That is not true. A lot of PS5 performance modes run at around 1080p. I can clearly see the difference between 1080p and 1440p or 4k on my 1440p monitor that costs hundreds of dollars less than a PS5 pro.

Remember, Rebirth looks like a blurry mess on performance mode ON PURPOSE, they are using a terrible bilinear filter instead of FSR2/TSR which is literally just a button on UE4. FFVII Rebirth on performance mode renders at 1080p internally, and FSR2/TSR to 4k would've made a much, much more detailed image than the one we ended up with. Hell, even FFXVI was sharper at 720p using FSR1 (Another terrible upscaling method, but better than Bilinear Filtering nonetheless).
It was worth it at the time because of the price and because of the games. Right now 90% of the titles being re-releases, remasters and releasing also on PC completely trivializes the PS5 pro.

it's even worse than I thought. The GPU is on par with a 6800, which means it will be obsolete fairly quickly. A 3080 used when Blackwell drops will cost $200.00, and that's 20% faster on average than the ps5's pro GPU
I think Sony has been dreaming if they think this is going to sell well. PS4 pro did make many games run better & smoother over the standard PS4. However this generation just feels so slow. I just don’t know who would buy ps5 pro and feel they had got a significant upgrade 🤷🏻♂️

There's not enough difference to justify the price but I really doubt that everyone will agree with the picture of the PlayStation 5 looking like that. I think most people will say on their TVs it looks better. TV picture quality is really going to matter here more than the PlayStation 5 or the PlayStation 5 pro. If you have a cheap 4K just grab the PlayStation 5 if you have a three or four thousand dollar 4K TV than grab a PS5 pro because it sounds like you have the money. Problem solved.

I think you missed the PS5 part in the PS5 Pro. It isn't a PS6. Graphics boost, increased framerate, its actually more than a slight uptick. Most people will trade their PS5 base model in for it too. If it ain't for you, play your base model, it ain't going anywhere.
Anyone with two eyes in there head can see this is a huge upgrade, Max your saying 5% upgrade? Yes maybe in resolution/graphics but the whole point is your playing the game in effectively 4k (with PSSR) at 60fps instead of 30fps graphics mode, or 60 fps performance mode (which the difference is literally night and day in terms of visuals),being someone that has played this game for 120 hours and has watched the digital foundry presentation last night, honestly the difference is absolutely massive, 30fps to 60fps with slightly better visuals is a huge upgrade, I totally agree that the ps5 pro is expensive however, but I feel you have to give credit we’re credit is due, and this upgrade definitely warrants credit, honestly if the the difference is this big in most games I’m going to buy one, I hate playing in 30fps or 60 fps the blurry visuals, if this is the trend with games going forward the pro fixes the issues I currently have with my ps5.

If you want a $600 Pro console w/ disc drive, it would just be a larger SSD with no enhancements. The base model PS5 already has very slim margins. The PS5 Digitial edition at launch I'm sure was subsidized and was the cheapest in the USA at $400. Inflation since then has been about 22% so $490 in 2024 money. There is double the custom SSD capacity at 2TB. That cost around $130 so we are at $620. The Pro obviously has some of the latest advancements in hardware, so I don't see $700 as completely unreasonable. This is for the top 10-20% of gamers who want the absolute best and have the money to spend. If you don't have the money or want to wait for PS6 or PS6 Pro then that is fine. Once you do upgrade there will be so many PS5 games that will run and look so much better in the future because of the work being done today with the PS5 Pro. Why would you not want this? This is like the old complaint about Blu-ray such as no one has an HD TV, DVD is good enough, the player is too expensive, the movies are too pricy, I can't tell the difference on a 30" screen. Well Blu-ray and now Blu-ray 4K is the standard as well as 65-75" screens and I'm sure few are watching DVD. If you want to put the money into PC, then do it. I have a powerful PC for work, 128GB of RAM, 4TB SSD, but only on GPU built into my CPU because I don't like to game on my PC very much beyond Star Craft. The PS5 Pro also gives Sony and developers a change to try new things with stronger hardware so they can be that more prepared for PS6. It would be nice if it was cheaper, yes but at this point in the cycle Sony does not need to lose money on the Pro and there is no competition from Xbox. The Xbox 2TB Series X Disc Version is $600. $180 more gets you a much more powerful devices that is not dead in the water. The main point of the PS6 Pro is FPS. This was a big issue on the original gen, they could not keep the promise of high-quality visuals and high framerate most of the time. This fixes that and gets you better visuals as we see in FF7 Rebirth. People complained about the PlayStation Portable before it released and now everyone loves it who has a use for it.
The pro version is what was promised this gen so if you own a ps5 and upgrade to a pro you down 1200 to play 4k60 if you bought a new tv your at 2200 at least .

