I was a little girl when President Reagan was shot. Being little, I was worried about him so my daddy suggested that I write him a get well card; so I did. One evening after dinner, I was called by my dad to come talk with him and when I sat down he handed me an envelope and said, “Can you guess where this letter came from?” I couldn’t read yet but I remember looking at the envelope and I recognized the emblem but was still confused. I asked him what it was about and if I was in trouble. He laughed and opened it very carefully. I climbed onto his lap so I could see what he was reading and he began to read me a little letter thanking me for my well wishes. It was personally signed by President Reagan. To this day, I regard that as one of my most precious things I have. He really did care about every single person, even the lil ones. I sure wish that great men like that were in leadership rolls. I never was into Westerns until the last several years and now I’m obsessed with The Duke. John Wayne is an Icon that can never be replicated. You always know where he stood and he was a great father. Two of the best men we will forever remember.
Timothy Baxter Thank you so very much for your kind words. Both of my parents were first and second generation children of immigrants who came to The USA from war torn countries, literally fleeing from tyranny with not much more than the clothing they wore and a few dollars. They all were so Patriotic because for the first time in in their lives they knew what it truly meant to be free! Freedom to prosper and make their own choices and decisions about everything they never had before. That was taught to both of my parents just as it was taught to me and I my children. We really need to pause and take a good look at where we are at as a Nation and how far it’s advanced in the shortest amount of time over any other country and ask ourselves why that came to be. Now I’m not saying that we are a perfect Nation, however if you look at where other countries came from and you see that not much has changed over their expansive histories because they simply are not free to advance. The United States of America is the only Country that was founded by The People and has continued to advance in every area of life thanks to The Judicial System. (Anything that’s operated, run, or created by Humans is going to be fallible to some extent because no one is perfect.) What makes The USA so awesome is that we have Rules and Laws and they are up dated and created multiple times a day. Have you ever noticed how many silly laws that are on the books from the beginning of record that are still in there but are from the 1800’s. They are there to remind us how it used to be and how much they have changed over time as we evolve as the Greatest Country in the World! Of course you have bad because we are human, but it is Our collective Duty to OUR COUNTRY to continue to strive to be better and want to grow as a Nation. This is the largest melting pot of every possible combination of people and that’s what makes US so Prosperous. If we don’t Stop, Drop and Roll right NOW, we just might burn down the most Free Country in the World. That WILL hurt every other country in the world and Tyranny will be “The New Normal.” This is no longer just a Political issue, this is the defining moment of the Country’s future for your children and Patriotism and Freedom will no longer be a choice. Ronald Reagan once said, “We are always just one generation away from not being free.” This is that time where my children’s generation will no longer be free. I love America and all of its diversity but there is no longer Journalists, just teleprompter readers. So who’s writing this “Narratives?” Communist Socialist Elites, and I’m done tip-toeing around the truth. If the Democrats lose, they will not accept that nor will they stop after they forcefully remove the rightful candidate from office. I was terrified that Obama wasn’t going to leave and I allowed it to affect my life because I didn’t see him do anything except plant seeds of hate and division from within. But when I watched Pilosi announce the things she did and continue doing, I see this is bigger than the plandemic and we all need to stop and reflect on where we want to see ourselves a year from now and then into the demise of everything The USA has accomplished and stood for. 100’s of thousands of people died in the Civil war. The Democrats didn’t want to give up their slaves and they don’t want to do it now. They just want to enslave as many that make it through the upcoming famine . It our God Given Right to be free and WE control the government. That’s the way it was set up, so this very thing would never happen. God is within us all by different ways but HE IS ONE and for anyone thinking that I believe anything other than what I said, don’t read into that. I want the Constitution help up for everyone and it could very well be torn up by the speaker of the house just like she did on national television right behind the President of the United States of America. Have you thought about that to the Hollywood people who used to be normal ( most of them) before you got filthy rich off of your fans and now you dump on them by putting over 150 million into a Go Fund Me to keep bailing out the Rioter & Looters. You keep helping confuse people with all of the different crisis’ you caused the states to stay closed and that is going to directly make you obsolete because no one is going to be able to afford to go to a movie or concert or any professional sports let alone having to hear your constant attacks that more than not have Served in the a Military. I won’t be attending certain concerts, movies or anything to do with anyone who has been using the public to get rich and then turn on them. Then who’s going to clean your toilets and act as your servants now. God you and May God Bless the United States of America!

