This is probably the most fun I’ve had writing and producing a video and it’s one I’ve wanted to make ever since I visited Flushing Meadows Park last year. Because this isn’t the typical video format found on the channel I’m not expecting this video to do well so if you could give it an extra share or two that would be very much appreciated TPM crew!
Hey. I just wanted to give you some advice. As you explained this video most likely won't do so well. But that's the thing. It SHOULD! What I'm really saying is that your top 10's videos and such are great and informative but they've taken over your content. Now if YOU think this is a problem, don't be shy to let your Viewers and Subscribers know that! It's always ok to let your fans know if there's something bothering you! Have an amazing day!🌺
My dad went to the 1964 Worlds Fair when he was a kid. The hotel his family was staying at offered transport to the Fair. A limo pulled up and my dad and the other kids assumed this was the free transportation, and jumped in. It wasn’t. The limo held none other than Walt Disney. He was apparently pretty nice to my dad and the other couple kids that were there.
My favorite ride was definitely It’s A Small World-because I was 4 years old when I ride it in 1965! I truly remember riding it! And I DO remember the Disney Characters roaming the Fair! It is still my favorite ride at Disney World! ❤️ We lived in Port Washington, LI so just took the LIRR right to the Fair. My parents let my 14 year old brother and friends go to the Fair alone lol. Can’t imagine that happening today! Thank you so much for producing this! We have a lot of home movies of the Fair and I love looking at the old footage!
We took the bus into Port Authority from NJ then took the Number 7 subway. I think the fare was $0.15. I remember riding all of these rides, but the Carousel of Progress is the one that I remember most. I still have my Fair Guide book from my visit.
it's a pity that Admiral Ackbar is now swimming with the fishies still with us, because maybe he could finally have shown foolish Disney fanswhat a trap they were falling into if they thought their imagination could last for long in the realm of the Imagineer. It's a trap! Raise the shields!
Holy cannoli, they are making me feel like Michael Corleone here, I'm trying to pull out and be good and they keep pulling me back in. Like I said earlier let's all have a drink, to SW and it's fans -- 100 light years to them... And suddenly some chippie from Bayonne at the SJW is calling me Bill Cosby, it's so fine I go over to the other place to ride mount splashmore I'll get some spaghetti jar jar's joint. Or just the joint.. Ciao
The Carousel of Progress is my favorite. The song makes me teary, and it is one of the few ways I can instantly transport back into my childhood. So much optimism and wonder in it.
Carousel of Progress is definitely my favorite attraction to come out of this fair, as it is in my top favorites of the parks in general. Brings back great memories and packs all that Disney magic we all can't get enough of.
The 1964-65 New York World's Fair was the highlight of my childhood. I remember that the lines for the Ford Magic Skyway and the Carousel of Progress were incredibly long, but the attractions were worth the wait. And, yes, people were stunned by Mr. Lincoln! The A.T.&T. pavilion introduced touch-tone phones for the first time. I was very excited to try those out!
Carousel of Progress is one ride I have to do every time at WDW! It makes me slow down and remember an exciting time in our country’s history. I love feeling connected to Walt himself, when I watch the show.
I grew up in So.California.Born in 54.My grandmother visited from central Illonios in the 60's and talked about how much she loved It's a small world for the rest of her life.
I've been several times, but then, it takes me longer to get from the Magic Kingdom parking lot to the entrance than from my driveway to the parking lot.
It's a small world and the carousel of progress are my favorite rides from the Corona Park 1964_65 worlds fair that came to Walt Disney world I wish I had known Walt Disney
i worked at the Queens Museum for 5 years so The Unisphere and the park's legacy holds a special place in my heart. Although it wasn't disney related you should've shown video from the panorama of all of New York City inside the museum! It is one of my favorite places to visit.
To start, I've memorised that intro and just say it all the time, during videos and even when Disney is brought up around the house! I've watched TPMvids for years now, and love it so much! People can learn new things, escape reality and just feel completely immersed in the World of Disney. Thank you so much for this channel and I hope you can make more great videos like these for a long time in the future! Keep the Disney Magic alive!!! ✨😊✨
The park is now the home of the US Open and the Mets. I like to go there to watch the Mets and then stroll around the park. It's cool they used the NY Pavilion for Men in Black
I would have loved to see the Ford Magic Skyway come to life at Disneyland with real Ford vehicles and swap them out with new redesigned models as they were introduced to keep the ride current!
