Too bad so many comments are about nothing to do with this episode and coming from people that would declare their patriotism but probably don’t know what that truly entails.
Military accidents happen not just in time of war and we need to recognize the on going sacrifices of all the men and women that serve in the military and really in our government in general.

As a retired CDCR correctional officer, I can tell you that all of San Quentin's notorious past is very much in the past. California built several "Supermax" prisons in the 1990s to help alleviate the danger of housing dangerous violent felons in such relics as San Quentin and Folsom. Today San Quentin houses mostly check foregoers, drunk drivers who injured or killed someone and elderly inmates doing life. We CDCR cops who have worked at the more modern maximum-security joints refer to San Quentin and old Folsom as "Camp Snoopy's."

The Martin PBM was 79' L. Had a 118' wingspan. Weighed over 60,000 lbs(30 tons). It was a monster to pilot. It was the other American plane to sport a gull wing design(for efficiency and flight dynamics). The other, was the Vought F4U Corsair, which had inverted gull wings, to accommodate the giant prop(13' across).

In 1956 I flew on the PBM 5 in Corpus Christi Texas, we were the only Navy unit flying them as they had been replaced in the fleet by a newer more modern version. We flew 8 hour navigation training flights over the Gulf of Mexico training new Navy pilots. The planes mission was manly sub hunting and bombing them during the war. Half of the flight I was the radioman and the other half the radar operator. That particular model had to land and take off in the water as it had no landing gear. We had special beaching gear that was attached while we were still floating to get us on to dry land. There is only one of these aircraft that still exists it's at Davis Monthum AFB Arizona but is the version built with landing gear it could land on runways or water.

The 12 year old boys in 1941 may have seen the wreckage of a metal object that they couldn't identify, so they described it as strange orange Japanese bicycles. It could have been a complex classified weapon with a tubular frame, pressure tubes, and wheels to move it around.

Another Bay Area crash site west of Woodside California and west of Skyline Blvd occurred October 23 1953. A British Commonwealth Pacific Airlines DC6 with 8 crew and 11 passengers including a budding, and now famous concert pianist William Kapell 31, perished while returning from a concert tour in Australia. His recordings are highly revered to this day. Their approach to San Francisco Airport (SFO) was too low over the coast range and they ran into redwood trees crashing west of Skeggs Point on the Skyline Blvd. There is now a El Corte Madera Open Space Preserve trail trail leading there known as the Resolution Trail after the name used on the aircraft registration number VH-BPE.

God made all people from one man, Adam. All people are brothers.
The God saves people by preaching (1st Corinthians 1: 21, John 6: 45, Isaiah 54: 13). He has nothing to do with novaday's wars.
Unfortunately, the lying and corrupt clergy is silent about this. They even bless racists and nazis in the name of God. Then deceived people hate and kill their brothers.
The problem is that the Devil rules the world. He is a liar and a murderer. This is why deception and violence are everywhere. This is the reason why people cry over stray cats and hate their brothers. This is the reason why Hitler got the power, but Christ was executed as "blasphemer" and "rioter" by denunciation of clergy. This is the reason why the whole world is Sodom.
That's why we have the Gospel about the Kingdom of God. Jehovah will put everything in order. He has anointed the king, Jesus Christ. The dead will rise and we will meet our loved ones again! :-)

I have seen the aircraft radial engine that was said to have fallen off a bomber. Every few winters, Mt Tam does get a light dusting of snow. The old inn at West Point, used to be a rail station for the gravity train that took passengers up and then the cars coasted down to Mill Valley sans engine! Another interesting place that is long gone is the original Mountain Home Inn. Several old buildings that housed a German bar and restaurant. A really fun place that was was replaced in the late 70’s (if I recall) with the current botiquey place. Thanks again!

I was probably close to her age and I can't imagine the fear she went through during the attack. Even worse, I wonder how she navigated life after that. It changed something about her forever. Back then the U.S. had a few high profile murderous monsters traveling in the shadows. Believe it or not before that, we felt safe hitchhiking, traveling the roads and just believing in the 'summer of love.' I'm so thankful she managed to survive. My heart hurts for her. When will we ever learn?😢

@@SparkyTuttle It certainly changed her, she developed health problems that became chronic and eventually lead to her death. Before the attack the sleepy little town we lived in was one of those places where no one locked their doors. After it was heavy door locks, always wary of people how came to the door. It affected me as well, I was a sophomore in High School. It caused me to be drawn into career in law enforcement. The REAL shame is my mom died in 1987, and this evil POS is still alive and living on Death Row.

      @SparkyTuttle 2 місяці тому

@@BitterWaterRanch , I'm honestly heartbroken for this tragedy happening to your family. I've said for a long time that murderers don't just murder the victim, their actions reverberate like the rings in water after a stone has been tossed. I've wondered how many family members and close friends of the victim have become completely different from what their lives were on track to be. This can go on for generations. Like suddenly a grandson becomes violent or a close friend has a daughter who goes into law. In otherwords, we often just count the victim as one , when in truth it can be many. I realize your mother wasn't murdered on that day but parts of her soul was destroyed. And in truth, you too suffered. Even more telling, the town also changed. What an evil situation. Now, here's where many disagree with me but I 100% believe that if a person has been found, with out a doubt and without corruption coming from the law, then I believe in the dxxth penalty. I understand there are some there that were accused falsely, I would put measures in place to prevent that. But, this garbage need not feel the light of any other day. Thank you for letting me know how it turned out for your family. I hope you have worked through your heart enough that you have found some peace. Our justice system is better than most but it needs some major changes. I'm old but maybe you have children who can move in that direction. I wish you and all those you love find some blessings in every day. You are not lost as long as someone sees you. I see you.

One woman who survived an attack from him was Lois Rinna. A few years later she gave birth to Lisa Rinna of Melrose Place/Real Housewives fame.

Some people say they can't see the forest for the trees. I hope you can see the forest.
Aside from staring at your lovely face I like seeing the forest after so much desolation and I hope you show us more beautiful San Francisco scenery.

Sarah FWIW that "fiberglass" fabric you picked up was most likely rubberized asbestos fabric, often used around engine cowls and landing gear doors where a flexible, heat resistant seal was needed.

The green coating on the aluminum aircraft parts is called zinc chromate, an anti-corrosion coating. The outside of this aircraft would have been painted Navy blue. There is apparently one remaining aircraft of this type remaining. It is on display at the Pima Air Museum, located next to the "Boneyard," at Davis-Monathan Air Force Base, Tucson, Arizona, where hundreds of military aircraft are stored. Thanks for the informative video today!
