Parvathy Baul - Meet the Person

Parvathy Baul came to study traditions of theatre fifteen years back and has since made made Kerala her home. Baul music is the song of 'vairagis,' who have embraced the spiritual life treading the path of music. Memorising Baul songs is the equivalent to memorising Upanishads. Parvathy Baul in this interaction touches upon the trance she enters into while performing, her love of Kerala and its food and cooking.

Baul tradition originated and still exists in Bengal and Bangladesh - NOT Kerala. The language of the songs that Parvathy is singing is also Bengali. One wonders how Parvathy is researching on Bauls sitting in Kerala, which is not the native place for both the language and the song tradition!

She is NOT researching Bauls. She is Baul. Studied with Sanatan das Khepa in Bengal. And now Baul tradition exists in Kerala :-)
