I remember reading how expensive this game was to make, back in 2008 it was the most expensive game production at around $150 million and they more than doubled the production costs in sales. This was the first GTA game to use motion capture for cutscenes and ragdoll physics, they spent a lot of time (and money) getting all the details just right from high resolution satellite scans of New York. When you read about how much work went into this game, it's truly amazing to see a vibrant city with a constantly moving day and night cycle, with shifting dynamic weather patterns that affect the game environment. It still amazes me to this day.
yep, it was 2016 when I was first able to afford a pc that can play this gem with proper fps on full maxed out graphics. even those 8 years later, it was still amazing and actually way more fun than gta 5
I really do believe that Nico isn't dead and is just in hiding or living a different life somewhere else. He went to liberty City for one thing and when he got that one thing, there was nothing else for him besides his cousin and friends. I doubt we will see him in GTA 6 but I don't see a chance where we won't hear about him or even get a hint of what he's doing. Will we physically see him, no. But he's definitely still alive.

Being from former Yugoslavia, playing this game as a kid was everything. Suddenly everyone was playing a character from a country that nobody knew of. But I was so damn proud. The struggles he went through, his sacrifices and losses were so relatable. It was as if Niko Bellic was showing the world who and what we are. He made it in America. Now it’s my turn
Dam, after reading your comment I had to go see what you meant by former Yugoslavia, so I went read up a bit about it and bloody hell you guys had it rough. Sorry for what happened to your country and I hope you find peace and success in the states
Yugoslavia was a great nation that was ruined by Soviet aggression and pressure from greater powers to pick a side in the Cold War. After Tito died, incompetent rulers caused the country to collapse, that lead to a bloody war. The country was strong and United. It didn’t deserve what happened to it.
The greatest game ever I played. It's darkest GTA ever. There is no good endings for Niko. You choose Deal, Roman dies and Kate dumps you. You choose Revenge, Kate dies. Both sad. At the end, that would be very good if they make a scene where Niko is in Kate's/Roman's grave and in backstage that sad piano plays.
Yep I have a decent pc now with rtx I still play this game just to listen for this theme but it's just like 4 sec loading screen but back in 2015 when I have potato pc with core 2 duo the gta 4 loading screen loads about 4 min and i still sit there and listen to this masterpiece and now I miss those days.....
The tragic story of a Yugoslavian solider from Eastern Europe, who came to America looking for a better life and all the good fortune. Until, it turned out to be a living hell come true for him and his close friends. Timeless masterpiece. This theme has a dark story behind it.
im telling you man, the first time i heard the part at 1:47 it gave me chills because of how good it was, and to be honest, it still does. this is definitely my favorite Gta sound track of all time.
It still gives me chills to this day every time I hear that part. I remember the grand theft auto IV logo on the liberty city skyline while Niko was approaching the city on a boat. That was such an epic intro.
Imagine how Rockstar changed the "rules" in the period 2006-2008, look at GTA Vice City Stories (2006) graphics, and look at GTA IV (2008) graphics, that is amazing!
Such a great game, As a person who lives in NY, I recognized basically every single place in Liberty City. For 2008, that was some crazy attention to detail
That's why its my favorite grand theft auto. The recreation of NY was wild. Down to people having those sweaters where it was a skeleton back then. To the Puerto Rican flag shirts in South bronx. Great game
GTA San Andreas is an insanely enjoyable and fun game to play but when it comes to in game realism and quality story then GTA 4 is untouchable at the top
I played this game in the happiest years of my life. How I want to go back to my college years. No worries, no stress, almost no responsibilities. Listening to this song is extremely difficult for me as I instantly remember what I had, and what I've lost.
@@draxthedestroyer3384 It's because the college I went to was in the same city as my grandma and I lived with her during college years. I didn't have to worry about anything apart from my grades thanks to her. She was like a mom to me.
There's just this special feeling that GTA games have that I couldn't describe even if I wanted to, and I'm terrified it isn't going to be there anymore with GTA VI since Dan Houser and other vets left Rockstar after RDR2. I know most people make their own fun in these games, but I only really like the story mode, and I have a feeling it's going to be severely lacking without Dan's writing. Don't fool yourself into thinking "Don't worry, Dan probably wrote it before he left." I honestly don't think that's a guarantee. Dan was the king over there, and there had to be a big reason why he decided to leave, or perhaps he was ousted. Jason Schreier reported 2 years ago that Rockstar wanted to clean up their "frat boy culture." You know, they may have been "frat boys" at Rockstar, but those frat boys knew how to make the best games ANYWHERE. It just makes me think about how after Disney bought Star Wars from George Lucas, we found out years later after the atrocious sequel trilogy that Disney threw George's story treatments for Episodes 7, 8, and 9 in the trash. I guess they thought they could do it better, which is laughable. Will it be the same thing with GTA VI? God, I hope not.
For years Vice City was my favourite GTA. As I've got older and played the games more and understood the stories better, as much as I still adore Vice City, IV is just on another level. The characters, the upgraded Liberty City, gameplay, attention to detail, and especially the story. The way it connects with Lost And Damned and Ballad Of Gay Tony is absolutely incredible.
Its so dark and touching. When you play it long enough you evolve with Niko & you experience the pain he went through all this time. Such a masterpiece from Rockstar. GTA 5 is nowhere near interms of storyline. Graphics are better in GTA V but in terms of the physics and storyline GTA 4 is best ever
Also character development in 4 is far more better than in 5 like i feel like I could perfectly connect with any character in 4 and I love how the game makes you constantly understand that no one in the criminal world is good like during the gang war that LC is having you're playing on one side doing horrible things but then in the dlcs you play as "the other sides" and you understand that they're not so different from Niko after all....
For the people who don't know the story... There was a man named Niko Bellic (NB) (the guy in the picture above in the video)and he came to liberty city to search for a man who had betrayed him in the Yugoslavian war . Meanwhile he also had a cousin name Roman who had a taxi buisnses and a boss named Vlad . Niko did some work ( mostly threatning and killing people and also taxi stuff) for them and also finds a guy named Little jacob ( remember his name its gonna repeat a couple of times) . After some time he gets to know that his boss Vlad *badded Roman's GF Mallorie . After knowing this he goes and kills Vlad . After this Roman gets scared cause Vlad had connections with big gangsters (btw he also has a gf named Michelle ( Niko's GF) after that they both get kidnapped by that guy Vlad was working for Mikhail Faustin and his best friend Dimitri .But the thing was Dimitri wanted to kill Mikhail so he called NB and tolled hin about it . After that NB goes to the club where Mikhail is , but Mikhail is aware of that and tells NB how Dimitri and him was supposed to be brothers , later he silences MIkhail after a chase. Later Dimitri ( D ) calls him over to a ware house , by the time NB was going to the warehouse Little jacob gets to know that and asks him to come with NB and he agrees. (im tired for now i'll write the other part tommorow)
Dimitri: ТВОЮ МАТЬ... ВЫЙ МОРЖОЛЫЙ!!! (F**K YOU, YOU D**K!!!) Niko: Speak English. "YOU KILLED YOUR BEST FRIEND. YOU BETRAYED EVERYONE WHO EVER CAME IN CONTACT WITH YOU. YOU KILLED MY COUSIN!!!"
Played this as a kid, never understood why it is considered 'Dark' ? As a Mature Teenager, I did. 1. Niko's terrible experience with war 2. Roman being Blackmailed by Russians 3. Dimitri's true personality 4. Manny and the Cameraman being harvested 5. Terrorists 6. Derrick selling out his former friends 7. Francis having his own brother killed 8. Drugs still being a problem 9. Gerry starting a Mob War between Albanians and Ancelottis 10. Packie's best friend being shot to death 11. Bernie being Blackmailed 12. Luca's crew stealing from the Pegs 13. Ancelottis daughter being kidnapped 14. Pegorino having his own adopted son killed 15. Roman/Kate dying at the end Edit: I realize I left a rather cringe reply, but I'll keep it. Edit 2: I can't honestly pin point what was the darkest point in GTA 4.
Don’t forget when you go out on dates with Kate she talks about how her brothers were molested by their father (Packie and Gerald) hinting that Gerald was the one that killed their father because of it. When you get drunk with Kate she talks about how she knew but stayed quiet and thinks everything is her fault. That was probably the most darkest shit ever. Their family gets destroyed the only ones left are packie and his mom, but I’m pretty sure after Kate’s death the mom doesn’t last long.
Also Romans mom was raped and killed and niko tells Kate that he found her and hid that from roman, and that he still doesn’t know about it. I replayed this shit recently it’s crazy how our child minds just ignore all this stuff.
Best GTA ever and one of the best games ever created but some of yall are sleeping ! And the music itself have so much presence and identity ! Master piece !
In late 2008, I saw the gameplay of GTA IV online for the first time, two of my neighbors and my brother were playing at the airport map in game. Those days were great. It will never be repeated.
Physics, story, culture background and gaming design was better in this game than in the others, a masterpiece! The idea of an immigrant's story like this in 2008 Is Great
"After" GTA 6? Lmao. It's hilarious how all these nostalgia-ridden contrarians are acting like GTA VI is a foregone conclusion. We haven't even heard the theme song and already attention-seekers come with this inane "there's no way GTA 6's theme will be this good!" nonsense. All we've seen is a general overview of the setting and a few hints regarding the protagonists, just like the initial trailers for IV and V. I'll never understand this rabid desire of so-called "fans" to immediately denounce anything new. You want GTA IV, go and play it; expecting Rockstar to release the same game over and over again is futile, because it's not gonna happen. The vast majority of people _appreciate_ change and evolution, not stagnation and repetition (as demonstrated recently with Bethesda's sickeningly milquetoast "Starfield").

