what i love abt those rings is that they don't hinder the developers from making hard bosses while also allowing everyone to enjoy the content :)
it's a beautiful concept that should be the standard in games instead of easy normal or hard just tweaking the health bars or attack damage of enemies
Judging by the teams MMORPG pedigree with FF14, I wouldn't be surprised if they rely less on pure reaction speed and more on learning your enemy's tells.
Which would be the sort of scenario where you'd be able to leverage your experience to compensate for slower reflexes!
respect to you sir for embracing the change in combat instead of complaining that the combat isnt turn based.

I love the idea of the ability to summon being basically a super power. Absolutely brilliant.
They do this already in FF15 because when you summon them it's kinda like an "I win" button

It's very similar towards Eren and other Titan shifters transform into their their Titan on Attack on Titan.

Oh my lord 🤩. The combat not just reminds me of DMC 5 but also Asura’s Wrath. It looks epic. But i’m curious with explorations, side quest, and mini games.
Didn't she just say this isn't an open world? Can't see there being any side quests if that's the case or very few I expect it to be like ff7 remake

Yeah I just done see how it's work unless they're gonna have like a centre hub where you go back too a bit like the dark souls games and go out into the missions from there that would be pretty dope
@@Lii4M1995 I just read Gamespot interview with XVI game director Hiroshi Takai. He said there will be hub area that contains shop, blacksmith, hunt board, access to main scenario / side quest, etc and the hub area works kinda similar with God of War 2018.

I knew that I'll be getting a PS5 one day but FFXVI WAS the reason I must get a PS5 as soon as possible. I'm really excited for this along with RE4 Remake

This is a great preview video! I wish there were details on the linearity of the game, the side quests, and character progression. Yes I know we have four months before release and those topics will likely be previewed during those months but . . . I'm impatient.
Yea I’m very curious to see how much exploration there is. Hopefully it’s more than just a line with some chests slightly off the path. My guess is it’ll be somewhat like FFVII Remake where some parts are extremely linear and other areas open up with side quests and shops
They said the game is semi open world like God of War 2018 but bigger zones and arenas and side quests will dive deeper into the lore of the world and characters similar to Chrono Trigger.

@Wickerrman while they have released some sheisty stuff lately... I have played just about every FF game outside of the MMOs, and enjoyed them all. I'm sure this one will be worth the money.
Can't wait for Final Fantasy XVI! The Icon battles remind me kaiju movies{Godzilla, King Kong, etc.) but with fantasy elements
The game looks great, but I'm still bemused by the decision to name the protagonist Clive.
Don't get me wrong it's a perfectly fine name, but the idea that someone at Square looked at past Final Fantasy protagonist names like Cloud, Squall, Zidane, Tidus, Vaan, Lightning, and Noctis and decided the perfect name for the hero of a new generation of Final Fantasy was Clive just tickles me.
At least it's better than "Jack"! 😅

FYI, FF IV protagonist name is Cecil and FF V is Bartz. So I don't see anything wrong with Clive. At least his name is not Dingo like Zone of the Enders 2 protagonist.

OG FF player here. Love both turn based and action based combat. It all depends on the game's aesthetics and presentation imo. Persona 5's style really meshes well with turn based while this game and its realistic and medieval art direction suits a more real time action based approach.
Looking forward to this game! One of the few I'll preorder this year along with ff7 rebirth.
Yea its very unique in its own way but feels too much like devil may cry but its a FF game and definitely a fan and will buy it

I’ve never had much interest in Final Fantasy as a series but my god this looks like a massive epic fantasy novel in video game form.
Yes, it’s changed a lot. And I get it, it must be frustrating as a longtime fan of the series to see it veering away from its turn-based science-fantasy roots. But as a fan of action-RPGs and classic fantasy settings, those changes have me excited for a Final Fantasy game for the first time in my life. Is that a bad thing?

I’m so excited, I really and truly hope that this game is as good as I think it will be. I also love the timing of this one! They didn’t decide to announce it 5 years before it was finished, and after such development hell from previous titles, lookin at you XV, that is so damn refreshing. I hope we have lots of cool equipment and a few different slots to put it all on, I hated how I’m XIII you only had like an accessory and weapon slot, I loved that game but I really enjoy getting into the nitty gritty of different equipment/builds. It’s releasing just in time for my birthday (25th)too!
I think you might be disappointed on that front I am expecting at most a weapon and a few accessories if we get an armor slot I will be shocked. Final Fantasy has never really been about builds really per say.
In FFX you had a weapon and an accessory to be outfitted with different bonuses.
FFXIII an accessory (more as the game progresses) and a weapon. That isn’t to say that FFXIII didn’t have certain ways you could build characters with these items, as you could build even Hope towards more melee but that wasn’t the best option.
FFXV I forget as I honestly blocked most of my memories from that game due to various disappointments.
If you want to know why they decided to cut on equipment it is because it really serves no purpose in most games as all equipment were just stat upgrades. You can also do a lot of things with just accessories and weapons too.
Actually now that I think about it FF7 and FF8 didn’t have a bunch of equipment either though with materia you could do a lot of different things.
Anyway the takeaway here is that even without armor they can find different ways to outfit the character with various bonuses depending on the situation.
In FFIX you had tons of different weapons and armor but it was mainly because of its character progression system (learning skills from items) and it was a love letter to the older games.
Oh I forgot to mention but FFXIII had I believe 3 accessory slots not one. Also someone confirmed we have weapon, bracer, belt, 3 accessories

