Where I live in Ohio, we were taught in like the 4th grade that there is very little water in a "desert". Lake Mead and Lake Powell were not designed for 40 million people to survive. Like you said Sarah, mother nature always wins it back. But keep on watering those golf courses.

Sara, I know Lake Mead NRA very well! I worked as a US Park Ranger/ Firefighter at the Shivwits Ranger Station which was administered by the Echo Bay Sub-District in 1993 and 1994 and I remember eating at the Tail of the Whale Restaurant on occasion. I also worked at Catherine’s Ranger Station, Las Vegas Wash, and Boulder Beach in 1986 and 1987. I can’t believe how much Lake Mead’s water level has gone down since I worked there, and that’s really heartbreaking. Thanks for sharing this informative video Sara!

GREAT VIDEO SARAH JANE... LOTS OF SPECIAL MEMORIES FOR MY WIFE AND I.
When my wife and I came to Vegas in 1973, we lived at Lake Mead. We both had jobs at Lake Mead Marina, I was the Buffet Assistant, we cooked and set a buffet for the two tour boats "Echo 4" and "Echo 5" owned by the Marina.
There were NINE marinas on Lake Mead's FIVE BASINS. The water then was just below the top edge of the Bath Tub Ring.
I worked at the restaurant and my wife worked across the hallway at the General Store. Because we worked for Lake Mead Marina and they owned the Lake Mead LODGE, we got to LIVE at Lake Mead Lodge (I think they just tore it down.) for $2 a day.
We had a pool and a maid for $2 a day. Every weekend we rented a 28 foot patio boat and went SCUBA DIVING in most of the 108 coves around the five basins. Wishing Well and Monkey Cove were our favorite.
Wishing Well is half way between Boulder Beach and Temple Bar in Arizona and Monkey Cove is within half a mile from "THE TEMPLE", a white sandstone monolith in the middle of the Temple Bar cove (Virgin Basin) that rose up 150 feet out of the water.
I was working at Lake Mead Marina when one of two tour boats the "ECHO 4" exploded and everything above the waterline disappeared.
Lake Mead Marina was moved to Hemenway Harbor, because the water around Saddle Island where you were, near the straws got so low the floating restaurant was no longer floating.
Lake Mead Marina used to be in Saddle Cove and Las Vegas Boat Harbor was two coves North of Lake Mead Marina.
Today BOTH Las Vegas Boat Harbor and Lake Mead Marina have been combined and moved to Hemenway Harbor Cove.
There really is no other place for the marinas to go if the water continues to diminish.
From 1973 with the exception of 2 years we went back to Maryland, only to return to Vegas in 1976... we grew up at Lake Mead (Was there YESTERDAY... 5/17/2022).
We HAD A BLAST growing up around Lake Mead.
One of my duties at Lake Mead Marina/Nautical Inn was to prepare hors d'oeuvres including Rumake, then carry a large tray of the treats out to the 38 foot cabin cruiser named "ALOUETTE" owned by Paul McVay, the then manager of Lake Mead Marina.
Once a week the Showgirls from "Les Folies Bergere", a topless show at the Tropicana Hotel would come out to the marina and Paul and myself (I served the food.) would take the girls out for a cruise up to Hoover Dam where the Showgirls would sunbathe nude on the deck, snack on treats while they got rid of their tan lines.
When my wife and I reminisce about our 45 years in Las Vegas, that period when we first arrived and worked and played at Lake Mead is remembered as a very fine and fun time. We had ZERO WORRIES, work at the marina and play on the Lake, explore the canyons.
    It was not horrible!
PS, I wonder if the skeleton found in Callville Bay might have been William “Ceco” Cline, an inspector for the Civil Aeronautics Administration who was knocked out of Howard Hughes' plane back in 1943.
Howard was conducting a flight test of an experimental Sea Plane when the prop broke off, came through the fuselage and hit Howard's Mechanic Richard Felt in the head before knocking William Cline out of the airplane, his body was never found.
Howard received a severe blow to his head, which left a large scar visible the rest of his life.
Maybe the skeleton was Ceco Cline?

    • @greyeaglem
      @greyeaglem 2 роки тому +4

What a great story! I can't help wondering what caused the boat to explode? My first thought was you were serving beans, but humor aside, I am wondering what caused it.

    • @DIZEMANPHOTO
      @DIZEMANPHOTO 2 роки тому +3

@@greyeaglem Sorry for leaving out that detail... in boats that have sub-floors or enclosed engine compartments there is often a blower system, sometimes automatic, sometimes manually triggered that exhausts/removes any gas fumes that may have escaped from the engine or fuel lines or even the venting of the fuel tank under the floor or in the engine compartment.
Especially in the Summer months in Southern Nevada when ambient air temps can and do reach 121 degrees at times.
If there are fuel fumes trapped below either in the bilge under the floor or the sub-floor engine compartment and for any reason there is a spark from the battery or starter electrical contacts or even the Rotor/Stator sparking in the starter itself, the boat, any boat as described can catch fire or explode if not vented using a blower system before cranking the engine.
That is what Paul McVay reported happened that day. The blower system failed to remove the fuel fumes, either by equipment failure or human error.
Lake Mead Marina is a restaurant and store that float on 3 foot x 4 foot x 6 foot closed cell foam blocks attached under the flooring of the marina. Lots of those foam blocks.
The day the "Echo 4" exploded, when Paul saw the mushroom cloud, he jumped on his yacht the "Alouette" backed out of his slip, with the stern of the boat facing the restaurant, he slammed the throttle forward, the boat climbed out of the water and the wake he generated nearly broke the restaurant free of it's mooring cables.
Inside it felt like a Tsunami.
There were several people on the "Echo 4", none seriously hurt, all went in the water and Paul rescued them.

