Don’t buy anything. There are so many Sony fanboys out there who claim that Sony is the best, but their products are not reliable. They don’t take responsibility for their product issues and blame it on something else.
I know a guy who works in sony service, and the answer for your question is…both ( First to blame is a wifi/bt chip. It’s overheating and sometimes may kill main processor (some people can face it from dead hdmi output). They made a new chip, but didn’t say anything in public and just simply sended a new one to the service guys. The second known problem is audio chip. It may die just out of the blue. And the fun fact - boards with new audio chip didn’t work with technical calibration software without update. And of course there is a huge software problems. I’ve recently trying to update my camera to 3.0.2 and it’s bricked in a process… thanks to reddit I’ve get through this(my service guy said I may need to replace mainboard completely...) Sometimes audio may died because of firmware issue and grey service can fix it. yesterday my friend with fx3 complained that his camera have system error messages after powering on for 3-5 seconds. He managed to restore it to factory setting, and now camera working fine. But still… sony have to clean up this mess, or everybody will go forward to nikon with internal raw recording…
I hope Sony is working on making firmware updates that will finally make our cameras work perfectly. But also retrofit the cameras. For example the animal eye AF in video mode on the a1. Or focus stacking. Or pre-capture.
@@Fotografie85 Maybe... if they stop taking the pills and face a real world... I've asked them “why there is no 25fps option in h265 codec”, they say “this codec made for owners Sony Bravia TV, there is no need for 25 fps...”
This is a firmware issue. The thing about bad firmware updates is that once they have been applied there is no going back. (re: Sonos recent debacle). SO, NO SHITZ SONY!!!...the main pcb has a "USB" issue BECAUSE YOUR POORLY VETTED UPDATE RECONFIGURED THE FIRMWARE TO A POINT OF NO RECOVERY...THIS IS ALL ON YOU SONY. THANKS FOR NOTHING...
Please contact Gerald Undone, his exposure would force Sony to listen and he seems like the kind of guy to help you out (and thereby help all the other Sony customers [including myself]) ???
There is another dude that had his fx3 updated and ended up frying his wifi chip They quoted him actually 715$ claiming it's a board issue. After he made a detailed video and started questioning their reps. He got the special red carpet treatment where they offered to fix his wifi chips for 235$. He posted about the manner daily with proof that the update broke his wifi features and caused freezing, but the only thing he uncovered that Sony uses custom murata chips that on some early batches get fried after the update that boosts the voltage on all units to overload features, this proves that Sony rolls out updates that aren't well tested on all camera body versions. Not all of us are UA-camrs that get the special kind of treatment. Been catching a lot of used recent Sony bodies listings in my area. The best thing here is for people to start jumping ships. Heard good things about the Panasonic s5iix. Also L mount is starting to get a variety of awesome fast zoom lenses.
I've been considering dropping US$4K on the new Z200 camcorder but now I'm re-considering that in light of all the A7S3 firmware upate horror-stories I'm seeing.
I am also having problems with my A7Siii. It will randomly get stuck in recording mode and then locks out all functions. If I try to turn the camera off then on again it goes to a black screen, but still shows some of my settings. Recording, menu, etc.. will not work. The only way to fix is to remove the battery. This is frustrating as I use my camera in an underwater housing while diving, so when it locks up, I can no longer record until the dive is over. I cannot even seem to contact Sony as they are very difficult to contact via support. I keep getting an error when trying to create a ticket. Do you have a phone number or email for Sony camera support? I am running firmware version 3.02. The locking up was happening with version 2.11 as well.... So frustrating.
I also had this after buying the new a1 with firmware 1.32 I recommend waiting to see whether new firmware from Sony works better. Probably September 12th... And October firmware.
Scary and depressing, especially given that the A7sIII was a near-perfect camera when I bought it. I lost the ability to use mine as a webcam with 3.0; now I'm not even going near 3.01 and 3.02! Please keep us updated on whether this does get fixed. This is mad; how the £$%^&* did installing a few basic changes result in this chaos!?
@@TomWadeCine Not so baffled myself: it's obvious that they're potentially exposed to enormous levels of liability for these firmware issues; thousands of cameras might need to be replaced. It's also questionable whether they might be liable for consequential loss from creators who lose-out on jobs as a result of suddenly not having a $3.5k camera that's been serving them for three years. The issue is that the expertise required to prove that the firmware has caused the issue would be very rare and then the resources to mount a legal challenge would be vast, and at that point they would've just given you a free replacement or something just to head you off, after all that trouble.
@@TomWadeCine Did you try to back to the previous working version where all this elements works ? - this would confirm that it is a software problem and not hardware.
Also one problem is the cultural origins of Sony come from ancient Samurais. The absolutism of other-worldly focused thought and self-direction (not influenceable by proponents not perceived to be in alignment) - doesn't leave an entity that can really be influenced. Sometimes it plays out for good, other times....
