's legs the first time around already does the job perfectly well if your aim isn't garbage, & because the Dragon's Fury is essentially a combo weapon on its own for _ITSELF,_ You really needn't waste your secondary on something redundant like a flare gun. Instead, you should just learn to improve your aim, & then opt for the mobility utility of the thermal thruster in order to better ambush enemies &/or get to the frontlines faster.
@@PHONO_tv I did. I watched it before I watched this video. But that doesn't change that Scorch Shot is a weaker & thusly inferior alternative to the thermal thruster 9/10× if you're running Dragon's Fury.
The Dragon's Fury is not hard to use because of the small hitbox, but because the flame particle is misleading and annoying as fuck. If you use a command to more easily see the particles hitbox, you'll see that is 30%.
Protip to anyone playing a projectile class vs the dragons fury. There is a bug where projectiles delete the dragons fury fireball, so if you see someone doing this try to time your shot when the first dragons fury shot would come out to "block" it.
