Just found your channel... love what you are stitching on... up until a couple of months ago I wasn't interested in reproduction samplers but somehow I've ordered 3 charts in the last 2 weeks... LOL.. that G. Leger sampler is gorgeous... I love the pear and the house and that curly-que alphabet... think I need to add it to my stash. As for the stitch you were describing... I think it is called the rice stitch... google that and see if it matches. Back in the 80s' before I did cross stitching I did needlepoint and I used a lot of decorative stitches and the stitch you described sounds like one I played with back then. ok - now I have to binge watch the rest of your episodes... thanks for sharing!
I think flosstube has enabled many of us. Back in the 80s i did one project at a time. I just started stitching again in February of this year. I am throughly enjoying it this time around
Hi, think I'm caught up watching all your Flosstube episodes. Love what you are stitching and your approach to each project. You mentioned a stitch on the project from Silver Needle/Kitten Stitcher. Not sure if any of the 322 (!!) commentators were able to identify it, but it sounds like the rice stitch.
What a great way to spend time on a dull Saturday afternoon listening to you and admiring your cross stitch. Traditionally we don't decorate until the Sunday before Christmas. This is much earlier than in my childhood. There were no decorations when I went to bed on Christmas eve hanging my stocking on the foot of the bed. When I got up on Christmas day the house was decorated and the tree sparkling with lights. Just magic.🇬🇧
Back in the 80's, I only ever stitched on one project at a time. It never occurred to me to do multiple! I ALWAYS had the next project in mind & maybe even kitted/partially kitted up. I have to say though, my stitching time was essentially during nap time for kiddos, & early AMs on weekends before anyone woke up!! That stolen time was so wonderful!! Now in retirement, I have as much time as I want.......how did this time in my life come sooooo quickly!!??? I must say I miss that stolen time, & my precious babies!!
Lori Holt explained her “scheduling” in a recent Flosstube. It made a lot of sense to me as there were days in the month designated for specific projects and Sundays were designated for religious project, leaving the rest of the week / month to stitch project of choice. She explains it so much better than me, so worth a watch. Thanks so much, Sheri.
Another fabulous flosstube, Sheri! You have a knack for locating patterns that I have never seen and they are all so beautiful! I remember in the 80's and 90's also only working on one project at a time. I still kind of do that - maybe I will have 2 going concurrently. I have only 3 projects on my "radar" right now, though I have seen dozens of beautiful patterns on flosstubes that I would love to do "some day"! Guess it's the difference between UA-cam in the 2000's and just friend-to-friend interaction in the 80's & 90's - lots more to see and want now! I (like many) am not just a one-craft crafter - into lots of other things that require time & money, too! Sure would simplify matters to just be in to one thing! 🤣
Back in the 80s, one project at a time. Who had the resources to indulge in more? Even now. The stitch you asked about - a cross with crossed corners is a rice stitch, and so much fun!
I started stitching in the 70's and I was definitely a one project stitcher. I think everyone was. I would have never thought of starting a 2nd project until I was finished with the 1st. I'm trying to keep on my immediate radar only what is coming next or needed next for gifts. I only kit up those few projects which keeps all other threads organized and together. This seems to help me keep track of what I have and not buy multiple threads. I'm not sure about decorating this year. My 98 year old mother has Covid along with nearly 20 others in her nursing home. I also have it and with that I have been allowed back in to see her which has been a blessing I believe for both of us. What a different year for us all. We must remain to be thankful for the season of life that we are in. Have a blessed Thanksgiving!
Oh Deana - I'm so sorry to hear you and your mom (and all of those residents) have Covid. I'm glad that you can visit with her, as I'm sure that is a comfort to her. Sending you a hug!
I started cross stitching in college in the 90s. I was a monogamous stitcher up until I discovered flosstube about 2 years ago. Now I limit myself to 10 wips. I tend to gravitate towards large samplers. The largest one I'm working on right now is Ann Dale by the Shakespeare's Peddler. I have 8 large samplers in progress right now so I save my 2 extra slots for smalls when I just need a little project so I can have a quick completion. I do not decorate for the various seasons throughout the year. I only decorate for Christmas. We put our Christmas decorations up the weekend before Thanksgiving and then I usually procrastinate on taking them down until mid January.