Did you follow Sony's recommended sequence to update? Important precautions for updating from Ver. 2.11 or earlier Update order: Ver. 2.15 → Ver. 3.01 → Ver. 3.02
Same happened to me back in ‘22 with the A1. One day it just decided Wi-Fi wouldn’t work anymore. Didn’t do anything to it, it just sat on its tripod (turned off) overnight. Called Sony, they said “we’ve never heard of that before, too bad it’s out of warranty, that’ll be a 3,000 dollar repair” and of course once I Google it I see plenty of other people talking about the same issue. Sony should be recalling these products but they won’t because they know they can get away with it.
This recently happened to me with my A1. The new updates were good at the beginning, only after 8 weeks of taking photos after the update 2.02 did the Bluetooth module decide to stop its services, simply overnight. What the hell is going on?!!!! And yes, strangely enough, no one knows about this problem, but it's rife!! Shit firmware!!! Sony promised a major firmware, we were happy, but it destroys the mainboard!!!!
Seems like you are not alone. If a camera is working fine and then a bunch of hardware breaks after a firmware update, there is zero chance they aren’t connected. They sold a TON of cameras so I’m sure they’re overwhelmed with repair requests right now. I hope they fix all these issues for free. If they don’t, they are going to lose a lot of future business.
Paper weight. I ordered the C400. I'm gonna sell one of my C70's when it gets here. Lemme know if you want a deal on the C70 fully rigged minus the lens.... that you already have.
Sony did this shit to me with my headphones . The firmware effed up my battery and only one side works. I will never update my fx3 or any sony products.
Honestly, this is affecting the FX3s as well, other youtubers are reporting it. If Sony continues to fry its customers cameras with firmwares, everybody's gonna switch. Keep reporting it on UA-cam and people will jump ship. That's what Sony deserves...
My expensive and new A1 worked before these updates, even with 2.01. Since I don't have a computer, I use the app, in this case the Creators app. I was so happy back then that Sony was finally improving the A1! But the animal eye AF in the video is still missing on a €7300 camera! Then I updated to 2.02 via the app and now my Bluetooth and WiFi no longer work! It's ironic, Sony should have fixed this exact problem with 2.01!!!!!! Sony support hardly understands you, they sometimes don't even know that there is an A1, then they say it's a hardware defect, even though it was still working before the update. I won't be doing this with Sony much longer. I enjoyed the A1 so much that it is still one of the best after almost 4 years, but Sony simply destroys it, including the A7SIII!!!!!! No recall from Sony, no identification of all serial numbers and batches, Sony is letting us down. Sony also doesn't explain what exactly caused the problem. Nothing....
I made the switch to Canon, tired of Sony doing this. Even the Sony flash I have over heats after 20 to 25 shots. Happy with my Canon R6 and the Flashpoint flash.
If this doesn't get resolved, I think I'll be getting the C400 and saying goodbye to Sony. It's sad because I was planning on getting the FX6 ii to pair with the a7S3.
I had the same issue. Updated my firmware. Suddenly camera was bricked. Camera refused to updated To the latest 3.01 firware and sony told me they had to replace the board. $1000 later the camera is working again. It was perfectly fine before I updated the firmware then it all went south. Only upside was that the borrowed me an a1 for two weeks....
Sir, I am facing the same problem after updating my Sony lens, it is working as well as the other lenses, can you tell me the solution to this problem?
*I went from 2.11 for a year where i had to turn off and on many times to get it into record mode, to the next update up and now it won't let me do a fast on and off to get rid of a camera error, seems to be bricked*
This is sonys new update policy. Create win margins with faulty firmware updates! They claim „the problem was already existing, they now show it to you with the new Firmware“ Surprisingly after 2 years of warranty. My sony a7s3 and my 2 sony a1 would be affected. They offer you a 700€ mainboard replacement for each camera. It‘s the first time I really need think carefully if I want to upgrade each of my camereas to the upcoming new generations. Not sure if I can trust this company anymore. Maybe it‘s time to stand up and sue Sony. Selling faulty products. Only showing to you after more than 2 years so you can not make use of the warranty
that was my problem with it too. If the hardware was faulty to begin with, why was it brought to our attention 2 years later and outside the warranty with a new update? Keep in mind, camera was also working fine... lol
Sad to hear, Sony are normally a really good camera brand. Its GoPro that I have totally lost trust with. If you want a camera that loves to freeze, stop recording, or just go totally off line get a GoPro.
There really should be a rollback feature with these updates. The word "update" is such a self explanatory term, but companies like Fuji and Sony seem to use it as a testing ground and break things. It really just feels like after the glowing reviews in year 1 of the product, everything is just a random menagerie of thing to "update" the camera with. The best case scenario at this point is if you update and literally nothing happens.
I don’t know about the rest of your problems, but I think your microphone problem is caused by a bad hot shoe. The camera thinks it has the hot shoe microphone plugged in all the time. That’s why the 3.5 jack and your internal mic are not working. I was looking into updating the firmware on my A7S3, but I think I will leave it alone. Sony needs to fix these cameras that got bricked by updating the firmware. I’ll be keeping my eye on Sony, and if they don’t own up to the problem, I won’t be buying any more Sonys. It’s going to be pretty hard to sell a new A7S4 or FX4, if your old camera quit working after you upgraded the firmware.
Hello, I’m experiencing the same issue as you. Do you know, please, if the Sony XLR-K3M Kit module works despite the audio problem? I have an important event coming up. Thank you in advance, and I hope everything will work out for you.
