Moms & Dads - Please start teaching your children to help at home with the chores. My son is on the spectrum & he was taught early on to empty the dishwasher, take out the trash / recycling, keep his dirty clothing in a big trashcan in his room, etc. He needed constant reminding, but it got done. It helped out so much.

Kudos to you! Special needs kids are often written off as “unteachable” and it’s just not true. My niece has about 1/3 of a brain and my awesome sister taught her to write and read. It’s at about a 1st grade level but it helps her to communicate and feel so good about herself.

The easiest way how to do this is decluttering. They actually need 6 person set and that's all. 6 spoons, 6 forks, 6 plates, 6 cups. And get rid of all the plastic. Leave one sippy cup for every baby/toddler. It's easy to keep everything clean if you just load a dishwasher every night.

What this homeowner could also benefit from is help from a professional decluttering and organizing coach. The volume of water bottles and dishes was overwhelming. Decluttering 75% of the dishes would make her life easier.
Also, you don’t need to apologize for using paper towels! 31:19

So I'm curious, did you become really clean because of the mess you grew up in or did living in that kind of mess normalize it and so you continued to live in a similar way?

I know this is 6 months later, but I can too say I grew up in a home that was similar if not also worse. I can remember back when my mom (who suffers from depression, anxiety, epilepsy) struggled with us 3 kids. My dad was constantly working and even worked 15 hours away in another state at one point. That was only because he was opening a new location for his job. Anyway, my point was, she acted as a single mother for a few months while my dad was away. I know she STRUGGLED! I was 13 years old when I recognized her struggle, (also when she had a really aggressive seizure) it basically forced me to grow up quickly, being I was her oldest daughter. I helped out as much as I could with cooking dinner, cleaning, etc. I remember being a little older and thinking to myself that my house isn’t going to be like this when I get older. I started with my room, once my sister moved into my brother’s old room. My parents quickly found out who the cleaner child was 😆. I too thank you for your hard work with this family. I know the mom appreciated everything you’ve done for her and her kids. I also enjoy seeing people help others especially in this day and age sadly.

@@vmdyer6743 agreed! Had a friend who had 2 small children when her husband unalived himself, in the house. A huge trauma.
When the kids were about 8 & 10 she had an all day mandatory event at her college and asked us to watch the kids.
The house was filthy, we had all day, so we engaged the kids in help cleaning.
Like they literally didn't know where the toilet paper was stored. They didn't know where the dishes went. They didn't know how to run the dishwasher nor the clothes washer.
It wasn't lazy, they weren't disabled. No one had ever taught them any of that. Not any of the grandma's, grandpa's, great grandma's, aunt's, uncle's, no one! They had a huge family all living within a few miles, and no one came in and helped mom, nor taught the kids. The kids didn't even object to helping, but we're just dumbfounded. Once the understood the assignment, they were willing to do the work.

I think if it had sounded like normal cleaning sounds it might've been different for me but the sound was so distorted and sounded almost underwater, maybe because it's sped up, that it was really grating for me. I do agree about the annoyance of having to constantly adjust volume on some videos with music but that was what I was having to do on this one so I would've preferred, if there wasn't going to be music, just silence between the voiceovers. I have ADHD, depression, and anxiety and a 7 year old boy with ASD/ADHD and a 4 year old boy. I've always been somewhat of a disorganized person, "piles" tend to follow me. We just moved back to WI from CO and purchased our first home. I've gotten very into minimalism, decluttering, cleaning, homemaking (you know, that ADHD LASER FOCUS) and it's all changing my freaking LIFE. I'm learning that I CAN do it, small bursts at a time. It's been wonderful for me, and I'm finally proud of my home. Is it perfect? Company-ready? Not usually! But I can get it to that point A LOT quicker! I'm a new sub, thanks so much for all you do! I'm so glad you've learned that and are taking steps to keep your new home in order. I applaud you!👏❤️

No judgement here, but I can say from experience that the more dishes you have, the lazier you become. I used to have a boat load of silverware so that I didn't have to wash dishes until they were piled all over my kitchen. Then when I didn't have any clean dishes to use, I would look at the pile of dirty ones knowing that they now needed to be washed and I would have a full-on panic attack. I finally did a kitchen declutter, and now my kitchen stays clean. I kept only 4 plates, four bowls, spoons, forks ETC. It's only me and my husband, so there is no need to have an overwhelming amount of kitchen stuff.

Definitely. And then I just take a minute to look around and see what would make the biggest difference the fastest because that always gets me motivated to just keep going. In this case, it was gathering the dishes and getting them soaking. In some cases, it's gathering the laundry or picking up the trash. But then I still have my moments like I did in this one where I just don't know where to put anything when there's such limited space and every square inch is covered with stuff!

No but, for real, I have days where I struggle with staying on top of things, but the days where my routine gets broken are absolute wreckers. Can't imagine doing all that AND THEN ADD 3 kids on top. And a surgery????
I do agree she should declutter a few things (less dishes = less time between having to wash them), but if the kids are doing fine, they are clean, they are loved, they are cared for with their mental health struggles and conditions (and there's no massive bug infestation), as far as I'm concerned, she's been doing a great job. Incredible clean! Respect to you. You can just see the layers of an overwhelmed mom, work, kids, doctors, everyday recycle of dinner, dishes, laundry, bills, extras and take the time to bake or do something you really want to do and other things pile up high and deep, she's only one person, but agree to get kids involved to help but when this overwhelmed, how to incorporate little by little? We all need a better system for inbetween running the gauntlet (a white water rafting term when running the worst of rapids, analogy of life) To how to have better systems in place as things change to manage this better rather than digging out all the time in whatever area it is, respect to this mom too for doing the best that she can everyday in these struggles of this season...God bless you and others that help with these seasons life. I never judge people by the conditions of their homes, because you never know what someone might be going through, BUT I really struggle when they let their dirty dishes pile up like that. If the dishes and laundry are able to pile up then you need to declutter some. I know when I reached out for help that’s what I asked for help with. So no judgement from me just a kindred soul sharing my story. ❤ great job I bet that mom really appreciated all your help.

