Been using a spirit tool x for a few years, glad you got a chance to review one. Good tool selection for camping and hiking. Love the videos and the channel man! You are my number one super advanced tactical mall ninja reviewer!! (Sorry for yelling)
You actually save me a lot of money by reviewing all these multitools and bluntly telling me what's the most practical. I own a wave and my only complaint has been the sheath. The first sheath was fabric and started falling apart after several months and the second sheath (they sent me for free) is the leather one on the right in your video. I think I need the classic leather sheath because the rivets/pins are rusting out of the one I have now. Again, thanks for saving me money!
Yup. The sheath on the Wave is kinda sucky. If you’re carrying the bit kits, the nylon one is the way to go... even though it rides kinda high. The leather one is better, but still not as good as the original all leather ones. Glad they’re useful. I use my multi tools more than anything- because I use them for work- like you it sounds. Save I find a SOG and fall in love.. the wave is Leathermans best multitool and probably the best out there- despite its flaws- and I own nearly all Leatherman tools now. Yeah- it’s weird.
Leathermans break,Leathermans rust. Leathermasns generally don't last and have many other flaws "pinching your palm" not comfortable, are only a few,.That's why they make replacable tools and give limited waranty, while Vixcotrinox comes with lifetime waranty.IMHO If Leathermans where made in Europe and Victorinox was an American Company, nobody would buy Leathermans, because in comparison, they feel and work like junk. I have used Leathermans for years, they are is no cmparison. It's like comparing a cheap Ford to a Luxury Mercedes.Presision, quality, ergonomics and functionality,is by far better on the Victorinox.
@@apegrasshoplizard I was a bit hard on my opinion on Leatherman multitools, but not far from the truth. I bought a Leatherman Wave when first came out many, many, many years ago and although that one disappeared I remember liking it better than the new one I bought recently. Using the Wave seems awkward to me when compared to my Victorinox Spirit. I’m really not a fan of the bits on the Wave. Both are well built and work, I just prefer the Victorinox and yes I do realize it is not Made in the USA.
Happy Noob Yes, Victorinox is a Swiss company and their products are made in Switzerland. Also, correcting a misstatement in my original comment. I have the Victorinox Spirit X, not the Spirit. I found a vintage Wave like my original and while I like it better than the new Wave I still prefer the Spirit X because of the handle ergonomics and the other tools being accessible while the pliers are closed. All are well made high quality products.
Good video. I owned a SOG. I lost it. Only feature I liked about it besides pliers being really pointy was the one I had used gear reduction for extra leverage. The one I had had tools on the outside AND inside so when gripping it for pliers, it really hurt my hands. I was tempted to get another one but I was looking for strong scissors/snips and large replaceable wire cutters (I really like the Leatherman replacement wire cutters best of all). Swiss Army brand has always been my non-pliers knife tool of choice but I need a pliers tool to keep on my belt for work. Good review. Convinced me not to get a Swisstool even though I honestly believe the build quality is #1 then Leatherman then Gerber in that order.
Funny, the PST was my gateway multitool as well. The narrow flat head screw drivers are always the first tools to break on me. I never tried sending in a Leatherman to get fixed because I assumed the shipping costs were not worth it. Now I might look into it. Awesome comparisons to the other multitools and great info as always. You seem to hit all the points of interest that I would for multitools and more. that is the single biggest annoyance with leatherman tools they rust for fun! all of mine require TLC to keep the rust off. my swiss tool is 18 years old and never rusted on me. the warranty is great with leatherman ive made several claims but my swiss tool has never failed. if Victorinox did one handed opening blades then they would slaughter leatherman
Great vid. As always, I still think my Rebar is the best tool. BUT I still would love a review of the SOG PowerPint. Because I want more multitools. And I'm curious on SOG's..does the steel suck? Oh, and the PowerPint has 'Pint' in the name. Pint. Pint'o'beer. I like beer.
Love your style.....but i have to disagree on the file. The one on the Spirit blows the one on Wave out of the water, the coarse one that is. It files the undercutter on a reel mower like nobodies business and that's impressive. All in all a great comparison though.