I recently updated my Sony FX3, and now both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi have stopped working. If Bluetooth is on, I get an error message, and the camera goes into an indefinite boot loop. The camera has only about 15 hours of use in total, but since I bought it a year and a half ago, it's out of warranty. Sony is telling me it's most likely a hardware issue, and they're insisting I send it to their repair center in the UK, where I'll have to pay around £800 to fix the problem. It's frustrating because this seems to be a result of their firmware update, but instead of standing by their customers, they're just trying to profit from the situation. It's really disappointing.
Tyvm for the video. I was about to update my Firmware but I make sure to do some research. Glad I fou s your video. I am very new to knowin' how to even use the Sony Aiv I have and I bought a second lol. I am gettin' put of the professional earin' thang and into Outdoors. Appreciate it and I will check your Food channel out. Sorry you are havin'all these issues. Hope they get it fixed soon
At this point I feel like they should get sued!!! Its DISGUSTING what they are doing with these BUGGY updates! Thank God im not experiencing any of this but this is scary man!!! What the hell is going on with these updates!!!
We were so looking forward to the updates that Sony would get even better. I had paid almost 7800.- for the A1 and now this!!!! I don't own the A7SIII, but it was one of the best film cameras and now this disaster!!! The A7IV came about 8 months after the A1 and doesn't have such problems! It's also incomprehensible that Sony calls the A1 The One and doesn't even give it the animal eyes AF in the video! Simply catastrophic!!!😡😡😡
This is what these companies do not understand that there is competition out there so if you don't provide solid service your customers will go elsewhere. I too am no fanboy l shoot Canon and bag the crap out of them but when it comes to service my cameras are repaired and returned quickly.
DO NOT INSTALL 3.02 ...IMMEDIATELY AFTER INSTALLING 3.02, THE A7IV COULD NO LONGER CONNECT TO MY MACBOOK. Sony said...we'll take care of it. Send it to Precision Camera. NOW, Precision Camera is trying to charge me over $600 ..."usb issue on main pcb...BULL-LONEY. The camera literally worked perfectly up until the day I installed 3.02. (Also: did it in camera with Creator's App. It was a mistake using Creator's App)...3.02 broke the camera's ability to access mass storage. BTW The camera is 16 months old. This "quality and customer service" I can do without.
Sony now has basically told me there is no way to prove a firmware update broke my camera and told me to basically go pound sand. 😢 very disappointed with Sony. In other news, put in my order for a c400 and c80. Over 15k of my hard earned money is going canon. Was waiting for the fx3 and fx6 to come out but after this, won’t be giving Sony anymore of my money.
@@Fotografie85 Sorry to hear about your a1 :( While I could live with taking out the card(s) whenever I needed to look at the images I do not want to have to settle for less than what I paid for...a fully functioning camera. I also have concerns about not fixing it. I am not sure if the camera will connect if I need to do a lens update (which is done through the camera) I suppose if that happens I could go to a Sony retailer/repair and see if they would do it...BTW: while casually looking at other Sony cameras I notices Sony's ad to get an extra year of warranty if I registered a new camera with Sony. I registered my 24-70 GMII, but apparently Sony did not have the offer for the camera in April 2023. However, it made me think about the credit card extended warranty benefit( Double the original 12)...looked into it. Filed a claim. They will advise the status of the claim on Friday (end of this week). tbd
@@jnystrom1237 The firmware 3.0 for the a1 will be released in October and I hope that the problems have disappeared. The A7SIII also gets the shutter angle in October.
That is absolutely horrible! Perhaps you can send it in and see what they could do. I’ve seen another UA-camr who had the same problem with his FX3. He sent it in and found out that he had a bad circuit board, or something like that. The updated firmware made it harder for the camera to keep up and so it continued failing.
I have the a7siii and have updated along the whole way. I have none of these problems. To me it sounds like a hardware failure that just coincidently happened during a firmware update
But multiple different hardware failures completely separate from one another after each update? If so, Sony should cover it because the camera was fine before. Loosing audio made it clear to me, this is a bug in the firmware.
@@TomWadeCine why you don't check it by uploading old firmware version ? - If the problem is with the processor or the bus, it can affect many of the components it controls. Upload old firmware and check...
Can be a faulty component that got integrated for a certain timeframe and prior or posterior the part can be in perfect condition, happens all the time in electronics even back in commodore c64 times ( faulty chip for diskdrive transfer making it slow as hell ) or the soundchip change, and only appears when firmware accesses a part of the circuit that wasn’t used before , now legally a problem is to prove sony knew they where defective or only realised it with the latest update.
Exactly why I do not usually update unless there is something I cannot live with out. I have an A7IV that has overheated since day one and drives me crazy but I will never update to any new firmwares. I obviously got a DUD A7IV. But nothing I can do about it. It over heats even in Mild conditions. Sorry to hear about your problems and hope they work it out for you which I doubt. Sony is Horrible about things like this.
It’s interesting, my A7IV does really well not overheating (and I live in Phoenix lol), granted I don’t record long form. However, I’ve only updated my firmware the first time since I purchased it well over a year ago. Only mic I have is a Rode Videomicro and it’s never worked on it (works beautifully with my Fuji X-S20). Anyway, I’m WAY too paranoid to EVER update the firmware on my Sony!