Like what can be done? Eventually the droughts will subside, they always do. Wasn't all that long ago when it was to full or like Lake Powel up the road that feeds Lake Mead, the water was going over the top of the dam and they needed to release the water 24 hrs a day trying to keep up. Will take a lot to fill both lakes again, but it will happen at some point. It is only sad to see now for many people but not all. The environmental nuts have been clamoring for years to drain these 2 lakes.

You did a nice job on the movie….when we went to Gold Butte National Monument…..Aravada Springs in particular, I talked to the owner who is a direct descendant of a family who had property in St. Thomas. When the government wanted to put in the dam that would flood the town. The residents were paid well. The property was assessed in 1926 ish dollars at a good price……and the the people having to relocate received this higher value of the 1926 assessment in 1932. His parents received enough money to buy a large good farm in Hurricane, Utah, a house in town with the first indoor plumbing (in Hurricane), a brand new car, and still had money left over…..all that instead of dry hard to farm land down in St. Thomas and an acre in the town where the train station was supposed to be built. Most people hated the hot, hot temps of St. Thomas in the summer……..so they were thrilled to be bought out and get out of there…….what you read or think is not accurate in this case….we too were surprised to hear the story of what his family had gone thru….we had thought differently originally when we first went to see St. Thomas. Another interesting place is Lake Powell(maybe now more appropriately called River Powell)…..we saw how tragic that was last week when we went thru Page, AZ, as went to and home from Bluff, Utah.

I have been there back in the day. I was in SoCal during the great drought of the 80's. I was from NW Ohio so the whole Green Season/Brown Season took getting used to. I watched Lake Elsinore go from full size w skiing, jet skis, etc (1984) to dried up w just a patch of water left in the middle. It's a natural lake as opposed to Lake Mead. The politicians are to blame for gross mismanagement of precious water in CA. Dumping hundreds of millions of gallons of freshwater annually despite the serious lack of freshwater. Dumping all that water when trucks had to go and bring back bottled water from other parts of the country (last drought). The most egregious act was to ignore a common sense proposal by an Engineer who proposed 31 desalinization plants along the coast. He had done all the work finding acceptable locations. This was proposed during the depression/recession during P Obama's tenure. It promised lots of full time work in areas that had sig umemployment. Instead the fools went w a bullet train to nowhere (big political chronic graft and corruption). The reason given by a politician regarding not going with a sure thing - desalinization plants w reverse osmosis, was this: the drought was going to end and then the plants would not be needed anymore.. Seriously..

The Politicians do EXACTLY, what their contributors, and other "powers-that-be" (influential individuals); want them to. One politician said exactly, that; on the radio, today; concerning gun control, but the answer would be the same, for other issues, "If I don't do, what my supporters want; I'll be out, in the next Election." I worked in State Government, and did a lot of observing, even though I, personally; "played it, straight." I took the Civil Service tests, when offered; and scored high, but eventually, didn't get anything, but lousy jobs. There is so much corruption, nepotism, and patronage; it's a wonder, anyone is competent. I was floored, not that long ago; when I was being audited, the auditor couldn't read a basic NASDAQ document, didn't ask me about it, and made an incorrect assumption; I had to correct, HIM!

