  • In this video we take the EVH Frankie and elevate this very generic guitar to the next level with some basic procedures and techniques that, combined, end up making a major difference.
    In the next video we will cover how to round frets and wire in an actual pick up in the neck position.

    Not sure where you are getting that the Korean Floyd is made out of aluminum, that’s definitely not the case. It’s steel with a chrome finish. The difference is in the quality of the steel used, and the quality of the chrome plating, both of which I agree with you are much better on the Floyd Rose Original.
    Cool that you are taking a guitar that was already personalized for someone else, and putting your own spin on it. I think Ed would approve!

    I just upgraded mine with a 1971 quarter and eye bolt strap locks. That's enough for me. No other mods necessarily. Keeping it true to the original. A work of art 😀
    Still think it plays as good as my usa evh wolfgang which cost double!

    My Frankie arrived recently, and damn, you are right about the necks being so bone dry. It felt so bad to the touch. I first applied the F-one oil and then Z’s Wood Nectar. It really brought the neck to life! Thanks for posting your video on this application as this helped a lot. It completely transformed the feel of the neck, and I can also see the flame of the wood on my neck 🔥(The Frankie guitar is badass)

    The “dummy” pickup is a real pickup. People have wired it up and it sounds great. I personally won’t do it because on my other guitars I rarely switch to the neck pickup and on the guitars that have a middle pickup I never use either. I dwell in the bridge position. And I think I’m going to remove my d-tuna from the Frankie. I have it on the Bumblebee and I never use it. Except to play the intro to Unchained. But I like the personal touches you added. Was thinking about painting my headstock black to fit the ‘79/‘80 era Frankie. There are photos of the Frankie with the neck from the Bumblebee on it after Eddie removed the black paint from the neck exposing the bare wood. I like how he left the headstock black, tho. I’ve always loved that version of the Frankie with the Bumblebee neck.

    Good stuff Marko. The maple neck looks unbelievably dense, almost like mahogany or a dense koa. Nice. 👍🏼 toothpicks and wood glue is a great way to fill the hole for the retainer so you can drill new ones. We seem to have the same hobbies; guitars, guns, cars and I am a DYI person as well.

    Thanks for this very informative video. I just got my EVH Frankie yesterday. We had to wait a bit longer in the UK to get one. I was amazed that it arrived in tune, given it was in a cardboard box. Also it was sent from Mexico which is obviously a warm climate to the cold climate here in the UK that did surprise me. I beeswax my guitars anyway but I picked up a few tips from you as to how to apply. I am going to try the other oil you suggest first. I used to use lemon oil but I have stopped doing that. I already have my brass block from Fu-tone and my original Floyd is on order. I may go for the push/pull from Fu-tone to connect the neck pick up. You mentioned a couple of times that it is a dummy pickup but it isn’t. It is a real pickup, but from what I have heard on you tube it sounds like shit and is probably best to replace. The sad thing is that I wasn’t going to buy an EVH Frankie. I actually had paid a lying scumbag called Dillon at MCG guitars to build me one and he ripped me off. Anyway, I think as you alluded to it is a great looking guitar that just needs some upgrades to make it special. Question - how did you get the red paint for the headstock so close to the colour of the body - was it just good luck?

    • @THEVATICANTS
      @THEVATICANTS  3 роки тому +1

      Just eye-matched the paint. Yes it's a "real" pick up but it sucks badly so I consider it a complete dummy and will definitely change it ;)

    People never seem to understand that anything less than an Original Floyd Rose will never feel like the original. The FR1000 may be stable, sure, but the micro tuners feel terrible and even the springs they use are inferior. These things are done to save the manufacturer money. If you want the real deal, an OFR kit is a small price to pay. Same goes for the pickups, tuners, etc. This isn't snobbery, it's just economic fact.

  • @Mr911Medic

    A Frankie (of ANY type) should NOT have a truss wheel. This is a $1200 guitar...max (hand-relic'd or not) The guitar you made it into is a $2K guitar...but swap-out that hot-ass Wolfgang pickup for an EVH Frankenstein (which is what it should have came with in the first place).