I won’t disagree with you on your file use... however I use the diamond file much more often than the other one. So that’s why I prefer the Leathermans file. I just have an old bastard file for home use.
I like the removable bits on the wave except they are leatherman proprietary ones rather than the standard quarter inch bits available in every hardware store on the planet!. im interested in the surge black oxide just to see if it stops the incessant rusting that that happens.
I really don’t think you can beat the Swisstool X,I don’t think it’s too big.I like the measuring scales and the 90 angle,I think there’s a 45 also.I try carry both the Swisstool and the Leatherman wave because of the bit kit,but if I have to choose one it would be the Swisstool. The Spirit is inferior to the Swisstool I think,it is beautiful however.I might buy one someday just to look at it :) Great Video.

I am not saying to spam all these places, but just pop up unexpected. I am not blowing smoke up your ass, but your videos are good. If you do this, your channel will get much bigger for sure.
The SOG powerlock with the piano lock system is the best. It has interlocking gears at the end of the handle to give it extra torque AND you can get the extra tacticool c4 spike as an option AND there is a 1/4" driver that accepts full size screwdriver bits AND 1/4" sockets which makes it more universal than the flat Leatherman bit driver 😁😁😁
Here is that guy you talked about. I guess I got here too late to make a similar post. Although I am in the minority and prefer the new locking mechanism on the SOG over the beloved piano lock they stopped using. I have one of each. Man I can't wait for you to get the PowerLock or the Power Assist just to see what you think. I haven't used a Leatherman in a long time myself after getting the SOG.
Leatherman has innovative ideas, but the fit, finish, quality and aesthetics goes to Victorinox by far. Much goes down if these innovations are actually useful.
Ok well I find the leatherman tools are more useful for me and have an excellent warranty to back them up. Victorinox tools are also harder to pull. You can admire and prefer the quality, fit, finish, and aesthetics of your the Victoninox and I will continue to reach for my Leatherman Wave over either one of the Swisstools.
As long as i have nails and folding knives, opening tools in "SAK-style" and not having one-handed opening is never a problem for me, for instance. Also, Leatherman's warranty is great only in US; in most places it's pretty much inexistent and prices are ridiculously high, which are terrible. I believe it's a spot that Leatherman can try win with time, at least making a kind of "main shop" in each continent. In any case, to each his own.
I don't known, in places like Brazil it sucks. Prices are usually double of that in US and if you get one as a gift and it brokes you have to pay something between a kidney and a lung to send to US and get it back (under the risk of repeating the process in the future). It's bad, because these pliers are pretty widespread and liked nowadays.
I'm. An electrician and die me the really best way to strip wires is a curved edge the victorinox Sak's has the pruner blade is perfect for this purpose if you ask me. It's even better than their electrician blade (for wire stripping)
dude I truly truly love you man , every time I watch your beautifully edited and cut shit , I laugh my ass off If you are ever want to bring your humor to israel , send a message we will compare flashlights
"If you spend some time on this channel, I wouldn't, but if you have..." this joke is extra funny because its true. Sometimes I wonder why you make videos at all if they're not something you would watch. I know you're proud of them, but they're not the type of entertainment you enjoy. Is there any content you could make that you would watch? or are you truly that miserable that you enjoy nothing?
I make the videos I most want to watch. The thing is though, I actually don't watch a ton of anything- I just don't have time. Full time job, family, and this channel take up so much of my time. I don't get as many "big" videos as I used to- so I have to make more now, to keep my overall viewership up. I watch 1 or 2 TV shows a week, and that's it. Cedric and Ada's channel is really good. I think I watch his videos more than anyone elses.
When it comes to larger multitools I really only have the leatherman Sidekick. Never even got around to the Wave. Then again I never leave home except for hospital visits but still.. a more complete multitool is a good idea. Damn, the video made me think. That's not good.
@@AdvancedKnifeBro I am pretty happy with it and use it quite frequently. Rather than use the actual tools just to feel like I bought it for a reason. Still buying something even more expensive seems of course like a fantastic idea.