It looks better at 60fps. I don't think that's a negligible upgrade. All I wanted was a graphic mode at 60fps and they're bringing it. of course you can't see much difference in a graphic mode at 30fps to what essentially a graphic mode at 60fps in a pro in a picture. I think the point of the pro is having Graphic mode on 60fps.
I am looking forward to the Pro, it may not be a big difference to y'all but I prefer the 60 fps and better details in the graphics. That fact that I will get both most of the time is what I want. I can't wait to trade my launch PS5 towards the Pro. I already got the disc drive and Stand, so I am just waiting for preorders to start.

I didn’t mind the softer look in performance mode. It had a kind of movie look vs the over sharp graphics mode. It certainly wouldn’t want to make me pay £800 with a disc drive.
Same I didn't mind the overall visuals on performance mode I do remember in the gongaga reactor there was some issues with lighting in shadows that looked bad but other than that they game looked great in performance mode.

That thumbnail explains the problem perfectly. 1 - it’s hard to tell te difference for almost a 50% price increase. 2 - the existence of PRO devalues the original PS5. PS5 GAMES ARE BARELY PUSHING THE CONSOLE (with few exceptions like Wukong) so Pro is a quality of life for small changes instead of enjoying a theoretical ULTIMATE GAME.
You haven't played FF7 Rebirth. You also haven't played Alan Wake 2 on a PS5. You didn't play Dragon's Dogma 2 either, or FF16. There are more of those very demanding games and there will be even more sooner than you think. Just wait for Monster Hunter Wilds and you'll see, wait for GTA6 if that's what it takes, no doubt you'll think different about the Pro when you play that one.

Sony testing the waters with the Ps5 Placebo, let's take out the drive, cheaper for them, add an upgrade, say maybe 2%, and charge a quarter more than the original price, they'll eat it up!
It's a big upgrade if you look at Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, keep in mind, the PS5 Pro runs at 60, and basically looks the same as the graphics mode on PS5 which runs at 30 (in fact, it looks better than graphics mode on PS5). With that said, there is one thing that absolutely sux about the PS5 Pro: disc drive authentication. The PS5 Slim models have the same issue, if they ever shut down those servers in the future and anything happens on your console which causes the authentication to fail (like playing Final Fantasy 16 based on recent news), or if you need to format the console in the future, that's it, no more disc-based games. It would be better to stick to an OG PS5 with built in disc drive if you have one, knowing it doesn't have this authentication problem. With an OG PS5, as long as the console's functional, it will play your disc-based games, same can't be said for the Pro.
They just made it so people can actually get a PS5 and now they're already not only trying to move on but getting people to pay $700. Mind you, as per usual the scalpers and bots gobble everything up, so unless you want to pay $2,000 and up on resale, you're not getting one. People can spend money however they want. But there's not even a ton of PS5 games out to begin with I cant imagine theres gonna be a ton of Pro games. I've never once been dissapointed with my PS5 so I'm good.

I think the biggest draw is ability to play 60FPS with max graphics. I always play performance mode and some games look rough.
Plus 60fps mode is not stable on the base. So far it looks like the games are locked 60fps . Moors law is dead had a leak with similar results.