@@pancakelens75 Yes I know, I live in South America in a really dry country and nothing like Florida type weather or nothing humid and hot. I am sure I got a Dud because it seems to be hit or miss with the over heating issues with the A7IV. I usually shoot 60p 4K 95% of the time which doesn't help but nothing Long by any means at all. I usually shoot in burst of 10-15 minutes max and getting overheating quite bit, even indoors in studios. Forget about outdoors with the Sun hitting the black body which absorbs heat even more. I can NEVER imagine filming with my camera somewhere like florida in the summer or any tropical hot and humid location. I am a professional and work 100% filming videos all week usually. I really everything else about the A7IV and actually find the image and autofocus better then the FX3 I had beforehand. My only gripe besides cropped 60p , which I can deal with with wider lenses, is the overheating.
@@shueibdahir yes I know and there is a small rig one as well. Not the solution I was hoping for, but will most likely get an FX30 or FX3 soon. Trying to wait and see if DJI brings something better to the table here soon!!!
Me again I have an A1 with similar problems.firmware 2.01 broke my WiFi 2.02 worked 1 times for 30 seconds and then stopped no wi-fi.I have initialised the camera several times, nothing improved.Contacted Sony out if warranty I need to return it to dealer and pay for repair.I bought it in Switzerland now live in Portugal, so we can forget that. Was told wi-fi module would need replacing.I will never buy another Sony product. If I hadn't invested I. So much GM glass I'd sell it tomorrow,I'm hanging on to it but will be buying a replacement from another brand.Hope Dji will launch a digital camera soon.I needed a mini 3 pro repaired, sent it to france and it was beyond economic repair so they sent me a new one, total cost around 125€ turnaround 10 days, incredible service.
So I also have the a1. After the firmware update 2.02, my Bluetooth and WiFi stopped working after about 6 weeks. But I'm waiting for new firmware. I can't imagine that it was broken by firmware 2.02. Bought in Switzerland too, previously with 2.01 and 1.32 WiFi and Bluetooth worked.
Fortunately for my unit after updating 3.02 firmware all my issues from 3.00 especially the crappy AF which was unusable all gone! With my current update my unit is better and faster. I wish it stays as is! All my ports are working fine including the 3.5mm input. I am sad that this happened to you Tom. How I wish all A7s3 units worldwide are consistently manufactured.
Damn dude this is messed up. Sony can’t possibly be serious. I wonder What Phillip Bloom has to about this. I’m so glad I haven’t upgraded my a7siii yet. 😅 but I’m sorry you’ve had to go through this.
Thanks for the info. I’ll hold off from updating. I’m usually quite late updating and feel like I miss out but I guess it’s a good thing this time 🤷♂️ but sorry to hear all issue your having.
I think that's a smart move to hold off for now. It seems like everyone is rolling the dice based on their camera manufacture date. Thanks for the kind words. Cheers.
Yup my camera is fucked…the most reliable auto focus I’ve ever had. Before the update I could easily pull off complex high speed tracking shots & now it can’t even keep a stationary talking head interview in focus.
When you think of a company like Apple that has occasionally seen issues from latest firmware ( batterygate ) updates but do at least fix there issues quickly with another update, I have updated firmware ever since Apple I phone 4 and update every app weekly generally without issue. How Sony fixes this or there are going to be a lot of used camera for sale.

I'm looking forward to new firmware for my FX30 in September which adds shutter angle. I hope it doesn't bring along issues like these. Does Sony even test their firmware updates before shipping?
My A7S3 had the wife Bluetooth malfunction issue. Luckily I had extended warranty and sent it in for repairs. 2.5 months later, costing over $1000 i get my camera back, V3.02. Seems to be working okay for now. But I will be wary of buying anymore Sony cameras. This is total BS! If Blackmagic incorporated autofocus into their cameras, I'd sell my a7s3. Blackmagic have been amazing with their support, My pocket 4k still gets updates and each update makes it better.
I was really upset about this incident, I also updated my a7rv camera and the next day Sony removed the new update from the site, after the update I have no problem, but because I work with the camera, I am worried that there might be a problem with the camera. I will not choose Sony for my next camera.
I got the wifi issue in a7s3 before, (firmware 2.11) I send it to Sony Service Centre, problem fix. (Sony said it is firmware issue, so they just do the hard reset and send it back to me)
Manufacturers are really disgusting these days. They know they can do these things as they're holding a semi monopoly especially if you're all in that ecosystem. Hope you get that issue sorted.
I notice a blue cable which might be a sennheiser mic.I know it switches on automatically when connected to the camera? Maybe test another 3.5mm mic which has a battery and see what happens ? Just a thought I'm no expert.
It seems to be based on the build dates. If its an older camera, they arent handling the updates well. It could also be they arent testing these updates before rollong them out
Seems like it but I think Sony knew the hardware was faulty or would break on earlier cameras with the firmware update. They should have disclosed that. Lack of transparency from Sony is very troubling.
i updated both my a7siii to 3.00. the only issue i'm having is on one of the 3rd party lenses i have; the auto-focus is constantly hunting. luckily, it's not one of my "main" lenses. since updating, i've been leery of updating to 3.01 or 3.02. i've been super paranoid after hearing of all the issues people are having. this is literally our livelihood, so i can't afford the risk.