Please i hawe and use Leatherman Skeletool cx and use bit kits but feu of them regularly and 2 of them or 4 heads are enuff for mee, also it has only 145grams but I need tools that Victorinox MX has . I'm lucking to buy Victorinox Spirit MX clip and its like your X. I'm thinking to carry him and use him as knife or Skeletool CX so what you think is it too big cos newe MX with clip has 210grams. So 50-60 grams more than Skelatol but length and other things are buging mee. What you thing is it ower kill. Cos carrying my Skelatol is no problem I forget to have him its light but if its big and tool I wish to know that . Thanks best regards from Croatia .
Awesome!!! Great review, as usual, I have a few slicey, flippygrippyscrewy things as well! Leatherwomens are great and so are Victorinox'sesz. This day and age we are spoilt for choice of quality gadgets and multitools. Now, where did I put my wave? ;-))
You said the wave weights less and is more ergonomic. 1. There is disagreement about the ergonomics. I have seen multiple reviews that say the charge is more ergonomic, that the wave has pointy edges on it(that are not on the charge) that can be uncomfortable when gripping. Full disclosure: I have never handled the wave, so I can't say for certain which more ergonomic. 2. While the charge tti weights more than the wave, the charge + actually weights slightly less than the wave. According to the leatherman website. the wave + weights 8.5 oz the charge + weights 8.3 oz and the charge + tti weights 8.89 oz.
WTH? I came for another fixed blade review, and now this? Your narrative is entertainment genius, as always. BTW, have you looked at the Gerber center drive multitool?
Just picked up the Wave Plus... Wow. I can't put the thing down! Used 5 of the 18 tools the first two days (including the tweeker driver; my wife wears glasses). The Spirit is a great tool, but the replaceable driver bits is a major selling point.
The only thing that is superior about the SOG is the compound gripping pressure provided by the geared plier head (one of if not the best feature ever designed for a multitool, it is amazing) and the precision of the plier tips. Otherwise everything else is on par but mostly sub par to its competitors. The handle tools are customizable with just an Allen key but they are incredibly cheap in design and material choice. I keep a Power-assist right next to a Wave in my glove compartment to get the best of both worlds but if I had to take just one it would be my Wave.
I have the wave, the surge, and the Spirit X. You point out the curvature, but there is a big advantage it gives the Spirit X over the Surge and Wave that was not mentioned. With the Surge and Wave, when using the pliers, you can give your palm a really nasty pinch. I had this happen to me with the Surge, and it almost happened to me with the Wave. Due to the curvature of the of the handles on the Spirit X, this does not happen. You don't have to worry about pinching your palm with the Spirit X.
@@AdvancedKnifeBro I was able to find the "Leatherman Wave 6 year Review. Comparisons to Original, New, Plus & other Multitool Knives." review, is that the one you were referring to? When I got my wave and Leatherman (I went through a multitool phase, probably got more than I needed), I had a techsupport job that was more hands on (I now work in IT work that is done remotely), I had occasional use for my surge's pliers. And I found I that had to be careful after one or two bad experiences using it. I caught myself almost doing that to myself with the wave. Basically the problem occurs when you either are cutting something, or trying to apply the pliers on something thin and narrow. If the object, say a nut, is big enough, it isn't an issue (unless of course it slips which will squeeze the handles together). Of course I am sure things like grip and hand size had something to do with it.
That's the one. Yep people often hold these and use them slightly differently. I can't remember ever pinching my palm that way. Maybe I hold my hands further back during use?
I say this because I am a farmer, so a multi tool is used several times a day, every day. I have the big one, black oxide. This is the only multitool we will use.
I love the fact that I don´t use pliers and I can spend all my money on flashlights and swiss army knives, instead of carrying those big chunks of metal around....love the review though.....

I work only about 50% of the time. The rest of the time I'm watching your videos.
Nice decals on your long sleeve shirt. Maybe some day you can put out a review on them!?!
There are a ton of different opinions on multi tools and I can prove this by pointing out that the Leatherman Signal exists and that people bought it.
Only reason that make me subscribe is the passive aggresive talking of his love it :D
@@AdvancedKnifeBro That's the beauty of all these different tools, you buy/use what suits you.
Thans for the response.