Another great video. We don’t decorate for Christmas until December 1st. Thank you for sharing your beautiful projects and for sharing your time. Lovely finishes!
I started cross stitching in the mid 70s and worked on one project at a time. In the 80s I started needlepoint and found myself with a plethora of started projects as I attended classes and guild meetings. I still love needlepoint (charted and painted canvas) but this year turned back to cross stitch because of it's simplicity and joy in seeing the design come up without any decisions on my part of which stitch to use where. I pulled out many charts in May to stitch this year and have completed many of them. I still have only 1 or 2 main projects to stitch on at a time, but my stash has exploded since I found flosstube.
I have finished decorating 3 outside pots with spruce tips and such, along with 2 flower boxes. We wait until the day after Christmas to begin inside decorating and putting up our tree. Currently I have 3 dedicated projects that I’m working. One is nearly ready to take to the framers.Thank you so much for your podcasts! I look forward to each and every one.
Lovely video🙂All your stitching is beautiful. I started stitching in 1994 in my middle thirties.I picked up a little kit that became a thank you card for my younger son's class teacher. Until I joined a stitching forum in around 2007 I was a one project stitcher.Exposed to so many lovely, varied designs and website reccomendations I took on more projects, not loads but four to five at a time and realised over time I was happiest with no more than three on the go,preferably one or two.I totally enjoy the process. These days I do not purchase just for the sake of it or to have a set of a designers' pieces I will never have time to stitch, however, I love browsing.I knit too, since 2017 so I need time to enjoy my new found knitting joy and yarn acquisition!
Yes, I also stitched one project at a time in the 70s and 80s. I realize now, that’s how I actually got things finished and on my wall!! I may have to get back to that process......but with floss tube, Instagram and all the great designers today, there are so many more wonderful distractions!!
We put the outside lights up yesterday and today. Christmas tree up next weekend. I have 3 or 4 on my immediate radar. Lovely finishes. Thanks for sharing and happy stitching!
Hi. Really enjoy your videos and your stitching is beautiful! Just an FYI on the Reflets de Soie Sampler ... it’s a French sampler. The maker is G Leger. You referred to “annee” as the maker which is incorrect. The English translation of “annee” is “year.” Hence, annee 1898 means year 1898. G Leger stitched the piece in 1898.
Back in the day I worked on 1 project at a time there wasn't really much to choose from not like now. Now I have about 6 partly kitted and all need something as post is so slow .I have had trouble getting material and threads so hopefully I can get them all soon. I also have about 4 kits that I haven't opened yet. Most of my stuff is all coming from overseas so post can take about 6 weeks. As for Christmas decorations we always started the 1st of December , but this year has been so bad that I have started about a week ago and slowly putting everything out. We are putting the tree up tomorrow and then I'm going to do presents and lets hope everything goes well with 3 cats and nothing gets shredded. Love watching your flosstube videos.
Sheri, first off, thank you so much for the gift certificate from the Attic. That was such a generous, and special gift. I have sent you an email with my home address. To answer your first question, I did stitch in the 80's and 90's. I only stitched on one project at a time. I still only stitch on one main project at a time. I may do a little project in between, but I mostly stitch on only one. I'm sure floss tube has played a large role in why people are stitching more, and working on multiple patterns. There are so many patterns that are "irresistible". I'm "guilty" of buying way more patterns than I probably will ever stitch, but I have fun getting them. To answer your second question, yes, I used to doodle in junior high school just like you did. How funny--I haven't thought about that, well, since junior high school. lol I love your Button Up by Prairie Schooler, and Thomas the turkey. They are both so cute. To answer your next question, we usually put up our Christmas decorations the day after Thanksgiving. I may start doing a little early next week. It's hard to believe that next Thursday is Thanksgiving. Well, Sheri, until next time, have fun stitching, and knitting. Diane
I loved your video. I just finished last night the Feast of Friendship. The colors are beautiful. We decorate after Thanksgiving. Thanks for sharing your time and talents with us.
Hi Sheri! I’ve always resisted putting up the decorations before Thanksgiving, but I agree that this year is different and I plan to put up the lights and tree this Wednesday, just before Thanksgiving. Have a blessed holiday and a wonderful couple of weeks.