I absolutely LOVE this video! I mean I love all your videos but this one is special. I never really knew that much about the world's fair other than the few times you brought it up in other videos. This was an absolute pleasure to watch! 🌺
That is so cool! Flushing meadows corona park is only 10 minutes walking distance from where I live. I used to spend a lot of time at that park and never knew that this was part of it's history. I always thought it would be super cool if that park would become a theme park some day :)
I got so teary-eyed when you got to Carousel of Progress... It isn't my favorite show at Disney World but it's probably at least my second favorite. I love it a ton. I only wish that they'd update that Christmas scene though at least once every ten years... But even if that wish never comes true, I'm still glad we at least have it to experience. I do feel kind of sad though when I see people skipping it on purpose just because it's "boring". I don't find it boring in the least. The song makes me wanna dance in my seat and sing along and the learning experience I get every time I look at the technologies of the past with the show makes me feel a little more enriched. I'm entertained every time I go on it while I'm learning and that's a good thing. A very good thing. I wish that notion wasn't leaving EPCOT, though. Edutainment is the best of both worlds. People who grow up watching Reading Rainbow or Magic School Bus should know this...
One other tidbit about "It's a Small World:" The song was written by the Sherman Brothers, who were also responsible for "Mary Poppins" and many other scores and songs throughout the Disney conglomerate. At first they didn't like the song, but Walt said to them, "Boys, this is the song that's going to put your kids through college." He knew a hit when he heard one.
All of your Disney vids are great, but as an ex CM who worked west coast, this one is my ALL TIME FAVORITE video you've ever made. It hits all of my nostalga/history buttons at the same time. And hopefully folks can get a real sense of the culture that informs design choices made in the parks. CONGRATULATIONS on a fabulous piece of work.
Loved this video!!! So informative and I learned a lot of things!! Thank you for making this video!! My favorite to come out of The Worlds Fair NY was The Carousel of Progress; this ride is awesome to me and I ride it as much as I can when we go to WDW!!!!
It just boggles my mind that so many great buildings were demolished after the fairs. The ones from Chicago look amazing in photos, and these Disney buildings were just so cool.
one of my all time favorite rides, ever since i was a little kid, has been the Carousel of progress. this August will mark my near 20th time being to Disneyland or Walt Disney's World, and i always make an effort to go to C.o.P every day i am in Magic Kingdom
I actually WENT to the 1964 World’s Fair! My family rode the carousel of Progress, It’s a Small World and Great Moments with Mr Lincoln! I remember seeing the convertibles going around inside the Ford building, but didn’t ride it because my uncle said the lines were too long. I still love the Carousel and Small World, every time I visit WDW!
Didn't get get out there, still haven't, but I rode the DL CoP from 1967-73, i.e.,it'/s yearsd at DL (not counting the famous theme in 2015 at DL after that movie TOMORROWLAND) WIsh it could be brought back to its original DIL location..what's there now (and, sorry,AMERICA SINGS), won;t be missued much. The crowds would love CoP at Anaheim's DL today@!
CAROUSEL OF PROGRESS is still one of my favorite rides. I seen it as child at Disneyland. The few times that I have been to WDW, the Carousel is my first stop.
Other great attractions I remember we're IBM, GM, Johnson Wax, and Dupont. Great pavillions and shows/rides. The Vatican pavillion contained the Michelangelo Pieta direct from St Peter's. After which the Vatican declared it would never travel again. I also loved the Belgian Village which was like a piece of EPCOT which also owes a lot to the fair. Great Belgian waffles. You failed to mention Joan Crawford is the reason Small World exists but I guess nobody knows who she is anymore.
I literally love your channel so much. Whenever I go to Disney now I’m like I know this and this and this because of your channel. I think I’m your biggest fan!💗😂
I attended the '64 New York World's Fair while a jr. in my high-school marching band. We had been chosen to be the State of Wisconsin honors band for Wisconsin Day at the Fair that spring. As part of our duties, we marched and performed throughout the main fair grounds. Literally thousands of fair goers experienced our presentation. Many thought we were the University of Wisconsin band due to the large red "W" on our uniform overlay. I really enjoyed and "understood" the concept of the "fair mission". On our free day we ALL dressed up with sport coats or dresses, dress pants and shoes. For us it was a "dream world". I liked it so much that I visited again after graduation in '65. Our family visited Disneyland in '67, I was 19 and had all that pent up indoctrination from years of the Mickey Mouse Club and the Sunday Wonderful World of Disney tv shows. I was in awe. One could literally eat off the street....no gum, cigarette butt, wrappers, cans, cups etc.! The buildings were authentic beautifully crafted works. Lush landscaping, like a fairyland. Perfection not seen before. I went to WDW in '84 as a band chaperon, honeymoon '93, with two children (ours) in '07 and '10. A true family adventure experience! We loved it! Thanks for the memories!