Best gta in my opinion. Story. Character development. Music. Gameplay. Fighting and mechanics. Everything mastered.
The gunplay wasn’t perfect though

Its so dark and touching. When you play it long enough you evolve with Niko & you experience the pain he went through all this time. Such a masterpiece from Rockstar. GTA 5 is nowhere near interms of storyline. Graphics are better in GTA V but in terms of the physics and storyline GTA 4 is best ever
Also the ballad of gay Tony and the lost and damed are so good
Agreed
Also character development in 4 is far more better than in 5 like i feel like I could perfectly connect with any character in 4 and I love how the game makes you constantly understand that no one in the criminal world is good like during the gang war that LC is having you're playing on one side doing horrible things but then in the dlcs you play as "the other sides" and you understand that they're not so different from Niko after all....
GTA 5 is the better game overall, way more fun. Storyline in 5 is still amazing
@@AverageAlien gta 4 maybe is not realistic but gta 5 is more acarde not better, is fun in a distint way
For the people who don't know the story...
Later Dimitri ( D )
calls him over to a ware house , by the time NB was going to the warehouse Little jacob gets to know that and asks him to come with NB and he agrees.

15. Roman/Kate dying at the end
Edit: I realize I left a rather cringe reply, but I'll keep it.
Edit 2: I can't honestly pin point what was the darkest point in GTA 4.
Add soviet connections
Wait I forgot about manny and the cameraman :(

All we've seen is a general overview of the setting and a few hints regarding the protagonists, just like the initial trailers for IV and V.
I'll never understand this rabid desire of so-called "fans" to immediately denounce anything new. You want GTA IV, go and play it; expecting Rockstar to release the same game over and over again is futile, because it's not gonna happen.