I wasn't old enough to have a choice in projects in the 90s, but my grandmother had several things going at a time. She had one that she'd work on with me, one she'd do on her own, and then smalls that she'd do for charity or a church bazaar or something.
I would only do one at a time, but there was definitely not the abundance of choices available like we have today, or the floss tubers that are sooo enabling! 😉😁
Hi Sherri We normally put up Christmas beginning Sat after Thanksgiving - or at least buy tree and get decorations down from the attic. A little is done every day till about the 15th. This is the season for projects. I started crossstitch in the 80s and did one project at a time. I still only have a few going at one time but, have a really big stash. I really need to stop buying. It is getting as bad as buying books. Thanks so much for your Floss Tube. I’m really enjoying it!
I only did 1 at a time in the 80 and 90. Which I rarely finished. I received your advent packages and they are so cute. I can hardly wait for December. I enjoyed the packaging so much it gave me the idea to do one for a dear friend this Christmas. I’m having so much fun. Thank you
I really enjoy your videos! There are 5 pieces on my radar, all earmarked for 2021. I usually never have more than 2 WIPS. Back in the 80s and early 90s I was a monogamous stitcher. I had no stash to tempt me. How dull! 🙂
Until covid I was pretty much a monogamous stitcher. Now I have adhd with projects. I want to kit up and start all the things but have very little interest finishing them. I dedicate Saturday and Sunday daylight hours to working on black fabric. I am also a seasonal stitcher with adding 1 project from other seasons to stitch on like the housewives do
I came across your UA-cam channel today and glad I did because I needed one more enabler in my life.....lol!!! I've subscribed and look forward to your future videos. I too started stitching years ago then stopped. Started back in late 2018 and what a different world. I never got rid of any of my stitching stuff. I've spent a fortune on patterns, fabric and thread building my stash because I love everything!!
I normally decorate the first weekend in December and put my tree up the weekend before Christmas. I don't plan on doing anything different this year. My husband wouldn't be happy if I decorated any earlier. I started stitching in the 80s and never stitched more then one project at a time. I still pretty much do one project at a time but I have several projects started right now. I think it is the pandemic making me a little squirrelly. 😄
Love your idea of pulling out a thread, that is so much easier than sewing a guide thread into the fabric just to remove it later. Saves so much time, thank you! Normally I put all Fall decorations away and the tree up on Black Friday. But this year all the Fall went away last weekend and Christmas came out, the tree will be going up today. I love Christmas decorations and was really ready to put them up. I don't do Halloween, just Fall decorations in general and they have been up since the middle of September so I really needed Christmas to come earlier this year! Looking forward to seeing all your framed pieces. Kim
So funny... this year we have already put up our decorations that is a first for us! My husband always likes to wait till Thanksgiving and then we go mad getting the home decorations done...I will take several days adding things but this year it felt better to do now and have to say it has brightened our spirits also ! So, stars would be great . always enjoy watching you videos, thanks
Another Sheri video 😍 You touch so many interesting subjects. I would call myself a monogamous stitcher. Starting one project, finishing it, on to the next project. And I simply had my finishes (at least the ones I gave away) framed. Now, flosstube comes along opening my eyes that there are so many ways of stitching and finishing. My on the radar projects are: temperaturw tree by Stitchinmommy (I stitch on it on the weekends), Pandemic (for Mondays), and my main focus piece Starry night. I also started stitching Snow village with my daughter. But she's achieved a lot more so far. 😂 I didn't really go for Hallowe'en this year. But in the last week of October, I thought it's time for Christmas decoration. I completely forgot there is a whole month of November. I agree with you, people decorate kinda early this year. I think it's because the Christmas season stands for peace, light, happiness, calm. And that's what everyone needs. BTW: when watching flosstube videos, I can't stitch. But I knit. I am knitting a scarf which is a charity project for "Save the Children. Stay safe, happy stitching / knitting and see you in your next video. Michaela
Hi Michaela! Nice to hear from you. Funny that you were ready to decorate for Christmas right at the end of October. But I think you are not alone in that!