As soon as I saw the model of the fair at 15:27 I had a flashback to Iron Man 2 with Tony rediscovering the new element! The globe was recognisable from that film too. Presumably the 1939 and 1964 New York World’s Fairs served as inspiration for the World Exposition of Tomorrow in Captain America and the two Stark Expos in Iron Man 2, since they were based in Flushing Meadows too
I attended this world's fair. I was a small child at the time. I remember so many people coming from every where to see it. I did go on the "It's a small world" ride. A fantastic thing for a small child. I also remember seeing the Pieta of Michelangelo in the Kodak exhibit-so beautiful. Plus there was the sampling of foods from around the world too.
Binge watching your videos during this difficult time!! I’ve been going every other year since I was little and this is the first time we won’t be able to make our trip. Finding some enjoyment here though!
Seeing the Mustang at the World's Fair actually was something that inspired my grandparents to buy one. And as the one ride I have a memory of riding on my one trip to Disneyland when I was 2 was Small World, learning later that it had part of the World's Fair was thrilling. It's also one of the few memories I have of my first trip to Disney World in that same year of 1982 although I was 3 by then.
My high school band paraded at the 1964-65 World's Fair in Flushing Meadows, New York for both years. I had just entered my teen years, and I HATED, absolutely LOATHED, "It's a Small World". I couldn't wait to get off that dippy ride. We also paraded at Man and His World, Expo 67, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. We were there for a parade and two extra days of exploring. The food was excellent and the attractions soooo much better than those of NYC.
Great moments with Mr. Lincoln is by far my favorite of these attractions. It is awe inspiring and chill inducing to be able to see and hear from an effigy of one of the greatest and most down to earth presidents we've ever had. Sure he had his flaws and I don't agree with 100% of what he did and said, but he was the man for the job at the time, and held the floundering nation together and got the ball rolling for a much needed social change.
It was brilliant of Walt to try out stuff at the fair in that he didn't pay. He was an unsung hero of innovation and magical stuff at his parks ended with his death. Yes, there is still crowd pleasing stuff at the parks, but one has to go to european theme parks to see the type of magic and innovation that Disney parks once were.
I was watching another video and I got the notification that you made a video, so I came straight to this. I love your videos. It always makes my day better, and it inspires me so much. This was a great video! Keep up the amazing work! (Edit:) I also do want to say, I think the Ford ride inspired Test Track at Walt Disney World.
Ever since i first started watching you in about 2017 i’d hear the intro and my brother always yells at me and says “nobody likes your videos TPM” and i’ve been watching still to this day 😂
This is an awesome video I want to encourage you to make more like this :) these are my favourite and I really enjoy the way you explain the history of the parks
My favorite World's fair attraction is the Carousel of Progress by far. I hope that it remains in the MK for a long time still and maybe gets a much needed refurbishment.
My mother went in 1964 or 1965. She said her parents took them on a train trip from California to NYC and back. They spent 2 or 3 days there. She said it was a wondrous experience. My grandfather was not a theme park guy. So this was a miracle in itself.
When I was watching the imagineering story on disney plus (much watch series) and I saw the globe I said "oh hey its universal!" Then my grandma is like "no that's the world's fair" 😅😂
This is probably the most fun I’ve had writing and producing a video and it’s one I’ve wanted to make ever since I visited Flushing Meadows Park last year. *Imagine how different the parks would be if Walt was still alive...*

Wow it's cool to go back in time and see stuff what it yousto look like before love your vids 💚 good work
Walt is really smart man!! Disney is amazing
This is one of your best videos. Well done.
Yay new video!!!!!! I’m speed when I saw that notification
"I'm speed"?
Dan of Xymox in other words I was fast

Very informative video thank you for sharing 👍
This is an awesome video I want to encourage you to make more like this :) these are my favourite and I really enjoy the way you explain the history of the parks
My favorite World's fair attraction is the Carousel of Progress by far. I hope that it remains in the MK for a long time still and maybe gets a much needed refurbishment.
Great video I love learning about this fair I have a Sky way car from the fair in my museum
My mother went in 1964 or 1965. She said her parents took them on a train trip from California to NYC and back. They spent 2 or 3 days there. She said it was a wondrous experience. My grandfather was not a theme park guy. So this was a miracle in itself.