    • @lia-liz2012
      @lia-liz2012 Рік тому +2

It's not judging but she DOES have issues that would make her not see things the way others do and it's definitely contributed to her illness. I personally can't let stuff get stuck on my dishes but she might not even think about it in her certain states of mind.

I actually believe there is some executive dysfunction going on here. I will talk a little bit more about that in next week's video, but it would make sense in this situation because I really don't think she is able to really "see" the mess as we do. I think a lot of the people that I help have executive dysfunction and it makes it really hard for them to keep on top of their homes. They definitely would benefit from a schedule and some decluttering.

    • @HereatJodstas

Definitely executive functioning saying you can’t leave dishes like that is judging. Overwhelming issues stop you from doing things. Lots of mental health issues underlying this. Like 1 travel mug, 1 Stanley water cup (and no other water bottles) 1 frying pan, 1 pot of each size (sm, med, lg), 1 whisk etc. Minimizing my cooking utensils means if I want to eat I HAVE to do dishes, this is HUGE in combating the ADHD.

Also, paper towels are better with greasy water/messes as reusable towels being rinsed will mess up plumbing/septic with grease plugs. Don’t heed the haters, you do great work.

An amazing job Bonnie, can't believe the difference. I absolutely love washing up but even I would baulk at the thought of doing 7 hours worth. Mind you I do love those squeaky noises the plates make when they're really clean. TFS - I'm now off to go finish off my kitchen, I've been doing bits all day then watching your videos 5 minutes at a time. The perfect motivation 😁

@@ABeautifulMessExtremeCle-zl1wp thank you for being part of the inspiration behind it! I must confess I did just watch your latest Mira's craft room video all it one go but I did then go and finish off the room I was working on. I found out late Thursday that we were having a home inspection on Tuesday as part of the process of adopting two kittens. I want to make a really good impression and even though it's something I've wanted to do since 2020, I'm still finding it really hard to get motivated (I think my brain hates me sometimes lol). Watching your videos in 5 minutes chunks is my reward for putting the work in even when I've started to feel overwhelmed. It has really motivated me so thank you. 😊

Before you leave a nasty comment, or give shady unsolicited advice, consider the fact that we are all human, and that we all go through dark times. When homes are like this, being disorganized or lazy is RARELY the reason for the mess. Some people watch videos like this, I swear, just to feel like they are better than others.

You did a wonderful job there. The house honestly didn't look tooooo bad, just like she needed a friend to help her with and some declutterering.
Btw on the paper towels, if covid taught me one thing it's that hygiene and environmentally friendliness unfortunately often don't go together. Paper towels were the right call here.

I’ll never understand why people who hate to wash dishes, let them pile up and get all hard and crusty! I love to wash dishes but only because I always let EVERYTHING soak first. Start the morning with a sink full of hot, soapy water and submerge everything. Then while you’re heating up your lunch in the microwave, wash those soaked dishes until the timer goes off,I usually get all the breakfast dishes done during a three minute reheat, BECAUSE THERE’S NO SCRUBBING NEEDED!!!!🙌🏻

Having fewer possessions forces you to clean them more regularly. For example, if you only have 5 water bottles and you use one per workday, you need to clean them at least once a week if you're going to have clean water bottles for the next week. Same goes for clothing, towels, etc. Having excess allows you to postpone cleaning-until it has developed into a massive "project" like this. A greatly simplified home with regular cleaning routines would also be beneficial to the son with autism. Clutter and chaos causes stress in autistic people.

I 100% agree with everything you have said. That's exactly how I manage stuff at my house. I can only do so much here because I'm not a therapist, but I always hope that they reduce the amount of items they own to make it easier for them to keep it clean.

Well, since she’s a single mom, she has a kid who’s autistic, other kids to take care of and the single mom has ADHD, then works. She doesn’t think about less clutter would be easier, maybe in her mind she can’t deal with a lot especially doing it all herself is hard. She probably buys something new and clean so she doesn’t have to think about cleaning, it’s easier for her. She’s overwhelmed, stressed and again, no one to help her everyday. Some people think they should live and be like them but they have no idea what that person is going through personally everyday. You can leave a message for on here, I’m sure she reads these comments. Let her know she needs to get rid of most of her water bottles and dishes so she can clean up more often. I’m sure she’ll thank you for pointing out how her home looks. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

First time watching and I gotta say I like your whole method of taking the dishes out to dry. The sun actually kills bacteria and that’s recommended to do once cleaning your wooden cutting boards is direct sunlight.
Secondly the whole paper towels. I like that you used that for your first time cleaning up the floors. Since it picks up all the bacteria and you said there was mold! Way to go on taking safe measures unconsciously 😉
Subscribed and looking forward to binge watching some of your videos while I clean too 🤗

Your relief from realizing there was mostly just water in the water bottles, haha.
Also, the way I look at it it's prioritizing your sanity over sustainability what with using that paper towel. I feel like people often don't realize how many extra steps it takes to be sustainable. And although sustainability has been kind of my obsession for a while, I now realize that sometimes trying to stay sane and functional means not being able to be sustainable for a bit.
The blinds and toaster look especially clean after, amazing!
