  • The 9 mm 1A1 SMG is the Ambassador car of Indian firearms. Just as the Ambassador was based on the Morris Oxford series, the SMG, produced by the Small Arms Factory, Kanpur was the license produced version of the British 9 mm Sterling carbine. The Ambassador ceased production in 2014, the 1A1 continues in limited series production till date. It will eventually be replaced by the Joint Venture Protective Carbine (JVPC) which bagged its first orders this year.

    • @katdady67
      @katdady67 3 роки тому

      a horizontal mag makes it easier to fire accurately in the prone position. the L2A3 was introduced close to the end of WWII when fox holes and trenches were common.

    • @SandeepUnnithan
      @SandeepUnnithan  6 років тому +3

      its obsolete. not always reliable, no mounting for sights, not very accurate. I think India is the world's last major producer and user of this weapon. the JVPC Mark-1 has tried to overcome all these defects. (The Mark-1 coinage is mine because I do believe there is tremendous scope for improvement)

      Army is in the market for 3 weapons-- a new 7x62x51 AR, a 5.56 carbine and a belt-fed LMG. OFB has all three which of course need to pass user trials.

    OFB must produce either a clone of MP5 or form a Joint production with Kalashnikov concern to manufacture Vityaz-Sn in India.
    State Police forces can gain immensely from a modern 9x19mm smg.

    • @Apster

      State Police forces use MP5, X95 & MX4 Berreta and Lol they don’t use Sterling’s anymore got phased out years ago.

    • @sk8899

      @@Apster... The Weapons you've mentioned are imported not manufactured in India which makes them expensive to operate in long term as Spares must be Bought from from Nations when required.

    • @Apster
      @Apster 4 роки тому

      S K Not really because X95 is made in India ( IWI-JV with Punj Loyd) . MP5 gets serviced in India. OFB makes spares etc same with MX4. Amogh and JVPC are not being picked up by Army only by CAPF which is good.
      Blame Army High Ranking Chaps not OFB. In Rifles CAPF use a variety of Indian firearms like Trichy, Ghataak and Excalibur ( all indian made ) so no problems there. Infact there have been no foreign orders for CAPF for rifles since 2014-2015. Only for specialised units who want Sigs etc but regular units use Indian AK Variants ot previously bought Bulgarian ones.

    • @sk8899
      @sk8899 4 роки тому

      @@Apster... Is there any information whether Punj-Lloyd has bagged any orders from any Security force till now??
      Servicing MP5 & Manufacturing it are different things creating certain limitations especially in terms of availability & replacement of weapon.
      Since Indian Military is using B&T MP9 its obvious that JVPC will be compared with it or H&K MP7.
      JVPC doesn't seems to match the same level of Ergonomics like MP9 or MP7 but I hope that IA can ignore this & place orders for JVPC.
      Excalibur again isn't the best Ergonomic system in comparison to the more Modern Military systems such as Car816, H&K416, CZ Bren 2 etc.
      I never understood the reason for a G-3 Type Charging handle in INSAS or Excalibur Rifles.
      In fact if Excalibur was given a AMOGH Carbine like charging handle then it may have be more ergonomically acceptable rifle.
      It really never made any sense why OFB didn't tried to develop a Short Stroke Piston version of Ar-15 such as Car816, H&K416 etc. for Indian Army or Other Security forces.
      OFB can greatly benefit it develops the following systems:-
      (1) RPG-7 with both composite & metallic frame as it suits the ops of CAPFs due to its light weight in comparison to OFB's RCL Mk3.
      (2) RPK to complement OFB's TAR or Ghatak Rifles.
      (3) Indigenous version of UKM-2000 to replace Bren L4
      (4) Modern Pistol like Glock 17 to replace Browning Hi-power
      (5) Clone of MP5 as it will impose less logistical burden due to commonality of 9x19mm Ammunition
      These systems will get a good acceptance at least from CAPFs & State Police forces.

    • @Apster
      @Apster 4 роки тому

      S K S K 1. X95 is inducted. 2. Anyone can manufacture a ToT MP5 not a big deal buddy for small orders no need to have a separate line. 3. JVPC is an excellent platform and it performs better than an MP7. 4. Excalibur is an excellent rifle and you don’t even know the difference between rifles and carbines and having shoot nearly all the weapons you have mentioned I’m sure you are a Quora expert not a firearms enthusiast or have any real experience with them. Blame army for throwing away Excalibur, Amogh and INSAS LMG and the FN MAG based LMG. Also this shows how little you know of OFB. They had developed a 7.62 AR and a 6.8 MM one as well which Army rejected and then changed GSQR to adopt inferior AK203. Now you’re talking about RPK to compliment TAR and Ghaatak lol LMG replacement ? Buddy you’re not making sense all over the place. Bren L4 is barely used it’s mainly only left for some vehicle and fixed positions units. Being replaced by Negev and OFB LMG. Glock 17 is not needed pistols are dumb and most troops do not use Sidearms whether it is in America or India. Amogh IMO is a great choice along with JVPC for Army. CAPF will adopt JVPC alongsid MP5. Now with new rules they will only be allowed to order domestic stuff so good news. Also buddy RPG7 vs Carl
      Gustav ? Lmfao pls go read up man. RPG7 is inferior and has limited munitions and range compared to Gustav you’re asking us to adopt an inferior platform and we produce Gustavs in India and upgrade then as well at home. Plus the Gustav is lighter than an RPG7 just by the way. ( both weight nearly 7 KG but new Gustav variants are lighter ) It is a superior platform.
