This makes sense .. Explains why I do my best work at 3am ... When the world is quiet .. I'm relaxed .. and just basically "playing" .. no pressure to make great art, it seems, is what is needed to make better art .. At least for me...

Ahhh... that relaxed 3am feeling, if only we could sell that "feeling" in a bottle! ;)

I love Mike's videos. I dont feel like a imposter when I watch. I feel welcomed as a amateur who paints for fun.
I feel the same way in the stores. Welcomed and embraced!

“Hey Honey, Mike taught me how to rub one out today!” The look on his face was Priceless! After 23 years of marriage, it’s always fun to find new ways to shock him! Thank you for another much needed lesson, and for the entertainment as well. What I like to do to warm up is take a watercolor pencil and with eyes closed, make a few random squiggle marks. Then I grab my favorite watercolors and just reach for whatever color I want to play with that day and add it to the shapes I just created. I just play with my colors and enjoy the process. No expectations so no disappointments! Anyhow, I absolutely adore you and your humor. Your videos remind me of a great episode of Saturday Night Live, my favorite one, where Christopher Walken does the skit with Blue Oyster Cult, and Will Ferrell, and proclaims “We all need more Cowbell!” You are that rad! Anyways, I truly Hope you and yours have a beautiful holiday! Much Love and Respect as always, Stacy

Really great lesson. Good reminder for this long time painter to loosen up first.

I liked this video more than any other I have watched of yours. You seemed sincere in your delivery rather than focusing on being funny. Personally, when I watch an art video, I am trying to learn and make wise use of my time. You are tending more toward that delivery in this video, and felt it was a much better use of my time. However, you still had plenty of personality!

I really appreciate that feedback. I understand there are people who are just trying to learn, without the shtick or silliness. For me, I have spent most of my life being educated in the arts had and have personally found that although there are plenty of people who can educate you on art, very few can entertain you with art. And because of that, I had trouble paying attention and focusing. The reasons my videos go more to the silly side is because I always felt I learned better when I was entertained. I learn when I laugh because I am paying attention. That's not true for everyone, of course. But if there are more people like me out there, I hope these videos are helpful to them simply for the fact that they are different from what they are probably used to hearing.

Well, I've heard the phrase "rub one out" many times. Thanks to Mike for illustrating it for all of us!

Confident mark making is something I've been striving for, for sometime now I like your idea and you've explained it well, thank you. Looking forward to my next painting session :)

Funny, natural, entertaining yet really instructive. You're a great communicator, Mike. Kudos to anyone who has the ability to inspire others to do (and enjoy) art. Glad I found your channel. Greetings from Scotland, mate.