You guys keep pretending like you dont know the best way to see the difference is in motion. All these still shots are just pointless. My mind will not be made up until i see side by side comparisons of the games actually running with frame rate counters etc.

But, as I understand it, the PS5 Pro took the PS5 Performance mode (checkerboard rendering, 60fps) then applied AI PSSR to shrapen it / fill in missing pixels. Applying PSSR to Quality Mode didn't work?

Yep ff 7 rebirth in performance mode can look blurry in a lot of spots, having that clarity of visual mode with 60 fps is a huge improvement

it's even worse than I thought. The GPU is on par with a 6800, which means it will be obsolete fairly quickly. A 3080 used when Blackwell drops will cost $200.00, and that's 20% faster on average than the ps5's pro GPU
I think Sony has been dreaming if they think this is going to sell well. PS4 pro did make many games run better & smoother over the standard PS4. However this generation just feels so slow. I just don’t know who would buy ps5 pro and feel they had got a significant upgrade 🤷🏻♂️

@@UniversalStand I would have been their target market, I’ve had every PS gaming platform going, (slightly burnt by PSVR2 but it’s great in GT7). But the PS5 pro does nothing for me, my PS5 already has a 2TB ssd so the Pro + disc drive + stand is a complete waste of cash at the moment.

There's not enough difference to justify the price but I really doubt that everyone will agree with the picture of the PlayStation 5 looking like that. I think most people will say on their TVs it looks better. TV picture quality is really going to matter here more than the PlayStation 5 or the PlayStation 5 pro. If you have a cheap 4K just grab the PlayStation 5 if you have a three or four thousand dollar 4K TV than grab a PS5 pro because it sounds like you have the money. Problem solved.

I think you missed the PS5 part in the PS5 Pro. It isn't a PS6. Graphics boost, increased framerate, its actually more than a slight uptick. Most people will trade their PS5 base model in for it too. If it ain't for you, play your base model, it ain't going anywhere.

Anyone with two eyes in there head can see this is a huge upgrade, Max your saying 5% upgrade? Yes maybe in resolution/graphics but the whole point is your playing the game in effectively 4k (with PSSR) at 60fps instead of 30fps graphics mode, or 60 fps performance mode (which the difference is literally night and day in terms of visuals),being someone that has played this game for 120 hours and has watched the digital foundry presentation last night, honestly the difference is absolutely massive, 30fps to 60fps with slightly better visuals is a huge upgrade, I totally agree that the ps5 pro is expensive however, but I feel you have to give credit we’re credit is due, and this upgrade definitely warrants credit, honestly if the the difference is this big in most games I’m going to buy one, I hate playing in 30fps or 60 fps the blurry visuals, if this is the trend with games going forward the pro fixes the issues I currently have with my ps5.

If you want a $600 Pro console w/ disc drive, it would just be a larger SSD with no enhancements. The base model PS5 already has very slim margins. They aren't going to sell the Pro as is at a loss, as it's a novelty item. Hence, the price tag.

The PS5 Digitial edition at launch I'm sure was subsidized and was the cheapest in the USA at $400. Inflation since then has been about 22% so $490 in 2024 money. There is double the custom SSD capacity at 2TB. That cost around $130 so we are at $620. The Pro obviously has some of the latest advancements in hardware, so I don't see $700 as completely unreasonable. This is for the top 10-20% of gamers who want the absolute best and have the money to spend. If you don't have the money or want to wait for PS6 or PS6 Pro then that is fine. Once you do upgrade there will be so many PS5 games that will run and look so much better in the future because of the work being done today with the PS5 Pro. Why would you not want this? This is like the old complaint about Blu-ray such as no one has an HD TV, DVD is good enough, the player is too expensive, the movies are too pricy, I can't tell the difference on a 30" screen. Well Blu-ray and now Blu-ray 4K is the standard as well as 65-75" screens and I'm sure few are watching DVD. If you want to put the money into PC, then do it. I have a powerful PC for work, 128GB of RAM, 4TB SSD, but only on GPU built into my CPU because I don't like to game on my PC very much beyond Star Craft. The PS5 Pro also gives Sony and developers a change to try new things with stronger hardware so they can be that more prepared for PS6. It would be nice if it was cheaper, yes but at this point in the cycle Sony does not need to lose money on the Pro and there is no competition from Xbox. The Xbox 2TB Series X Disc Version is $600. $180 more gets you a much more powerful devices that is not dead in the water. The main point of the PS6 Pro is FPS. This was a big issue on the original gen, they could not keep the promise of high-quality visuals and high framerate most of the time. This fixes that and gets you better visuals as we see in FF7 Rebirth. People complained about the PlayStation Portable before it released and now everyone loves it who has a use for it.
The pro version is what was promised this gen so if you own a ps5 and upgrade to a pro you down 1200 to play 4k60 if you bought a new tv your at 2200 at least .