Timothy Baxter I apologize for the spelling mistakes, I was really tired when I wrote it and I didn’t reread it before I sent it. This has turned into a huge puppet show and I think the puppet masters should be the ones that have their assets frozen so they can’t continue to pay their protestors. I doubt that the sheeple would continue without getting something in return. They don’t even know what they are protesting about! I grew concerned years ago when you would see late night talk show comedians have someone go out and ask the general public simple questions about current events or history that they should have learned in elementary school and they didn’t know any of the answers. Everyone laughed and thought it was funny, but I looked at my husband and said, “We are in trouble because these are the very people who are easily programmed and brainwashed. I bet you anything that they end up dumbing down the education system more to control these very people.” What happened soon after? Common Core! Enough said. I love people and I love my Country. I’ve been blessed to travel to many other countries and have real experiences with different cultures and the one thing that I heard from every single person I met from every country I was at was, “I dream of one day coming to America and being FREE! I want my children to have a future and choices that I didn’t and don’t have.” EVERY SINGLE PERSON. Not one had anything bad to say about America and then I watch how entitled people here act and I pity them. If you hate America so much, then GO! Find your favorite communist party and GET OUT! I guarantee that you will change your mind after even a week in another country. You can’t protest in any other country than here, they would make you disappear! Bye Bye, I don’t care, go! I’m sorry but I’m not trying to be correct, I’m being honest. I value my experiences with all of the people I have met and learned from and it just strengthened my resolve for my Patriotic Stand for The United States Of America! God Bless you for your positivity and I’m proud to be able to comment on your thread.
I have just watched and commented on this film of President Reagan, and I just wanted to let you know, I really liked reading the comment you left. It says a good lot about the true man he was, of the good heart he lead the USA with. He meant and acted as the man of good will to the world we all live live in, with wisdom and courage and dignity. And in this mad behaving age we live in, doesn't it seem truly mad that they mocked him? Thank you again for your description of the moment.
John Wayne and Ronald Reagan didn't dodge military service because they probably just forgot to fight in World War II. Here's some actors who weren't so forgetful, served when they were called and who actually risked their lives for their country. Don Adams, Eddie Albert, Martin Balsam, Ernest Borgnine, Mel Brooks, Art Carney, Jackie Coogan, Tony Curtis, Ossie Davis, Kirk Douglas, Charles Durning, Henry Fonda, Glenn Ford, Clark Gable, Frank Gorshin, Alan Hale, Sterling Hayden, Charlton Heston, William Holden, George Kennedy, Burt Lancaster, Lee Marvin, Burgess Meredith, Audie Murphy, Jack Palance, Tyrone Power, Jason Robards, Don Rickles, Rod Steiger, Jimmy Stewart and Jack Warden.
He did not dodge he was un fit to serve because of Medical issues he had he tried to enlist & was Rejected by all the Branches of Services. Get your facts straight before opening your mouth etc.
John Wayne's draft in 1941 was at first deferred because he had a wife to support and four children. During the war years he became a big star but didn't follow other famous actors into the services. He chose to make movies. In 1944, he was re-classified as 1-A but his studio intervened and got him a deferment "in support of national interest.” A month later the Selective Service decided to revoke many previous deferments and reclassified him 1-A. Wayne’s studio again appealed and got his 2-A status reinstated.
I just remember a quote from John Wayne when he was criticized for waving an American flag to those critics he said this “sure I’ll wave the American flag . You know a better flag to wave ? Sure I love my country with all her faults , and I am not ashamed for that never have been never will be !
I didn’t know much about John Wayne until the last several years when I got sick of the crap they are trying to push on us and stated watching the Westerrn channels and I actually learned a lot about how it was after the Civil War. That’s why so many people who lost everything got on a Wagon Trains and headed West. They are truly HEROS for the hardships and loss of lives traveling to settle land that people take for granted today as if it were always there. Not so. John Wayne was a True American Patriot that was not intimidated by the communist party that was trying to label everyone who was Patriotic as the enemy. Backwards to the point of confusing people who were not up on every political thing going on. I have noticed that many people don’t really start taking a serious interest in the government until they are approximately 30 ish and have a vested interest now that they are in the work force and looking to start a business or family. Watch The movie McLintock, it’s full of political jabs in humorous ways. I love John Wayne now and he is someone that is really worth learning about.

As a German, I will never forget what the man did for my country. He was probably the best President of the USA. Through his fight against communism on all fronts, he paved the way for the reunification of my country. I shall never forget that.
@@JamesRichards-mj9kw Just can't bring yourself to give credit where it is is due, can you? Had the Dems had their way, the U.S.S.R would have lived for decades longer. Regan put the pressure on the Soviets and forced them the implode.
President Reagan gave hope to East Germans who suffered under the Communist regime and its Stazi secret police. Without his speech at the Berlin Wall, communism would have continued for who know how many more decades - just like it remains across Asia (China, Vietnam, North Korea). The reunification of Germany was one of the great moments of the 20th Century.
If you have the opportunity please go see the movie REAGAN starring Dennis Quaid. President Reagan's speech at the Berlin Wall was featured. I was fortunate to be a teenager in California when he was our governor and I got to see he and Nancy at a ranch near where I lived as he was campaigning. I thank you for your kind words about my favorite president!😊
I live in Italy and was born in 2005, but recently I have done lots of research on US presidents in the XX century and must say Reagan is one of my favourites. He was such a humble, charming and funny person
History is king to our future. lol. so as a outsiders look at our presidents who is the worst president you learn of? Lincoln, Woodrow Wilson and Raegan are among my favorites.
President Reagan was my CIC when I served in the Marine Corps 1986-1990. I was proud to serve under him. He was a great president and a good human being. Our country misses men like him and John Wayne.
Appreciate That. Now we have another with similarities to President Reagan, although different, but chose to run for President, when both men didn’t have to do so. Trump 2024.