Yes, back in the day I only stitched one piece at a time. I should finish feast oh friendship tomorrow - that’s one BIG house to stitch. 🥴. We put Christmas decorations up after Thanksgiving, otherwise I get tired of ever before Christmas even gets here. Although, I would mind putting lights up early - that’s a really good idea.
Great video. Thank you. I stitched in the 80's and was very definitely a monogamous stitcher. Only became a crazy start all the things when I started watching flosstube!!! You are great enablers. I think 6 things on my immediate radar is fair enough. I usually work on at least 12 projects a month as I follow Jen Lee's acrostic so have to do more than just a couple. I like working on different things actually.
I usually decorate the day after Thanksgiving. However, I have been thinking about options earlier this year....and will be heading out to Hobby Lobby on Monday (mostly for outdoor garlands). You have so many wonderful finishes and in progress projects! Excellent choice to splurge on silks for Smith Sampler! That's been on my radar as well.... there's also another sampler with a giant beehive in the center that I continue to admire. Always a pleasure to sit with morning coffee and watch your flosstube! Thanks so much for the happies! :-)
I did the same oldie but goodie! I still love it, too. Like you, I am not a frilly person either, but I find I am going outside the box a little this year. I also stitched only one project at a time in the 80’s. Again, this year, I find myself having about 3 pieces going at a time. I like having a project to go to directly when finishing one. Got my sister to try having more than one project at a time, too! Enjoy your videos so much. Thanks for sharing.
Another very enjoyable video, thanks so much. I stitched in the 90's, mostly kits bought at Michael's. Dimensions, Sunset, and one other brand were most available. Came with unsorted floss, usually 14 ct Aida. Sorting the threads was dreadful. I now have more WIPS or kitted up projects waiting in the wings than I'm comfortable dealing with. My goal is to finish all that I've started and/or kitted before I buy another chart or skein of floss. Having too many projects makes me jittery. Two a month would be ideal for me. I don't decorate for Christmas until the second week of Dec. I no longer put up a tree (it's just the two of us old folks, too much work) but love little displays around the house. Looking forward to your next video.
Love your videos! Back when I started stitching (late 80's), I definitely only worked one project at a time. I did however, acquire quite a stash. Then I took a cross stitch hiatus for many years while my daughter was growing up. Then, my eyes got bad and I just thought..well, that's it. Can't stitch anymore. I got rid of a lot of my stash on a cross stitch message board I can't even recall the name of now. But. One of the charts that I unloaded, was one you shared. I love Stars! Owned it and gave it up, now I wish I didn't. Thanks to my Ott light and and magnifiers, I'm stitching again. I find myself trying to rebuild some of the stash I had back then. I did manage to find some Dragon Dreams charts, and K & D Designs. I still tend to be almost a monogamous stitcher, but I will throw in something else to liven things up. Happy Thanksgiving! ~ Jane.
I love your Snow Day and the changes you made to the saying! Feast of Friendship is such a beautiful sampler. G. Leger is gorgeous! In the 80's I stitched one thing at a time and finished it before starting another project. We have Thanksgiving in October in Canada so I usually have Christmas decorations up between the middle and third week of December. I love to look at them and like to have them up before I start baking or getting into other Christmas festivities. It puts me in the spirit and makes me feel less rushed as the season unfolds. Stay safe and happy stitching!
Back then I did one project at a time. Now I have two or three going and more waiting in my stash. Then there are those I have in mind but do not yet have in my possession.
Back in the day I would work on one project at a time. I had a magazine subscription but otherwise no stash. I bought what I needed for each new project. I don't remember having many fabric choices. Also it seems finishing was limited as well: Framed or a Pillow. Maybe I was not very adventurous. I LOVE your new saying on the Snow Day pattern. It would have taken me a week just to change the wording. My "immediate" radar is very fluid. I have maybe 2 must get stated projects and 20 more in the queue. I often rearrange the order of them depending on what new has caught my eye or the season.