Dude, can we talk about the serious Dark Souls vibes going on? I mean come on, look at that item!!! I am completely onboard with this game design for a FF game! Even the dark level design reminds me of DkS or DS. I am going to live in this game when it drops.
Item descriptions were not invented by Souls this is directly from Koji Fox who does FFXIV as well and the item descriptions are really good there as well.
@@monchicruz8278 I feel you. I was referring to how the item looked laying on the ground. Like a tiny orb of light with sparkles rising up from it similar to the Soulsborne games. And also how it was tucked back in a dark corridor. Just gave me Dark Souls vibes.

I went in blind this evening just expecting a modern Final Fantasy with the classic elements. I had no idea this game was rated-M, and even then I wouldn't have expected *Final Fantasy* to go so hard!
This game looks unbelievable see this has me soooooo hyped for this game
So they are moving further and further away from what made FF such a great series. I loved how you had a massive tactical component in the battles. The turn based ordering was what made FF different from all those action packed games and it was fun that way. Now they get the devil may cry combat style into a FF game. If I want to play DMC i'll play DMC. Bring back the FF of old!

@@jubez1875 Not true. FF use Active time Battle and you have to choose between wait or active. So, FF10 was turnbased with change of character in battle. Dragon QUEST ARE TURN BASED ! FF originaly for Dungeon & dragon Lovecraftians nerds and spiritual guys. Old FF was deep and masterclass. Today, its call of duty, fortnite etc. Usualy i like action devil may cry and god of wars. I'm fan on darksoul. But when i want a Finalfantasy I WANT a FinalFantasy ok ? Dont have any problem with evolution, but root of this saga are more complex than big graphic.
FF from I think V to IX were Active Time Battle, not Turn Based. FF10 was Turn based. FF12 was Real Time, FF13 back to Active, FF15 Real Time, FF7-Remake Active
There was Wait and Active. If you picked Wait it meant time would freeze while you'd navigate the Item and Magic menus. Its not like the enemies wouldn't attack until you had your turn, like in Turn based, if you just let the game sit they'd still be hitting you. Still quite different than FF16 which looks to be Real Time(?)

I think she's saying that there are no RPG elements with accessories/builds etc, and more just an action game with combos. Seems like a cross between FF14 and Devil May Cry.

i've played FF for 25 years from 1 to 15 since college till i have 2 children and i always impress how final fantasy always trying to took a big risk experimenting their big game for the need of evolving and the survival of their franchises not like other RPG that couldn't passed their 5th series, well even some of the experiment were failed but this time i think they're going to success, bringing a dark mediterania atmosphere for this game could fulfill the thirst of most darksoul-like fans and the quick-combat pace here i believe is to attract gen z and gen alpha fans since most of combat in mobile games or pc nowday are in real time and a bit quick.

