Thank you. I have a 2000 outback legacy with the same problem and will use this video to repair it. I removed the driver side door once before and the worst part was unplugging the plastic pieces that deliver the power to the doors components. They are extremely cheap and garbage so be careful when trying to unplug them.
Quite correct. The plastic was not brittle when installed, but temperature variations and age are the true enemies of plastic, so be extra careful when dislodging those plastic pieces, because they are HARD to replace. Well done.
Glad to find this, thank you. I need to remove the lock cylinder with my newly purchased 2008 Forester for repair or replacement, and I'm quite confident now of my ability to do it.
Thank you so much! This was a great help to point all the parts out and it took less thank 5 minutes to complete. Super easy to pop the door parts off. I had to really wiggle and pull hard to get the friction plate off but mine wasn't rusted at all like yours. I checked with the locksmith and he said my plate was fine and didn't need replacing. I love my Subi too! Many thanks again :)

It's my pleasure - just remember it's a lot easier to do this fix with the window rolled up than rolled down.

Just to confirm, this means two keys, one for the door (IF the battery is dead) and the usual ignition key.
If you change the cylinder then the key will be different between the ignition and the door, yes.
Want to use same key, so I'm going to take everything apart to clean and recondition the tumblers
How did it go with cleaning and reconditioning?