Only one project at a time back then. Sometimes I would cut a piece of Aida and put it in the magazine where my next project was located. I think it was simpler, less confusing and I'm thinking of doing it that way again. That doesn't mean I don't have a basket full ready to stitch when one is done though.....😉
I’ve been cross stitching since the ‘80’s and I have only worked in one project at a time. Never would have thought to work on two or more at a time - I think if I did that, there would be lots of unfinished project in my stash!! Lol
Wonderful time shared with you! We usually put our Christmas decorations up Thanksgiving evening and I have done that for 60 years, but this year I just needed the cheer! We put our tree up two weeks ago, ornaments are waiting until Thanksgiving, and I put up the rest of our decorations last weekend! It’s so wonderful and like a big hug! Loving it all even more than normal! Happy Thanksgiving to you!💕
I always look forward to your videos. Love to see what you're working on and your finishes. Your stitching is just beautiful. Back in the 70's I only stitched one project at a time. These days I have 2-3 WIPS that are large, so I rotate them with some smalls in between. That way I feel like I finish some things and don't get bored with the larger projects.
I wait until after Thanksgiving to decorate for Christmas. We do have our white outside lights up which I like to leave up through the end of February. I still tend to work on one or two projects at a time: a larger one at home and smaller ones when I travel.
I only did one project back in the 70's...it was a full coverage owl...and only until 2 years ago did I pick it back up and have been going strong on so many beautiful projects.
In the 80s and 90s I only worked on one project at a time! If I was stitching from a leaflet, I would do the entire leaflet before moving on! Can I tell you how much I never want to stitch another Teddy bear 🧸🤣 I currently have 10 active WIPs (thanks to Flosstube) which I rotate through using a wheel! I am having so much fun! 💝
Love your videos. I also have d leger patterns, have silks on my Xmas list. I put my Xmas decor up after Thanksgiving. In the 80’s only did one project at a time, since I have starting stitching again I have 2 projects going. I don’t understand programing the time, days and projects you work on, this is like the “work world” and I am retired and this is a leisure hobby not a race. Although I do love seeing all the finished pieces.
When I started stitching in the 80s, I usually only had one project at a time. If I was working on a big project, I sometimes would do something small if I got tired of the bigger project but that's about it. I have too many projects to count on my immediate radar, but want to finish up a few before starting any new projects. I have about 40 WIPS right now but really would like to get that number a little smaller.
We like to have our outside lights ready to turn on right after Thanksgiving. The tree will come sometime after that. I am not in any rush to take things done after Christmas either. I just finished watching all of your floss tubes!! My style is similar to yours. Yes I had both those books, and had gotten rid of them when I wasn't stitching. Stars, season.
Thanks for watching all of the videos! I wish we could all go back and enjoy all of the books and patterns we have since gotten rid of. Oh well. There are always new ones to buy!
In the 90's I was a young single mom so I did not have much money so I only stitched one project at a time and I would try to buy extra floss so that I would eventually have all the colors. Now I am in a better situation and I have all of the dmc floss. So I stitch one project a day for each of the seven days of the week. Its great because I am finishing things faster because I look forward each day to the different project.
I'm interested in Stars pls. Regarding Christmas decorations, we usually put them up Thanksgiving weekend BUT, as you say, this year might inspire me to start tomorrow! Enjoyed your video as usual. Looking forward to your next video---ideas!! Sounds intriguing. And I really appreciate your words about fully finishing a project to honor it. I really need to do that! Have a great Thanksgiving!!
I think that's something that has changed, too. We used to not even decorate much for Christmas when I was growing up, but what we put up went up just a week or so before Christmas, like you!
Normally i wait until thanksgiving to put up Christmas decorations but this year i put them up early. I am quarantined with a mild case of covid so i had to have something to do lol. I havent turned on lights outside but my 2 trees are up. It is helping to bring me cheer after this awful year.
How did I miss meeting you at the retreat? I wish we had had more time to swap tables. I sat up front by Marlene Bush. I have not done my little cushion with the rice stitch yet- but hope to soon. Love your stitching- thanks for sharing - you always inspire me ❤️😊
Oh,yes..70s and 80s just had one project..finished it..started or bought the next....seems like we all changed gradually at same time and didn’t even plan that..my...how we have grown! Stars and season look like a nice project to stitch..oh, and I have only 2 on my immediate radar..one is pandemic..kitted up..