So FFXVI is essentially Final Fantasy meets Devil May Cry meets Godzilla with some Game of Thrones-esque political subplot? Coming up next in Square's attempts at sprucing up the Final Fantasy series: Partnering up with FromSoft!
Starting classes:
Warrior: HP build, mid-weight armour, starts with a Kite Shield and a Battle Axe.
Red Mage: MP build, red-coloured clothes reminiscent of Lady Maria's Hunter garb, starts with a Vermilion Buckler and a special Rapier that's used as a Staff when "2 handing" it as well as the Ruin, Fire and Cure spells.
Lancer: Stamina build, Leather Armour, starts with a Great Shield and a Short Spear.
Pugilist: Strength build, wears a sleeveless karate gi and hachimaki, starts with a Fist weapon with a Praying Strikes/Beat Rush-like skill as well as a Marsahlist's Staff with the Twinblades' moveset.
Samurai: Dex build, Haori and Hakama, starts with Wakizashi, Katana and a Half Bow + 20 Arrows.
Black Mage: Int build, Black Mage garb, starts with a Dagger, Arcanist's Staff and the Fire, Blizzard, Thunder and Bio spells.
White Mage: Faith build, White Mage garb, starts with a Buckler, Arcanist's Staff and the Ruin, Barrier, Cure and Poisona spells.
Thief: Luck build, Locke-esque clothes, starts with a Parrying Dagger, Scimitar and Short Bow + 20 Arrows, boots allow Stealth.
Freelancer: LV1 build, traveller's clothes, starts with a Short Sword.
Other possible classes:
Berserker: Heavy Armour w/ High Poise, uses Colossal Weapons and Greataxes, bonus dmg when poising through an attack.
Paladin: Shiny Armour, uses Greatshields, Straightswords and Glintblade, Carian Granduer-esque and Radiant spells.
Dark Knight: Gloomy Armour, uses Colossal Swords as well as abilities that sacrifice HP for extra damage and aoe.
Sage: Versatile magic class, wears fancy robes, is kinda like playing a Black Mage and a White Mage at once.
Blue Mage: Dandy clothes with a Blue colour-scheme, uses a wide variety of Shields and Weapons as well as Ashes of War-like skills and spells obtainable from slain basic enemies.
Dragoon: Dons classic Dragoon armour, garb grants 10% bonus damage to jumping attacks, boots allow Spirit Spring jumping, uses Twinblades, Spears, Great Spears and Halberds with high-mobility arts like Storm Assault and Bloodblade Dance.
Monk: Classic FF Monk garb (like Yang or Sabin), gains a brand new Senpou Temple Monk-esque moveset for Fist weapons + Senpou Temple Monk-esque abilities and skills, etc.
Bard: Dandy clothes, uses Rapiers as well as Bows based on instruments with musical skills that grant AOE buffs and debuffs.
Sword Saint: Wears Samurai Armour, Ashina fighting-style, Floating/Spiral Cloud Passage and Waterfowl Dance-esque skills.
Geomancer: Onmyouji-esque garbs, Bestial Sling, Stone of Gurranq and Earthshaker-type spells and abilities, etc.
Astrologian: Scholarly garbs, uses spells based on Founding Rain of Stars, Glintstone Stars/Star Shower/Stars of Ruin, Rennala's Full Moon and Eternal Darkness as well as an assortment Gravity magic.
Summoner: Uses staves in one hand and, in the other, Grafted Dragon-esque weapons with a new moveset that has the "weapon" lash out and pretty much drag the PC along for the attacks; Phoenix Fledgling's Skill: Fire of Rebirth -- Flame Vent-like AOE attack that bestows user with Sacrificial Twig-ish buff; Bahamut Hatchling's Skill: Night and Flame Comet/Megaflare, Bahamut Prince's Skill: Azur's Comet/Gigaflare... also gets a few Spirit Ashes-like summons and Dragon Incantation-esque spells, like Agheel's Flame/Phoenix Flame of Rebirth -- bestows user with Sekiro-like revival buff, and Placidusax's Ruin/Teraflare.
Ninja: Shadow-esque garb, boots allow Stealth, increased damage with backstabs and critical attacks, uses throw-able items and ninjutsu spell scrolls, return of Sekiro Ninja Arts like Shuriken > Chasing Slice.
Gambler: Uses very dandy Setzer-ish clothes as well as various Cards, Dice, Darts and Roulette Roundshields and Billard Table Greatshields, Luck-based RNG class with mechanics meant to get the odds on the player's side.
Gunbreaker: Versatile class, wears Squall-esque clothes, return of the Riflespear, Reiterpallasch and FF's own Gunblade of course.
Mechanist: Bloodborne-esque firearms and weapons like the Boom Hammer and Whirligig Saw, etc.
Necromancer: Special class unlocked by beating the secret Lich boss, garb bestows the Zombie status effect, uses a Staff/Scythe weapon that gives Black Magic a hefty boost, employs skills and spells obtainable from slain bosses. The FromSoft class if you will.

As a FF14 veteran, I saw many elements from it in FF16 battle. One thing that worries me is how much of FF14 difficulties was allowed into FF16. I can't imagine seeing casual FF fans playing Extreme or Savage level fights similar from FF14. But at the same time, what about the FF14 players, would they be satisfied with the difficulties?
Sony are gonna do well with this and Spiderman 2 this year. 2 potential GOTY titles I would expect
So no party, no switching characters, pausing/ability selecting in anyway? Is this really FF, or an rpg at this point? Its pretty much an action game /dmc/bayonetta. No necessarily a bad thing, but not what I was hoping for.
Are you able to take the strike wording and numbers off in settings?
I’m excited, this truly gets the hype train going. But I can’t stop thinking that this would be a perfect vessel for a Xenogears remake. Combat starts as characters, that can transition into a gear mid battle (instead of an Eikon).
I do hope we see some form of party/other playable characters, even if it’s a watered down version of FF7R/FF15. I wouldn’t be mad if party members were like RedXIII, or the Choco-Bros (pre DLC). You don’t control them, but they help out with ATB attacks, or throw a heal your way.
As someone who was bored very quickly with de DMC combat.... I hope i dont get the same feeling here