It looks better at 60fps. I don't think that's a negligible upgrade. All I wanted was a graphic mode at 60fps and they're bringing it. of course you can't see much difference in a graphic mode at 30fps to what essentially a graphic mode at 60fps in a pro in a picture. I think the point of the pro is having Graphic mode on 60fps.
I am looking forward to the Pro, it may not be a big difference to y'all but I prefer the 60 fps and better details in the graphics. That fact that I will get both most of the time is what I want. I can't wait to trade my launch PS5 towards the Pro. I already got the disc drive and Stand, so I am just waiting for preorders to start.

It's double the frames per second, you don't need a microscope for that. Plus better resolution. So it's more than 2x as good.
I didn’t mind the softer look in performance mode. It had a kind of movie look vs the over sharp graphics mode. It certainly wouldn’t want to make me pay £800 with a disc drive.
Same I didn't mind the overall visuals on performance mode I do remember in the gongaga reactor there was some issues with lighting in shadows that looked bad but other than that they game looked great in performance mode.

I dont care what anyone thinks. This is not a TINY upgrade when it comes to visuals. Running the game at 4k with twice the refresh rate is nottt a tiny upgrade. I understand the criticism about the price, but the upgrades in visual fidelity are undeniable.

1 - it’s hard to tell te difference for almost a 50% price increase.
2 - the existence of PRO devalues the original PS5. PS5 GAMES ARE BARELY PUSHING THE CONSOLE (with few exceptions like Wukong) so Pro is a quality of life for small changes instead of enjoying a theoretical ULTIMATE GAME.
You haven't played FF7 Rebirth. You also haven't played Alan Wake 2 on a PS5. You didn't play Dragon's Dogma 2 either, or FF16. There are more of those very demanding games and there will be even more sooner than you think. Just wait for Monster Hunter Wilds and you'll see, wait for GTA6 if that's what it takes, no doubt you'll think different about the Pro when you play that one.

It's a big upgrade if you look at Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, keep in mind, the PS5 Pro runs at 60, and basically looks the same as the graphics mode on PS5 which runs at 30 (in fact, it looks better than graphics mode on PS5). With that said, there is one thing that absolutely sux about the PS5 Pro: disc drive authentication. The PS5 Slim models have the same issue, if they ever shut down those servers in the future and anything happens on your console which causes the authentication to fail (like playing Final Fantasy 16 based on recent news), or if you need to format the console in the future, that's it, no more disc-based games. It would be better to stick to an OG PS5 with built in disc drive if you have one, knowing it doesn't have this authentication problem. With an OG PS5, as long as the console's functional, it will play your disc-based games, same can't be said for the Pro.
They just made it so people can actually get a PS5 and now they're already not only trying to move on but getting people to pay $700. Mind you, as per usual the scalpers and bots gobble everything up, so unless you want to pay $2,000 and up on resale, you're not getting one. People can spend money however they want. But there's not even a ton of PS5 games out to begin with I cant imagine theres gonna be a ton of Pro games. I've never once been dissapointed with my PS5 so I'm good.

You're comparing fidelity to the ps5 pro. One is at 30fps the other at 60fps with the same or slightly better graphics. That in my book is better than a 5% boost
