So for now we trimethylaminuria patients can only rely on the Mediterranean diet, the intake of olive oil, balsamic vinegar, fish oil with DHA and riboflavin. I hope Dr. Hazen's supplement is released as soon as possible.

@Il Joker From what I know Dr. Hazen's product is often more potent than resveratrol and will not have the negative effects it has.

Uh, you can stop consuming carnatine and choline by eating a whole food plant based vegan diet and avoid the issue all together. All extracted oil, I repeat ALL, damages the lining of your arteries. Therefore a med diet is not ideal. It may be better than a western diet, but do you want “a little better” health or optimal health?

How about instead of coming up with and prescribing more drugs to treat lifestyle related diseases we treat the lifestyle and recommend eliminating animal products from your diet? This sounds like another way for big food industry/animal agriculture/big pharma to sell unhealthy foods/drugs to us to make profits!!

japanese and other asians eat more fish than any country in the world and fish or seafood is very very high in TMAO and japan has a lot of people who age into their 100s eating fish. Japan also consumes the most eggs in the world so japanese also have a high cholesterol intake and they still out live everyone.

Red meat is being satanized everywhere and if you also look at Sardinia, Italy people live over 95 years old and consume tons and tons and tons of red meat and pork. Guys the enemy of the heart are 2 things: 1. Trans Fat (fried junk food) and 2. SUGARRRR SUGARRRRRR......... Meat is an ancestral food guys.

Oh brother, I respect the doctor for what it’s worth but it just pains me to see the willful ignorance of suggesting that a drug is the answer to TMAO production when he just explained his understanding that it is the gut flora that determines presence of TMAO. You can change your gut microbiome simply by what you eat. And the science is abundantly clear on this: fibrous plant food feed “good” bacteria, and fatty animal foods feed “bad” bacteria. It really is that simple. You can argue all day long which animal foods are better or worse, but when it comes to gut bacteria ALL ANIMAL FOODS HAVE CARNITINE, CHOLESTEROL, OR CHOLINE and are therefore bad for you. That’s just science. We were designed to eat plants not animals. The sooner we understand this, the sooner we can work toward better health. Scientifically speaking, you cannot claim optimal health if you eat a diet containing any animal food. And yes there are bad plant foods and definitely all processed food is bad, but that’s not my point. A tailored wholefood vegan diet is scientifically the most optimal diet for any individual. Nobody needs meat, period. Everybody needs certain nutrients derived from plants. These are facts. Facts don’t care about your feelings. Facts also don’t care about your anecdotes. The hard research bear out the conclusions of Dr. T. Colin Campbell’s book The China Study. Animal fat and protein cause disease in a predictively scalable manner. The more meat, the more disease, and conversely, the more nutrient-dense plants, the less disease. Yes everyone is different but that’s why I said a “tailored” wholefood vegan diet. The only nutrients we can’t reliably get from plants that we need are B-12 (that comes from bacteria, not plants or meat), Iodine (due to soil depletion, and Vitamin D which is a hormone made in the skin in response to solar radiation (sunlight). So get some sun and take a few supplements, but no excuse not to be vegan if you are claiming to strive for optimal health.

      typical dogmatic vegan.
you are designed to eat a mixture of plants and animals, that is why you need a b12 pill when you eat exclusively plants FACT, facts are facts.
The fact you advocate supplements suggests you know absolutely nothing about healthy eating.
There is no scientific evidence to back up a single thing you have said here.

@@dailydozenpoops931 b12 doesn't come from meat. It comes from bacteria in soil and water. When animals were allowed to graze, they'd get their b12 from soil. Since 99% of the meat that is consumed in the US comes from factory farmed animals that don't graze on grass, factory farmed animals have to be given b12 supplements as well...you can buy them on Amazon. The b12 that you're gettng from meat came from supplements that were given to the animals. You're getting your b12 indirectly from supplements as well; you're just getting them from a middleman. Think before you attack someone because you never know when you're the one who is wrong.
