I was active duty in the US Coast Guard for 10 years and I really hope everyone who watched this video follows the life saving advice given in the first 60 seconds. Almost without fail the SAR cases I participated in where because people greatly overestimated their skills and abilities and under estimated the weather. As the water recedes the lake bottom is less steep meaning a more pronounced drop in lvl is seen. There's no way it'll take a year to drop 20 feet when it's dropping 2-3 feet per week now. As it gets shallower the drop will be faster. Evaporation also speeds up as there more and more shallows that heat.

As long as humans are using it for a water supply, it's going to go down of course. People blame this on climate change but all of the lakes near me have been the same depth since the early-90's (when I was a teenager) and some may actually be a bit higher as they have been flooding campsites regularly every spring/early summer. When your siphoning water to use for the general populace what do you expect? Las Vegas alone gets 90% of it's water from Lake Mead.

Crazy to see how fast that lake is dropping in Western Australia we have desalination plants that produce fresh water to top up our water supplies. We also have water restrictions where you have to turn off reticulation systems over a few months and are only allowed only to water between 6pm and 6am 2 days a week on the days allowed according to the first number of your house. We also have to pay for the usage so the more you use the more it costs and it gets very expensive. Plus if you have a bore(well) you could water 3 times but this coming summer that’s changing to 2 days as well as so many people have them and that impacts on the ground water levels which also affects the aquifers as our water corporation uses some underground water to help supply water also. Our dams are only for water usage here but there is one down south that is available for recreation purposes like Lake Mead but nowhere as huge of course . Maybe they need to put water restrictions so that helps to keep the levels from dropping so much they have to do that in parts of Australia where the supply isn’t very big sometimes.
Here in So Cal we have emergency water restrictions in place. Washing cars at home or washing off driveways has been prohibited for years. Recently we went to watering outdoors only two days a week for 8 min. No more lawns. No watering ornamental grass at businesses or public spaces. Tickets and fines and limiters put on residential meters if you violate. Everyone I know doing whatever possible to conserve. Buckets in the shower to capture cold water, bucket in the kitchen by the sink.

They haven’t mentioned climate change yet which is disappointing
@@yomamapwnz because it's not really about climate change. It is about the Hoover Dam supplying water for 10x more people than it was designed to. People were sipping water out of the river, now they are gulping it. Simple as that, really.

Here's a hint, "climate change" has absolutely nothing to do with it. Just like the "ice age" was fake. Just like aL gOrE shutting down most of his agencies after pocketing untold millions.
Just like all the leftist elites who pretend to care about the environment while leaving the biggest carbon footprints of all! Lake mead ia full of man made holes, so technically it is completely possible that the lake's being drained...

I was active duty in the US Coast Guard for 10 years and I really hope everyone who watched this video follows the life saving advice given in the first 60 seconds. Almost without fail the SAR cases I participated in where because people greatly overestimated their skills and abilities and under estimated the weather. If its your boat and its your responsibility to make the GO / NO GO call if people end up getting hurt or killed it is 100% your fault, full stop.

The state is responsible. Awful water management.
It's poor water management and a lack of infrastructure improvements since the 70's. A man made crisis because droughts happen but people can plan for the future. It's stupid.
@@chopperdeath Easy to blame the state. In the end, it's people that just waste water left and right. Watering grass lawns, huge farms growing shit that shouldn't even grow there... it's a long list. Hmmm... okay.

@@Travybear1989 Agree on the use factor. Too many lawns, too many golf courses for fatcats eg: hotels, golf resorts, too much growth allowing non-xeriscape yards and water waste in general. Watching all of the boats appear is cool but very scary for those who rely on that water. Wondering if it ever fill again. I hope you continue to do these videos as long as you can so not only for us to see but also a digital log of the way our country and world continues to change weather good or bad. Thank you for doing this.
How about a little hint on how it filled up? as that lake is a fairly modern addition to the local systems.
Right it’s the climates fault has nothing to with people squandering the water for there own personal gain like almond trees in the dessert.
Its all manmade water reservoirs, they started working on it when Nevada had like 91k people and the West areas it would be supporting was like 1 million tops, today Nevada is at 3M and the supporting area is over like 25M....yeah 100% climate change fault, climate change can be natural change btw, and so has nothing to do with it is now over what it was made to support.

Get ready for fires to burn all over.
They started putting restrictions in place here too but they should've decades ago