Well said. But thanks to voter fraud these Democrats are holding on to their offices like ticks on a hound dog. You can't get enough people to vote them out because they just print up more ballots. California should have flipped bread during the 2020 election. There were way more voters than there were registered voters. And anyone who wants to attack us over this point only needs to go to the gas pump and rethink all of their arguments in support of their Democrat overlords. People need to learn that Democrats only pretend to care. They are sociopath with narcissistic tendencies. They don't have any feelings so they need to be told how to feel luckily they have the Democrat Party to manipulate them. And a peer group in a similar position as themselves to reinforce the brainwashing. But I think Joe Biden has gone even past the limits of their status quo brainwashing and some of these people are at least figuring some of it out. Democrats have never done anything good for America. They pretend to solve problems they create at best. They have started and had a hand in every war America has been in from the Civil War on. Every assassin in US history has been a Democrat. All the problems in the Middle East was started by democrats interfering in other governments. They are the ones who destabilize the Middle East. Every one they put in power caused more problems than the people they replaced that's why America is hated so much over there. Everything minorities hate about white people was actually perpetrated by the Democrats. The KKK was started by democrats. Andrew Jackson and other Democrats are the ones who put smallpox on blankets and gave to Native Americans and they also tried to exterminate them by attacking villages of women and children. This was not white people this was white Democrats. Democrats even voted against black people having the right to vote. And Democrats are the ones who divided the country. They're the ones who have taken over the education system and want to indoctrinate children and groom them for pedophiles. Democrats are the ones who took open up our borders and are allowing millions of Invaders from all over the world into our country. Wanting a secure border is not racism every country in the world has a secure border. Most countries will execute you if you invade their country or at the very least put you in prison. We have catch and release. America's drug problem is because of the Democrats and their open border policies. Prison overcrowding and excessive crime rate is due to their immigration policies. And lack of enforcement. And their environmental policies is why we went from being an exporter of fuel to having some of the highest fuel prices in history. They want us to go to electric cars while there are only about 6% of the cars on the road that even use electricity and the systems are overloaded and they are already predicting power shortages all over the country. They even have bands in place restricting people from fully charging their electric cars. And a lot of these electric cars are not even safe. Some of them catch on fire when you charge them. Democrats have proven They Don't Care About Us face in 40 billion dollars to the country that launders all their money and supplies all their children sex slaves. And don't bother to ensure baby formula for American babies but they sure have it loaded up on the border for all of the Invaders who bring their babies along. Democrats are also responsible for these mass shootings we've been having lately. It just doesn't add up and like everything else with a Biden Administration they do things half-ass. They leave ties to FBI agents from the shooters and an obvious trail of support even as far as supplying them with weapons. And all the shooters have had a history with threats and violence. That eighteen-year-old kid in Texas was arrested four years ago for threatening to shoot up the school. So tell me where an eighteen-year-old kid from a poor family with a history like his was able to purchase extremely expensive rifles with Optics extra clips and 300 rounds of ammunition. A handgun and body armor? Why was a back door purposely unlocked an hour before this guy came to the school and how did he know out of all the doors on the building which one to go to? I mean someone would have seen him walking around with a couple of rifles looking to get into a school. But he drove a $72,000 truck to the crime scene and went straight for the door that was unlocked. On top of that police provided crowd control and refused to go in and stop him even as he was shooting the children. It was an hour-and-a-half before they went into stop him. There's a lot of liberal propaganda trying to deny a lot of this but you can't deny the live reports as it was happening and watching what was going on. Those police on the scene were in on it and I guarantee if you were to rest them and make it a capital punishment trial they would be naming names of who told them to do it. I say all of this because as you pointed out Democrats are incompetent to the point of stupidity.

Decades ago, so the story goes, a float trip guide on the mighty Colorado lost a raft and its contents to an uncharted boulder. "DAMN this river!" he was heard to shout. "Damn it!!" One of his paying customers on the ill-fated trip was a Captain in the Army Corps of Engineers and, thinking as engineers do, he heard "Dam this river!" and thought it might be a good idea to pitch up the chain of command and maybe get a promotion out of it. Later, when the project got rolling, the story of the uncharted boulder became so well-known among the command staff at the CoE that they decided to call their creation "Boulder Dam." A little bit of history unwritten anywhere until right here, just now. There's a lot of revisionist history being written these days, so I thought I'd try my hand at it. Very enjoyable video today! Cheers.

@@djack915 - Yea, I was going to mention that. Only Lake Michigan is completely within the boundaries, of the United States. So, not only are the statutes between the affected States, need to be revised, the treaty with Canada needs revisions. Do not see much incentive, within these parties, to allow much to happen. Then there is the whatever negotiations, with the pass-thru Central states, to get the water to the Western states. Thus, the West coast’s future does not look too terribly bright.

I went to Las Vegas and Lake Mead and Hoover Dam in 1989/90. The lake back then was filled to the max. Same in 1991 and 1992. I was on a Vegas spree back in those years. Went every year when my vacation at work came around. Haven't been back there since 1992. It does look depressing here.

On my first trip to Las Vegas, part of the "adventure was a trip to the Hoover Dam. To make a long story short, there's a pretty nice Seiko watch at the bottom of the lake, toward the Arizona side of the highway. If the Lake ever dries by the dam and you find that watch with a silver band you can keep it. However if it running after 34 years please contact me through this WH video! Your reward will be just how did that watch get there!

In the early 2000's, a LVMPD officer told me that a bunch of LA area gang members had moved to North Las Vegas in the early to mid-90's fleeing from California's "Three Strikes" law. They were warned not to mess with the casinos. They ignored the warning. According to this officer plenty of these gang members disappeared. LVMPD believes that most, if not all, of them are at the bottom of Lake Mead. So keep looking Wonderhussy!

It shows the absurdity of the average person's understanding how how the world works. Just because we've spent 200 years here everyone thinks it'll always stay the same. Except they overlook facts like 11,000 years ago my area was under a massive glacier. People can't process change. And the fact that we're seeing the climate evolve in our lifetime makes them scream at the sky instead of asking how do we adapt and change with the world.