Ok. I never looked at the issue I am having in regards to it being a firmware issue. So I have added the FX3 XLR handle to my A7S iii. I put in headphones to the audio jack on the camera to monitor the sound coming through the XLR. I can hear nothing through the headphones. I thought my headphones were not working. Does putting in headphones cancel the recording process from the XLR handle or am I supposed to be able to monitor levels with the jack being utilized while recording!?!? Because if that’s the case, and I AM supposed to be able to do that, I now have and audio jack issue as well…that I did not know about. Smh
@@TomWadeCine I bought some new headphones and toyed around with it the past 24 hours and it did work. The fact that we got left behind in the updates, compared to the FX3, and the new issues that are clearly due to the firmware, I have been very disappointed in Sony. Sorry to hear about your issues. I hope they do the right thing and fix it at no cost.
Silly idea but can't you just reset completely your system and have it again with the software and firmware that you bought it?...isn't a way to downgrade it or just re-install the old firmware?...I suppose no...that's a shame...😢😮
@@TomWadeCine that sucks...I mean a repair shop can do it , they can flush the flash and re-install the software...but has to be a repair shop that has access to sony softwares for cameras...an official sony repair shop...but sony client service sucks big time if they demand around 2000 just for this...in my opinion is no hardware issue just software issue and the firmware broke the connection tunnels / ports and commands of different connections connectors...
I had a similar freezing issue with my A7IV right after I bought it second-hand. Exactly the same as you describe: randomly happening anywhere from 10s and 10mn. Then I found out that this happenned only if it was connected to a device as PC Remote, so my smartphone through bluetooth or by cable on my gimbal. I made a couple of videos and reddit posts about it, reached out to Sony, they also said it was a hardware issue, luckily it was still in warranty, they changed the mother board and now everything is good since. I'm now extensively trying my camera too because I just updated to 3.02 as well and I have a 4 days event to film this week end... But my assumption is that the early batches were using different mother boards, and there for, they aren't compatible with more recent version of the firmware 🤔 So it needs to be replace, or to not be upgraded. The issue is that Sony doesn't want to admit that and we have no way to know which batch we have if there is no official announcement with serial numbers etc :/ I'll keep you updated if my A7IV with the new mother board shows any of the issues you describe 🙏
@@TomWadeCine So I’ve been running 1 continuous recording until battery depleted in 25p, then I plugged to the gimbal and ran another full battery in 4k 60p. Both were successful and audio working. Sorry that you have to go through that but maybe you can push Sony to admit it’s a faulty unit and get it fixed even without warranty 🤔
@@TomWadeCine can you name a new feature that you have acquired in a firmware update that absolutely changed the game on your camera? If it was an amazing camera out of the box, what have they done to improve it with firmware updates? Has it ever updated it’s video capabilities? Or does it still have the same video specs as when you bought it? It had amazing auto focus out of the box right? So why bother?
Technically it is a hardware failure, but it was caused by the new firmware, the newly released firmware that supposedly should fix the problem, is just firmware without the "planned obsolescence" in it, but what has been done to the camera is done, the hardware is fried and no firmware can fix it, it's just preventing people to install the faulty firmware. In the end, we all have to pay for the hardware replacement at sony's fault, because most of those cameras are out of warranty, unless certain influencers whose video gets a lot of attention, they are not going to do anything about it.
In another video who has a similar problem with his FX3, the Sony rep responded that the new firmware has "increased performance of anomaly detection" and the hardware failure is highlighted by this feature, come on Sony, this is bare-bone planned obsolescence without saying the word. So you have a perfectly working camera for whatever hundreds or thousands of hours, but it's actually broken, it's just the camera did not give you an error code on the screen, at the meantime your WIFI, and Bluetooth function are already dead even when you are using it just fine, the chip is already fried, we just haven't pointed it out to you yet. What a joke
@@POVwithRC It's not how they do "planned obsolescence" 20 or 40 years ago, but the goal is the same, they just don't have to do this when they built it, when companies can implement updates anytime in the future to affect how a piece of tech to perform, it's just more advanced "planned obsolescence", you can say I'm paranoid, I'll say customers are not very sensitive to those kind of things, it's business, and business is more often uglier than people think
Have to tried installing an older firmware where you didn't have any issues? I saw a video with a fuji-shooter and he had some focus issues and the rollback fixed those problems for him, so maybe it would also work for you?
I heard some people are having serious issues with their fx3 after upgrading to the largest firmware. Sony said that this was due to defective electronics parts, not due to an firmware upgrade. Whether that is true or not that is an separate topic. .Wonder if the issue is due to hardware being faulty to a degree? If you were using this camera in daily basis since it came out, lets say 3-4 f years, i imagine thay just like any electronics or electronics device, many of its parts have a lifespan, and it is not out of question for it to break since those camera were not really designed with very long mileage in mine like the cinema line : fx6 or fx9 for nexample. It really sucks that the camera started to go south after you updated it.if the issue is motherboard related, the repair can cost around $400 plus shippping. If enough people complain about, that will be the only way sony will care to do anything to address the issue in the form of a new less buggy Firmware.