Stitching from 1976! Charts were scarce as well as shops! It was a time for me that I completed a project one at a time, and often repeated the chart for gifts. Now? I have recently stopped one project to pick up Christmas ornaments for our grands. Still stitch a project --pretty much stitch til done, then start another.....however,while only being true to one I am hooked on buying future projects....I'm stocked and ready for my, like..... 200th birthday!!
Thanks Sherri for the awesome video...in the 80’s I bought, finished, and FFOed one project at a time...I do like the Stars booklet...I usually let my grandgirls decorate for Christmas when they arrive in December...they do such a great job...I do like stitching houses too...Happy Thanksgiving❣️
Hi Sheri! With the list of Christmas gifts to make, I have found the capacity of my immediate radar- close to 4 or 5 projects. And I know because I keep re discovering projects that I didnt mean to put down when I sift through my craft stuff! As for christmas decorations, if it were up to me, I'd have them up all year round. They're just so happy! And I feel like a grinch when I take a christmas tree down lol. This year for COVID birthdays though, since we had limited ways to make them special, I pulled out our little tree and just temporarily renamed it to the birthday tree. So we have had a christmas tree up for about half the year already 😂
I thoroughly enjoyed your latest video... I was definitely stitching by the 80's, and worked on only one project at a time. I had a small stash, but there wasn't a whole lot available back then! Oh my, I have that same Cinnamon Heart chart! I enjoyed seeing it stitched up. So pretty. I have a half-dozen of their charts. Thank you for the tip about pulling a thread at the fold of each side of a finished piece! That's going to save me a lot of time. I used to do a running stitch with contrasting thread - so time consuming. Also, just yesterday I came across an ugly brown clipboard in my shed... I'm going to Mod Podge it like yours. :-) To answer your questions, I don't decorate for Christmas until at least the day after Thanksgiving, otherwise I get SICK of anything Christmas by the time it arrives. And, I can't have more than a few projects on my immediate radar, otherwise I get overwhelmed. As it is, I have way too many WIPs right now, so I love the idea of WIP Wednesday. :-) Have a Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving! Oh, and I can't wait for your next video... you did great teasers. ;-)
I was a monogamous stitcher in the 80's but now I work on about two a month. I want to see a finish now and then. I was at that silver needle retreat and that is called the rice stitch. Sorry I didn't meet you or maybe we did meet. Have a nice thanksgiving.
I was stitching in the 80s and 90s and was definitely a one project at a time stitcher and had very little stash apart from the piece I was working on. Then I discovered Yahoo groups and joined a few stitchy groups. That was when my ‘trouble’ started as I became aware of the huge variety of charts, fabric and threads that were out there and just had to have some for myself! Years along the road of course I found Flosstube, Instagram etc and got in even deeper. I don’t have a huge stash compared to some stitchers but I definitely have more than I’ll ever have the time to stitch! Typically, I stitch on 5 or 6 projects each month and give them about 5 days each. Christmas decorations - I usually get them out at the beginning of December but with all the talk going on, I might be tempted to get them out earlier this year! Thanks for another great video!
I'm behind watching flosstube! I have the Cinnamon Hearts patterns too and I bought mine in Ames! The one you stitched, I am still considering stitching because I just really like that one but just have never gotten it done. I only stitched one project at a time in the 80's & 90's.
I never even thought of stitching more than one project in the 70s or 80s. Sometimes having more than a couple of projects right now can make me stressed...maybe It’s because I am driven by completion of the projects and less about the process. What is your local LNS? I am always looking for local businesses to support... Thanks for the video Sheri... your insight and comments are always refreshing! Lori
I did stitch in the 80's and only stitched one project at a time. Even if I had a book with several patterns, I only did one at a time. I did start decorating this past week, earlier than ever. However, I will wait on the tree until after Thanksgiving. I really enjoy your videos. Thank you!
I was at the Silver Needle at the retreat as well!!! The stitch was the rice stitch! It was my 1st retreat. Love your channel! I was a monogamous stitcher in the 80’s but no more!