I had dinner with Merv Griffen and Pres Reagan about something they asked me to do later in the year and I felt heard by these men. Now that's amazing because I was just a young man with some skills but still just a young man. I learned allot in 90 min and still today the lovely and confident posture they displayed is something to aspire to. I know people that were democrats then that voted for Reagan and I now see why they were in once proud to have voted for republican. I was barely a teen then. I still remember his jokes.
My first Presidental vote was for Ronald Wilson "Dutch" Reagan in 1980. I was 20. I voted for him again in '84. Will never regret it. Some may disagree with his ideology, and that's fine, but he was a man of his word. Honest, great public speaker and a genuinely nice person. We need more politicians like him today. Nancy was a bit rough around the edges... but then again, here husband was shot.
When Ronald Reagan died, I cried. His love for this great nation and its countrymen was so palpable. I'm thankful to GOD I've lived amongst such great human beings. Times have truly changed! 🇺🇸
Fuck Reagan. He was gun grabbing piece of shit. Because of this asshole you cannot open carry in CA. He also signed off on the 1986 FOPA and supported the 1994 AWB after he left office.
His voice and presence were impressive and made people feel safe and trusting. Unfortunately it was all an act. He did not have the knowledge or wisdom that he projected.
Regan started the financial crisis by his deregulation that helped the mega rich take over the country. Do some research (not including watching fox news)

robert perkins No he didn't. You're right. But he did take advantage of his celebrity status to avoid being conscripted. There are lots of other Hollywood actors who could have done the same thing but refused. I don't personally blame him for not wanting to join up (I would have been equally keen to avoid being shot at) but I do condemn his later hypocrisy in condemning young men who dodged the draft to Vietnam. By the way, there is a myth that he wasn't conscripted on medical grounds. It's rubbish. And I HAVE done the research.
Except he avoided serving in WW2. Even Kathryn Hepburn, Mel Brooks, Paul Newman, Kirk Douglass, Jimmy Stewart served, but Wayne? Wayne was a CHCKENHAWK, a scared little turd who avoided serving.
What a great American!! His humor, intelligence and eloquence are sadly missed. His humor was disarming even to the press. He truly loved our country and had a tremendous love and respect for all Americans and people in general. He was a real gentleman.
Ronald Reagan Was An Absolutely Excellent President. In American History, He Will Always Be Honored. As A Number One Patriot, And He Will Always Remembered, Forevermore 100%
No, he was not! He hated Unions which, btw, offered decent retirements. Workers gained nothing during his Presidency while his phony 'trickle down' theory made many more billionaires over the next 35 years with less & less tax revenues for the U,S. treasury. There was a border problem then & he did nothing. He didn't give a crap about the looting of Social Security funds. Quit Lionizing Reagan.🙈🙉🙊

Yep! In the New Testament it says[ paraphrased] that what is in a persons heart will be revealed by the way they live. As far as I know RR was a man of Christian belief and conviction. It showed in his demeanor. And he put real meaning into the motto on your currency 'In God We Trust' And isn't that motto also on the wall in your court rooms as well? [or is that just in the movies and on TV shows] - If that is still the case it's a wonder that they are still there when you consider the number of Democrat Administrations that have come and gone. [The Marxist Left by definition are atheistic and whereas the atheists in the west of yesteryear were fairly placid and even fair minded in public debate in the 21st century many of them have a view of take no prisoners and will verbally mug anyone who believes in Biblical Christianity].
You always have to consider the source. When your consumed with hatred and evil, to expect anything less is a fallacy. That maliciousness carries a steep consequence.
Mark Harrison Yes, the Cold War would have ended with Jimmy Carter's "malaise". In 1940 France had the most powerful army in the world, but had a defeatist attitude. Defeatism is contagious. Reagan still believed America's best days were ahead, Carter believed we had to manage it's decline. Not much has changed.
At the beginning of the war France was widely regarded as having the best army in Europe. This may have been untrue, but the allies had more artillery, more planes, and more & better tanks than Germany in the 1940 campaign.
Now, if you wish to delve into his history, you will find that John Wayne and a few of his friends were gun toting anti semetic.Don't bother arguing, reseach it.Ward Bond was of similar mind and he and Wayne used to have heavy drinking sessions together.