What makes me think it’s a firmware issue is the fact that with each update something else failed. The onboard mic and 3.5mm jack failure makes it clear that this is a bug in the firmware. It literally worked fine before. Let’s say it is a hardware issue, at this point, it’s multiple hardware and component failure. Sony should cover it. Thanks, I appreciate you reaching out. I sure do hope Sony does something because this was an amazing camera.
@@TomWadeCine If I was in your place, I would send it to Sony for a estimate, and if it is fair to you then it will make sense to pay for the repair rather waiting for Sony to try to address the issue if they determine it is in fact related to a buggy firmware. Per my experience with this type of issues, even if it is manufacturer issue affecting "some (Ex: 1/1000)" cameras, most company will not take responsibility unless it become a broader problem in which hundreds of UA-camr start complain about it. Wish you the best I hope you can get it repair even if it just to sell it to recover some of you money back or buy a different camera brand.
The theory is Sony made these buggy updates because they will announce their next lines this coming 28 August. So they are actually destroying our cameras so we will buy the newer ones
@@TomWadeCine yeah. Me too. I use my Sony A7S3 a lot and I dont want to upgrade anytime soon. I havent updated my Sony to a new firmware but I had to send it to Sony for repair as the sensor had hot pixels all over the place.

I feel the same way with the A1! The Bluetooth module has been defective since firmware 2.01/2.02! Sony says hardware defect, but actually the firmware is to blame! It worked before. With cameras this expensive! It's one disaster after another!!!
That’s ridiculous. Then the question is if it truly is hardware issues, how is it acceptable that Sony has failure with so many expensive cameras! I’m so sorry to hear you are also experiencing issues.
@@TomWadeCine No, this is not a hardware problem, my A1 is as good as new, I had updated from 1.32 to 2.01, the time before Bluetooth and WiFi always worked, since I don't have a computer, I transferred the pictures directly to the iPhone with the old one app. Now the A1 has been rendered unusable for me. Bluetooth still worked until August 12th, I had even updated to 2.02 with the Creators app beforehand, then the Bluetooth failed afterwards. I've been researching for a long time now and it's been like this for a lot of A1 customers around the world, right from the start, so since the end of March with 2.0 for the A7SIII and the A1. According to Sony, with 2.01 only the network connection was fixed, but not Bluetooth! what the hell is going on with the software developers and programmers at Sony?!!!! We were so excited about the updates that the cameras will finally be provided with new and good functions! But the A1 still lacks animal eye AF in the video and pre-capture and focus stacking!!!! These are software things that do not require an AI chip and the A1 has enough computing power for that! The A1 got the best hardware that Sony had available on the market in 2021!! We expect this camera to work for 6 years without any problems! I've owned the A1 for less than 2 years and it has never been in the rain and has always been treated with extreme care, I haven't even been able to use 50% of its performance. No, as I said, the hardware is actually fine. Also, the fact that the A7SIII was made a mess is just horrible. I don't know what to do at the moment, Sony support doesn't seem to know anything about it either. I hope Sony manages to program a decent firmware for the A7SIII and for the A1 and to improve these cameras via updates in the future!!! Why does a 7800.- camera not have animal eye AF???????
Oh man, discouraging, was about to update my a7S3 to 3.02 from 3.0 (saw yer 3.01 vid) to rectify Bluetooth & WiFi connectivity issues but now not interested in rolling the dice. Also will not update my FX3 either. Leaving to shoot in the Philippines next week so glad I didn’t get caught out, thx for the heads up. 👊🏼
Sounds like someone didn’t read the directions when updating because I know it was confusing for me but if you skipped 2.15 before skipping to 3.0 this is probably what happens. I think you need to send it to the manufacturer.
Do you think this is a hardware or software issue. Leave me a comment below.
Don’t buy anything. There are so many Sony fanboys out there who claim that Sony is the best, but their products are not reliable. They don’t take responsibility for their product issues and blame it on something else.
I know a guy who works in sony service, and the answer for your question is…both (
First to blame is a wifi/bt chip.
I’ve recently trying to update my camera to 3.0.2 and it’s bricked in a process… thanks to reddit I’ve get through this(my service guy said I may need to replace mainboard completely...)
Sometimes audio may died because of firmware issue and grey service can fix it.
yesterday my friend with fx3 complained that his camera have system error messages after powering on for 3-5 seconds.
100%
There is another dude that had his fx3 updated and ended up frying his wifi chip
They quoted him actually 715$ claiming it's a board issue.
Also L mount is starting to get a variety of awesome fast zoom lenses.
in my case, it would be bluetooth/wifi, audio, and possibly processor replacement... might as well get a new camera. lol
This is SO disappointing, how can I trust in buying future Sony cameras with this BS 😢
I had to call them and it was pretty disappointing. They will tell you it's a hardware issue and to send it in for a repair quote.
I also had this after buying the new a1 with firmware 1.32
I recommend waiting to see whether new firmware from Sony works better.