Hello. I just found your channel and I enjoyed my visit. I usually decorate for Christmas before Thanksgiving. I have a cookie exchange at my home and like to get it all decorated early. No exchange this year. But I needed something happy. I look forward to your next video. Happy stitching ❤️
I'm new so I'm like a kid in a candy store. Everything is on my radar! lol I'm doing my first cross stitch ornament now. I would love to win the Star book, Thank you for your sharing kindness. DECORATING....I wanted my family to grow up with a "family tradition" that kept them all together SO, I put the tree up with lights before they get here on Thanksgiving (no matter what day they come) After the thanksgiving meal, each family member has their own personal box of ornaments for them to decorate my tree. It's become a cherished memory they look forward too every year. My grandkids have already begun to ask about picking their new ornament to add to the tree. I love making these family memories
hey Sheri, Your videos are a Joy to watch. Your work is beautiful!. Always start right after Thanksgiving on Christmas . Cooking, making Wreaths for the house 3 to 4. Tamale making is big at my house. Love the Stars.
Christmas is something I usually do first of December, but my Armenian lace teacher never decorates because the holiday is about Christ's birthday and that is enough for her. I have 1 cross stitch going 3 bobbin lace patterns going one piece of lace just needs to be attached to a dresser scarf, an Armenian rug, hardanger and 2 quilts in process sorry my work is all over many styles of work. Just added an afagan knitted project for our anniversary .
The 80's and the present are worlds apart aren't they. I taught myself from library books. I believe there was only Aida (UK) I stayed with just one project ...until I found another one that I had to do. I certainly had more finishes in those days lol. I have none in my home as I always gifted them to friends and family. The most recent finish was a wedding sampler for my son Oct.2019 lol. My concentration has left me. Enjoy all your stitches. Take care
I always stitched only one project, even many years ago. Flosstuber Stitching by the Shore showed the turkey from the Prairie Schooler pattern you showed. It turned out really nice. She shows it in her video 39. I only have 1 or 2 projects on my immediate radar as I change my mind a lot and don't like to be all over the place. I have the Smith Sampler too and have been wanting to stitch that for some time now.
You should pull that Smith Sampler out and stitch along with me! (I'm unpredictable and not a good Stitch-A-Long person, but we could start together, anyway!)
We usually decorate the weekend following Thanksgiving. I love Stars and Seasons, both! Loving your progress. Let me know if you need someone to do finishing for you! I'd be happy to help you along...
We do our decorations for Christmas starting the weekend after Thanksgiving. I love the fall season so much I just don’t rush into Christmas. Plus I’ve always felt that starting Christmas too early takes away from the magical feeling of something special that only happens once a year. I am a monogamous stitcher. I can only seem to focus on one project until it’s done. Probably because I’m slow due to pain issues that limit my stitching time.
I really love the Country Forest Sampler by Cinnamon Heart Needlework that you did...would love to do it sometime. I live in a rural area of Maine and it is so appropriate. I, most always, put decorations and lights on my deck and 3 season porch before Thanksgiving. I have a full size tree for my porch that I decorate with bird ornaments and pinecones; and leave it up til March. It has LED lights with 2 options: so I use the white lights before and after December, and the colored lights for the whole month of December. Actually found some lovely ornaments tonight that I ordered...can't wait for them to come in. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!
Stars would be nice. I live in Alaska and we have plenty of bears here. We put up our Christmas decorations the day after Christmas. We put our lights up in Nov because we have more darkness starting in Nov. I really like your videos.
The day after Christmas? Or the day after Thanksgiving? I'm just asking because you're the second person to say the day after Christmas and I'm wondering if there is a tradition that I'm missing?
Excellent fabric choice on Button Up! I find myself liking the fabrics chosen by flosstubers more than the ones in the original model. It feels like most of the patterns call for white fabric, even when it doesn't allow the lighter floss colors to show up. I wonder if there's a reason for that? Maybe just because white is easier to come by? I have plenty of Christmas spirit this year, but I find myself reluctant to put up the tree and stars, because it would cut into my stitching time! I'm out of control, and have 20 or 30 projects on my immediate radar. LOL
I stitched in the 70’s and 80’s and never thought of having more than one project!!! I put my Christmas decorations out the weekend after Thanksgiving!!
