This song is the embodiment of being both happy and sad at the same time. You can't help but smile as you swallow the pill of sadness that sits in your throat.
I lived abroad for 13 years and the first evening I returned to Ireland, after a day of reuniting with relatives I stuck on the TV and the first thing I heard was Songs of Love as Father Ted came on, my eyes instantly filled with tears as the spine tingling rush of nostalgia kicked in and I felt like I was a little boy returning to my childhood.
To me this song perfectly represents the show. It's sorrowful yet upbeat wich mirror's Ted. He's unhappy being stuck pretty much permanently on the island but he tries to make the best of it and continues living as a priest. I love it
just seeing that picture of them all smiling including jack and knowing the fact that Dermot Morgan is no longer with us and also how it was one of the best shows gets me to me a little :D

@The Bros Pros Animations I know Dermot Morgan has passed on since 1998, when I made that comment Frank Kelly has just passed away. No need to get sour,
Beautiful!💜. The theme song brings a wee tear to my eye as it was my dad’s favourite show. He sadly passed away back in 2012. Watching reruns of this timeless Comedy was a great comfort at that devastating time of my life.Xxx
First heard this at the end of an episode and I loved it so much. That intro and how it breaks into the melody after a few bars. It's so gentle and peaceful and almost loving makes me smile because, in a way, you get to hear how the song was formed. Going from a few simple guitar strums and leading to that theme we all know and love. I've always been fond of intro's and outro's that do that sort of thing. They just keep playing a simple melody but it's so enchanting and peaceful and then it fades out almost as if the journey has continued for it into another land but it's ended for you.
I adore this show. I know it sounds kinda corny but hearing this theme just kinda gives me a sense like everything's gonna be ok. Not ideal. Not great. But ok.
@@maverickloggins5470 i watched this show at a very low part of my life when things looked grim. This show was one of the small but important thingw that helped me pull through and always made me feel ill do so and come out better as long as i kept marching. I’m watching the Winter Olympics ice skating and every time a boring song comes on I put this on up loud, makes it easier to watch then lol. Love Father Ted
I am a big old sitcom buff, and I really love the old English shows, including this one... When you watch these brilliant shows over and over you start to develop a weird sense that these characters and even the actors playing them are immortal. It's really sad that there's only 2 left from this bunch 😢 such a wonderful, perfect show...... thankfully Father Jack and Father Ted will love on in pop culture history FOREVER
Louis....I'm English, but I think Father Ted might possibly be Irish, not English and they can get a bit touchy about "that sort of thing" in Ireland. It did take a British production company to make Father Ted in the first place, and the Irish have been kicking themselves over that ever since. That's better than winning at rugby ( Seeing as the English rugby team is a bit rubbish these days and all that ! ) Best wishes and enjoy Father Ted. It's a gem to be treasured....whoever did it 👍
@@timhancock6626 Yes you're right Father Ted is very Irish....I could understand that, I think I said that because here in the US all of those shows are together on one streaming app (that I could NEVER live without!) Fecking legendary and funniest tv show I've ever seen, sad when I hear this knowing Dermot (Ted) and Jack are dead :( still fecking legendary and their legacies live on 🇮🇪
It's really sad... They were all having a party, because they'd finished the season... But dermot Morgan had a heart attack :,( Please correct me I'm wrong, that's what I was told anyways
@@shutupimtalking7794 massively late reply but he was hosting a dinner party the day after they finished recording and he had a heart attack unrecognised by his wife. they both assumed he was fine, he apologised at the dinner table and had a massive heart attack
I went to a father Ted celebration hosted by Joe Rooney (Father Damien, old grey whistle theft). It was amazing, I was the youngest in the audience. My dad and I dressed as priests and went with picket signs
He died 24 hours after recording the first episode... He was celebrating and hosting a dinner party, for the last episode. But died at his own dinner party :(
Hi, could I possibly use your extended version for a youtube video I am currently putting together? I was fortunate enough to visit the Father Ted house earlier this month and I filmed our time there. Your version of the theme tune would fit perfectly.