Probably September 12th... And October firmware.
Shame on Sony
Definitely not updating my camera
Scary and depressing, especially given that the A7sIII was a near-perfect camera when I bought it. I lost the ability to use mine as a webcam with 3.0; now I'm not even going near 3.01 and 3.02! Please keep us updated on whether this does get fixed. This is mad; how the £$%^&* did installing a few basic changes result in this chaos!?
It’s truly baffling to me and the lack of accountability with Sony.
So glad I haven’t updated any other f my sony cameras!! Fx 6 , 2 fx30’s, a7s3,a6400
Why don't you publish the serial numbers? It may help to identify a bad batch.
I’m still on version 2 because of all the stories I keep hearing. Which sucks. If they don’t fix these issues I’m jumping over to Canon.
2.11 or earlier
Update order: Ver. 2.15 → Ver. 3.01 → Ver. 3.02
Yes I did
Same happened to me back in ‘22 with the A1.
I hope so too. I loved this camera.
Paper weight.
I ordered the C400. I'm gonna sell one of my C70's when it gets here. Lemme know if you want a deal on the C70 fully rigged minus the lens.... that you already have.
Yeah, I would love to get a c70!
Sony did this shit to me with my headphones . The firmware effed up my battery and only one side works. I will never update my fx3 or any sony products.
I'm sorry to hear that
Honestly, this is affecting the FX3s as well, other youtubers are reporting it.
Nothing....
sorry to hear that
thats exactly how I feel. No transparency from Sony
I have same issue in my camera Sony fx3 after update my camera Sony fx3 internal mic doesn't working
Camera refused to updated
To the latest 3.01 firware and sony told me they had to replace the board. $1000 later the camera is working again. It was perfectly fine before I updated the firmware then it all went south. Only upside was that the borrowed me an a1 for two weeks....
They did not offer to loan me a camera. I’m glad yours now works well.
Liked, commented! Hopefully this picks up for awareness and for the youtube algorithm.
Much appreciated!
Sir, I am facing the same problem after updating my Sony lens, it is working as well as the other lenses, can you tell me the solution to this problem?
There’s no solution other to send it to Sony for repair
Wow, keep us informed. I never updated as knew this might happen, I generally always wait.
Will do!
*I went from 2.11 for a year where i had to turn off and on many times to get it into record mode, to the next update up and now it won't let me do a fast on and off to get rid of a camera error, seems to be bricked*
I had a similar experience with the last firmware update with the Creators app for the a1.
Since then, no Bluetooth or WiFi connection.
got a C70 with around 300hrs on the clock that I will be listing to sell soon if you are interested!
This is sonys new update policy. Create win margins with faulty firmware updates! They claim „the problem was already existing, they now show it to you with the new Firmware“
Surprisingly after 2 years of warranty.
I was surprised too. Sony was always regarded very highly.
The best case scenario at this point is if you update and literally nothing happens.
agree, roll back should be an option. It's likely the update fried components that were otherwise working fine though...
It’s going to be pretty hard to sell a new A7S4 or FX4, if your old camera quit working after you upgraded the firmware.
maybe, that's a good observation but both hotshot and 3.5 mm worked last week before updating to 3.02
Hello,
I’m experiencing the same issue as you. Do you know, please, if the Sony XLR-K3M Kit module works despite the audio problem? I have an important event coming up.
Thank you in advance, and I hope everything will work out for you.
I dont own that module but if it plugs into the hotshoe, it may work for you. Try it out before your event.

AGREED! Total F$#KEN BS!!!!
This is happening with my A7R5
My fx3 is doing the exact same thing after the update, we need more UA-camrs calling Sony out about this

At this point I feel like they should get sued!!! Its DISGUSTING what they are doing with these BUGGY updates! Thank God im not experiencing any of this but this is scary man!!! What the hell is going on with these updates!!!
I know. Extremely disappointed
Just updated I hope I saw this video earlier 😢😢😢
I hope everything went well for you.
What a mess sony made of a great camera.
This is what these companies do not understand that there is competition out there so if you don't provide solid service your customers will go elsewhere. I too am no fanboy l shoot Canon and bag the crap out of them but when it comes to service my cameras are repaired and returned quickly.
agree!

Since then, no Bluetooth or WiFi connection.
The firmware 3.0 for the a1 will be released in October and I hope that the problems have disappeared.
Fingers crossed!
@@Sebartusyou can’t roll firmware
I am a professional and work 100% filming videos all week usually. the freezing thing makes it unreliable in a professional paid shoot :(
Thanks for the info.
I've noticed that too with my autofocus... :(
This is why you do not update cameras for a year after the update comes out.
If it worked flawlessly before, why fix something that wasn't broken?
because they added new features
When you think of a company like Apple that has occasionally seen issues from latest firmware ( batterygate ) updates but do at least fix there issues quickly with another update, I have updated firmware ever since Apple I phone 4 and update every app weekly generally without issue. How Sony fixes this or there are going to be a lot of used camera for sale.
my question is can you downgrade the firmware?