A respectful interview. What a contrast to today, where interrupting by talking over is endless. Mr. Reagan’s time as President was an optimistic period, how I miss that.
If there is anybody that i may have looked up to as a boy an young man was John Wayne an i miss him dearly. He was everything that a man should be an everything that a young boy should be.
Reagan was hardly a patriot. He froze pay increases for the military for almost 2 years, suspended COLA payments to active servicemembers for 12 months. Denied tens of thousands of vietnam vets any retiremnt at all. Not to mention the Iran-Contra scandal, the Keating Home Loan scandal and mass amnesty for Illegals.
A bar that can never be reached... Reagan was a example all presidents should have to be following. My mother met john Wayne when she was young, before she met my dad, in a small town called Westport washington. His boat had some issues and needed to dock. Saw a local football game, saw the people, became a influence to my mom. My dad was retiring from the USCG when Reagan passed away, and I was home healing up from discharge from the army (I'm good now), I cried, and pop would have been at the funeral procession, as he was a representative for the USCG to the Pentagon... Usually it was behind the scenes and out of the public eye, so few people knew about it. He was a great man. He came to Sacramento the day before the 84 election, and spoke at the Capitol. My 7th grade class went to see him. I will always remember that. I was old enough that i had been paying attention to politics and world affairs for a couple of years by then. He was one of the best. I think his trademark was his unfailing optimism about America and its future. I doubt he is resting easy with the way things have become. He is certainly the president i remember most in my life.
I envy you having that letter. I'm also so glad that you wrote your card. Your parents raised a good person.

John Wayne and Ronald Reagan. You NEVER had to wonder if they loved our country. They are missed.
Why did he dodge the draft?
And they put the average person first, unlike most elitist bureaucrats of now.

It would have happened anyway, due to the Soviet economic stagnation in the early 1980s.

I had the honor of serving and having supper with him and Casper Weinberger onboard the Uss Constellation in 1982 when he came onboard to present us with the Battle E and made the Connie the flagship of the Pacific Fleet. What a really down to earth person he was. With God rest his soul
I wish I was alive and able to vote for Reagan. I was born in 1993. I’ve done a lot of research on his administration, and he’s one of my favorite presidents. What a man.

I am one Brazilian citizen and i have always admired the Pres. Ronald Reagan for his firmness and straightness. May God have him and protect America and the world from evil and wickedness.

Every president has a bunch of good and bad things that they did. The overall effect of President Reagan and his policies was very positively for the American people. One can see the positive change that Reagan brought about if they see how the misery index drastically reduced from the time Reagan's presidency started to the time it ended.
@@kauphaart0 You cannot say he was not honest and not a patriot! Iran-Contra was illegal but he was trying to help desperate people fighting for freedom. I think that is always right! Mass amnesty for all illegals was a massive act of compassion. All presidents face challenges that do not have a good solution. I don’t mind when they make mistakes. What I do mind is if they don’t care about the country at all!

Our too best presidents were non politicians. They cared about the country and got the job done
Both racist!
🤔 YEAH, RIGHT... 🤨
Exactly. We're left with morons like Trump, Palin and MJT instead. I can't believe how far and how low our party has fallen. Our last hope was John McCain but the lipstick wearing Alaskan pig sent our party into freefall so deep that a mental midget TV celebrity like Donald J (for genius) Trump actually spent time in our White House.
Electing Ron DeSantis as President is our only hope of redeeming ourselves. After how badly Trump screwed the pooch the first time around, if the Fatman gets in again it will be the end of America which is why China and Putin are once again working so hard to give him another shot. If he wins, they win.

robert perkins No he didn't.

I 💯% agree. Thank You Mr. President

Watching him now, for the first time in perhaps 20 years, it's so clear to see what a sweet, decent, loving man he was...and to think how slanderously he was maligned by the left wing press throughout his political career and thereafter.
How? The Cold War would have ended anyway due to the Soviet economic stagnation.

Yes, the Cold War would have ended with Jimmy Carter's "malaise". In 1940 France had the most powerful army in the world, but had a defeatist attitude. Defeatism is contagious. Reagan still believed America's best days were ahead, Carter believed we had to manage it's decline. Not much has changed.
France did not have the most powerful army.
He really loved America and what it really stands for!
At the beginning of the war France was widely regarded as having the best army in Europe. This may have been untrue, but the allies had more artillery, more planes, and more & better tanks than Germany in the 1940 campaign.

Ever read the Reagan Diaries? He really was a genuine, caring person who loved America and his fellow citizens. Many times in the diaries he had heard about a group of people in dire straits, and tried to find ways to help them.