I love my surge but I wish I had the wave it’s a lot More manageable
I like the removable bits on the wave except they are leatherman proprietary ones rather than the standard quarter inch bits available in every hardware store on the planet!. im interested in the surge black oxide just to see if it stops the incessant rusting that that happens.
But if you use the bit extender, that changes. It’s compatible with standard 1/4 bits.
@@AdvancedKnifeBro I didn't know that, thanks for the help😁
Multi Tools are sexy as hell just don't make the mistake of comparing your wife to one.
The Spirit is inferior to the Swisstool I think,it is beautiful however.I might buy one someday just to look at it :)
Great Video.
Found your channel because of the laser strike review... You should have more views. Your videos are aweosme. Need to do some advertising or something.
I’ve tried on Instagram. They keep disabling the ads because they have knives and beer in them.
@@AdvancedKnifeBro No, not paid advertising. The old fashioned kind. Get on some Facebook knife groups. Share your videos. Put links to your reviews in the UA-cam comments on other channels. IG is good to, just be everywhere in the knife community. Be like herpes and just pop up every where. I should have found your videos much sooner. I am a subscriber to lots of other knife / survival channels and didn't find yours until the laser strike video. I also found the name to your channel on a review of the Esee LS online. I am not saying to spam all these places, but just pop up unexpected. I am not blowing smoke up your ass, but your videos are good. If you do this, your channel will get much bigger for sure.
The SOG powerlock with the piano lock system is the best. It has interlocking gears at the end of the handle to give it extra torque AND you can get the extra tacticool c4 spike as an option AND there is a 1/4" driver that accepts full size screwdriver bits AND 1/4" sockets which makes it more universal than the flat Leatherman bit driver 😁😁😁
...............
I’m gonna get one, one of these days. However though.... I don’t use the bits a whole lot other than the ones that come with the Wave.

I have had several people under my leatherman videos say the warranty is good in places in Europe.
I also carry the wave and it is my favorite multitool, so I have to admit, when you chose the wave as your favorite I came a little.
Wait, there are fast parts in your reviews?

dude I truly truly love you man , every time I watch your beautifully edited and cut shit , I laugh my ass off
If you are ever want to bring your humor to israel , send a message we will compare flashlights
Thanks man!
The exchangeable bits are dope. Bought the piece off eBay. Put in on my keybar and the extra bits have torx cool little system I think
I'm just here to read the hate comments 👐
With only 1% dislike ratio who would have hate comments?
Hey, does the Swissstool come with Scissors? May need it for them chin hairs! Just kidding enjoyed the review.
Oh I think I agree with you!
HAHA!...Told you Swisstool was better
Charge + in aluminum is best IMO, the heritage edition can be had for only a few bucks more than a regular wave if you know where to look.
When it comes to larger multitools I really only have the leatherman Sidekick. Never even got around to the Wave. Then again I never leave home except for hospital visits but still.. a more complete multitool is a good idea. Damn, the video made me think. That's not good.
stick with the sidekick!
Now, where did I put my wave? ;-))
Don't lose your Wave, they're $90 now!
Even my pillow hates me..😕
But...Can it baton?
Just buy both!
Just picked up the Wave Plus... Wow. I can't put the thing down! Used 5 of the 18 tools the first two days (including the tweeker driver; my wife wears glasses). The Spirit is a great tool, but the replaceable driver bits is a major selling point.
Agreed! That small screwdriver has so many uses.
Enjoyed those great comparisons, and agree the Wave is the all around winner. TTi for the deep pocket Bros.
I didn’t point it out, because in all of my 7 years of using Wave it has never once happened to me. Did you see my Wave review?
@@AdvancedKnifeBro
I was able to find the "Leatherman Wave 6 year Review.
You're welcome
They look cool but I have LM’s. The Wave/Charge is a great size tool.
the swiss tool is the best by far.
Oh yeah?
I say this because I am a farmer, so a multi tool is used several times a day, every day. I have the big one, black oxide. This is the only multitool we will use.
Sounds good. The Leatherman has always been reliable for me- so that’s what I use.
I love the fact that I don´t use pliers and I can spend all my money on flashlights and swiss army knives, instead of carrying those big chunks of metal around....love the review though.....
If pliers aren't necessary for you, then yep- these are overkill.