No you can’t with Sony cameras
Is this common with Sony? My Lumix cameras have never had this... Maybe there have been some cases? This is terrible to see
No. Unless you count the fx3/fx30 v2/v1 updates that bricked a bunch of cameras before being pulled.
Oh my, I did not know that. That’s scary.

I'm at 3.01, had problems, guess I'll wait for 3.03 lol
:)
i updated both my a7siii to 3.00. the only issue i'm having is on one of the 3rd party lenses i have; the auto-focus is constantly hunting. luckily, it's not one of my "main" lenses. since updating, i've been leery of updating to 3.01 or 3.02. i've been super paranoid after hearing of all the issues people are having. this is literally our livelihood, so i can't afford the risk.
thats how I feel as well. This is pro camera and I make a living off of them. They need to have better support.
Smh
sorry to hear, did you figure out if you lost audio?
@@TomWadeCine I bought some new headphones and toyed around with it the past 24 hours and it did work. The fact that we got left behind in the updates, compared to the FX3, and the new issues that are clearly due to the firmware, I have been very disappointed in Sony. Sorry to hear about your issues. I hope they do the right thing and fix it at no cost.
U can learn sign language.....
Silly idea but can't you just reset completely your system and have it again with the software and firmware that you bought it?...isn't a way to downgrade it or just re-install the old firmware?...I suppose no...that's a shame...😢😮
unfortunately no. You can't go back on firmwares with Sony.
But my assumption is that the early batches were using different mother boards, and there for, they aren't compatible with more recent version of the firmware 🤔
So it needs to be replace, or to not be upgraded.
The issue is that Sony doesn't want to admit that and we have no way to know which batch we have if there is no official announcement with serial numbers etc :/
I'll keep you updated if my A7IV with the new mother board shows any of the issues you describe 🙏
thank you! keep me updated
@@TaoCovillaultthanks, that’s the plan. I’m hoping they will. Glad you can still use yours professionally. Cheers!
Did you try factory reset ?
Yes I did. Thanks
I have the new update and no issues. So I guess im lucky maybe
thats great news, I'm happy for you.
@@TomWadeCine i did order the djimic 2 today and the extention for hotshoe just in case 😂
Why update firmware if your camera was working great in the first place. Firmware updates are trash!
for the new features introduced
@@TomWadeCine can you name a new feature that you have acquired in a firmware update that absolutely changed the game on your camera? If it was an amazing camera out of the box, what have they done to improve it with firmware updates? Has it ever updated it’s video capabilities? Or does it still have the same video specs as when you bought it? It had amazing auto focus out of the box right? So why bother?
I am on 3.02. Have no problem
That’s great, glad it’s working for you.
What a joke
@@xiaotianwan it's not planned obsolescence bro. You are actually being bumptious and paranoid.
Thats was my reasoning. This whole thing from Sony is bizarre
also the A1
and that's the flagship model too! oh my!
My A7S-III is running perfectly fine. I would LOVE to know what makes your A7S-III different than mine.
Could be the components have changed or the supplier source.
First yours is II and his is III LOL
@@ekphotographyor that lol
@@ekphotographyFixed it! Lol
It would be interesting to compare your build dates, serial numbers, etc. And those of other OK and failing devices.
We should all sue them
After downloading update through creative app I can't transfer photos to phone in my a7iv
oh no!
Have to tried installing an older firmware where you didn't have any issues? I saw a video with a fuji-shooter and he had some focus issues and the rollback fixed those problems for him, so maybe it would also work for you?
Unfortunately, there’s no rollback with Sony.
Is your mic fixed if you downgrade your firmware?
With Sony, you can’t downgrade firmware unfortunately.
Can we revert back to the older versions?
Unfortunately, there’s no rollback with Sony.
I really hope not. Still love my camera lol
@@TomWadeCine yeah. Me too. I use my Sony A7S3 a lot and I dont want to upgrade anytime soon. I havent updated my Sony to a new firmware but I had to send it to Sony for repair as the sensor had hot pixels all over the place.
IF THEY DID THIS I WOULD NEVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRR BUY SONY IN MY LIFE AGAIN!!! EVER!!! DO THEY THINK THEIR CUSTOMERS ARE FOOLS AND NOBODY WILL FIND OUT WITH EVERYONE BEING ONLINE NOW AND INFO GOING VIRAL EVERY SECOND!!! THAT WOULD BE AN INSANELYYYYYYY STUPID MOVE BY SONY TO DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT!!! EXTREMELY STUPID MOVE!!!!
I really hope that's not the reason, otherwise I'll say goodbye to Sony!
@@DD23-1 Exactly. There's no way. That would be corporate suicide.
@@TomWadeCine
No, this is not a hardware problem, my A1 is as good as new, I had updated from 1.32 to 2.01, the time before Bluetooth and WiFi always worked, since I don't have a computer, I transferred the pictures directly to the iPhone with the old one app.
no problem :)
heard it got rid of 2nd base ISO!
My Dual ISO seems to be fine so far (fingers Crosses)
Sounds like someone didn’t read the directions when updating because I know it was confusing for me but if you skipped 2.15 before skipping to 3.0 this is probably what happens. I think you need to send it to the manufacturer.
I didn’t skip. This is a known issue faulty with the firmware impacting early models of the camera.
