It must be the ultimate satisfaction for a president who has served two terms, to see his vice president elected after him.
The last time a VP was elected president when he was VP was when Martin Van Buren followed Andrew Jackson in 1836. And it hasn't happened since 1988.
After 8 great years of Ronald Reagan, how can the American people reject his VP?
@Wes McGee Don't worry. Trump will serve a second term.
@@timothylee2772 That would be disastrous, as it has been over the last four years. regardless of conservatism or liberalism, Trump has been nothing but an insult to the american people the entire time he's been in office. You look back at the days of Reagan and Bush senior and get nostalgic for what the republican party once stood for. Gentle leadership and american values, rather than hate, spreading misinformation, and using the highest office for personal gain for you and your friends. it's disgusting.
Kevin Thompson You didn’t give a single reason not to re-elect President Trump, and for the record, lying, bribery, and bias are features of both parties.
When you go away to college and your little brother takes your room.
Reagan's demeanor here is awesome. He seems so genuinely happy for Bush.
I mean he was his vp so
This is actually sad to watch as it shows just how civilized things were in the 80s compared to now. Respectful and dignified transfer of power, polite questions from the media and the days before social media had reared it's ugly head.
These days are gone, unfortunately.
True very true in every era there are challenges ups and downs 80’s were a different time and world but however 80’s also had problems like high inflation interest rates Had to deal with Aids issue crack epidemic crisis and the War on Drugs so forth but it was a time essence and the heydays. During this time there another recession lead in the early 90’s. At least there no social media or even smart phones this was before the internet.

For a very long time, Presidents didn't bridle at questions or belittle reporters for asking certain things. Reagan understood and respected the media's role in politics.
they were from the same party so it would be a nice transfer
These two presidents saved thousands Ethiopian refugees from the desert of Sudan in 1986-1988. I am one of them. God bless their soul.
Is that when Sudan being part of the Arab league was hesitant to help them because they were Jewish. That made me mad they would bow to the Arab league.
And killed more in their wars.. well done wonderful presidents

Honestly George HW Bush’s story is amazing to me. He enlisted in WW2 on his 18th birthday, became the youngest aviation officer at the time, during a bombing mission he had to jump out of his plane and out of all the people on that mission he was the sole survivor and the others literally got cannibalized by the Japanese, by some act of God he happened to get picked up by a friendly submarine, survived the rest of the war and went home to marry the love of his life and eventually became President of that country he volunteered to defend when he was still a teenager.

The modern mainstream media is the enemy of the people. They should be neutral, report the bad and the good, not just the bad. Before social media, when people skills had to be developed. Seems like for every step we take forward technologically we take a bigger step back socially and intellectually. A word used to be a person's bond at one time and some could actually be trusted to keep their word, now we sign several dotted lines above fine print for nearly every important and just as many not so important decisions we make.
@@taskcasburn6086 Good point. People will abdicate their personal judgment (which requires the hard work of study before the judgment and the hard work of taking responsibility after the judgment) to an outside process: a herd opinion, a Human Resources Manual, a political view, Facebook and Twitter, etc. Social media makes that easier, because it's easy to find a group to replace your own personal judgment.
@@Kube_Dog And that's what we do now, we like to follow rather than go against the tide, dare to make ripples, and walk in the veracity of our own personal convictions, despite the consequences, because that takes courage. Everybody just wants to be a caricature of some perceived greater personification of humanity, it's why we love to build up heroes and live vicariously through them, rather than live a life of solitude ensconced in our own individualism, because again, that takes courage. Selfie culture has make the superficial, vessels of vain glory, and hero worship has replaced solidarity and personal conviction leading to accountability, and yet once again for the same reason, it takes courage to look hard upon ourselves. Courage is the only virtue that enables all others and when much of society is too afraid to even look in the mirror anymore, for fear of what will be staring back at us, we look to everything else to avoid looking at ourselves. We are just huddled masses, each in our own group identity or mentality, all looking for the promised land and our own ideological messiah figure to lead us there. In my view, this is where we are as a society right now. And the grave danger of this is that as our desperation grows, so does our willingness to compromise our values, beliefs and traditions.
@@taskcasburn6086 Yes, indeed. I'm old school. I will hold any belief that I can demonstrate to be accurate, based on facts and clear logic. Not that I don't make mistakes, but when someone can show me where I'm wrong on fact or my logic, I change my belief accordingly. That approach is mocked today. Or people think I'm just saying that to appear smart, while I'm really just joining a "team" like they do. That kind of cultural shift happens anytime an emotional movement gets started, be it hippies, Nazis, MeToo, or whatever. It seems like it always leads to violent conflict before reason returns. I dunno. Maybe there are exceptions.

Since 9/11, NAFTA(which took away US' global factory title), Iraq war, and most importantly US' biggest economic drainer Afgan war US has, unnecessarily, spent it's vital dollars in vain and war instead of consolidating its soft power, science&Tech. lead, and vital 21st century foreign policy dynamics- Which I think if US would have done, it would be forever, again saying "forever", world number one superpower but looks like Osama was a curse on America's glowing stars! Since then China's extreme hard work, her economic miracle and most sadly US' complacency has cost her what China gained and probably dragged us in another cold war where US and USSR roles have been transferred respectively to China and US and looking back at result of last cold war, it is an alarming sign for US, which I think America hasn't waken up to yet and if it soon doesn't we have new world order on the way pretty soon!