Hi Sheri, Happy Thanksgiving. I remember spending a couple of nights at the Grand Canyon a few years ago and the stars looked like diamonds on black velvet. I had never seen so many - what a sight! Like most people back in the 80s and 90s there wasn’t the range of cross stitch available as there is now so I only ever did one project at a time. Now that I have returned to cross stitch this year, I am still on the one project but have a couple waiting to start. Look forward to your next video. Take care and stay safe. With best wishes from Down Under 😘💕🦃🇦🇺
My favorite season is the fall. I love sitting outside and looking up at the stars. In years past I have put up my Christmas tree and decoration on December 10th. This year I will start putting up my decorations right after Thanksgiving. Since I love Christmas so much I want to start early this year and enjoy them longer.
We decorate the outside the first weekend in December. The rest of the decor inside takes me awhile. I tend to be scaling down everything now. One year I never got the ornaments on the tree. Hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving. Just my husband and I this year. I’m planning on working on my Coming to America then it will be put away til next fall.
I have only worked on one project at a time but seeing a lot of people working on multiple projects is tempting. I would love Stars or Season. Like watching your videos.
I so enjoyed your video!!! I am stitching Peace and goodwill with the silks which is glorious! I was fortunate to attend that retreat at the attic. I put up my Christmas the day after thanksgiving except for this year. Christmas was up before thanksgiving! I just had to!! Happy decorating and I added that Christmas book to my Amazon wish list!! 🤗
🙂Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! I am so thankful to meet you when I found your Flosstube. Our tradition is to put our tree up the first weekend in December. We have tatted stars on garland around the foyer doorway into the living room. I have six projects on my immediate radar - Two large, two medium and two smalls. The one I am most excited about relates to enjoying the Back Porch (as I will retire the beginning of June)!
Isn't it funny how our tastes change in our pattern likes and dislikes? I've really gotten into samplers, too, over the past year or two!
I think flosstube has enabled many of us. Back in the 80s i did one project at a time. I just started stitching again in February of this year. I am throughly enjoying it this time around
Starting stitching in 1980. Always done one at a time but may change this year because of sals I’m interested in.
Trying to catch up with your wonderful floss tubes. The description of a stitch in the “little” sounds like the rice stitch.
It was - thank you! Now I need to find another pattern that uses those. They were fun to do. Thanks for watching!
I have the same oldie but goodie hanging on the wall. 😻
It was the Rice Stitch!
You are one of the true stars of UA-cam. I am always inspired by your videos. Thank you.
You are so sweet. I'm so glad you watch, Corinne!
That sounds like a delightful way to wake up on Christmas morning!
I remember those days during nap times and after bed times! Best stitching time ever. :-)
I love her FlossTubes! I never miss a one because I come away so inspired. 🙂
I have thought of that, too - how simple it would be to only do one craft. But I can't pick any that I want to give up!
Back in the 80s, one project at a time. Who had the resources to indulge in more? Even now.
The stitch you asked about - a cross with crossed corners is a rice stitch, and so much fun!
I think it was a matter of resources and also the concept of "stash" just wasn't really a thing back then. I think I like it better now!
@@ColoradoCrossStitcher Thanks so much. I appreciate your kindness!
FlossTube is a huge enabler, isn't it?
I have finished decorating 3 outside pots with spruce tips and such, along with 2 flower boxes. We wait until the day after Christmas to begin inside decorating and putting up our tree. Currently I have 3 dedicated projects that I’m working. One is nearly ready to take to the framers.Thank you so much for your podcasts! I look forward to each and every one.
I so appreciate you watching them, Pat!
I am a process stitcher, too, Lesley. So glad we have stitching!
Yes, I also stitched one project at a time in the 70s and 80s. I realize now, that’s how I actually got things finished and on my wall!!
I may have to get back to that process......but with floss tube, Instagram and all the great designers today, there are so many more wonderful distractions!!
Ha - good point on finishing one at a time!
Back in the 80s- just 1 project at a time. Now I'm trying to finishe old wips along with 1 new project.
Well a couple of people have pointed that out. And I'm a little disappointed that this sampler wasn't done by Annee!!
Diane
So happy that you won, Diane! I emailed you!
I love that she had choices, even back then!
I would only do one at a time, but there was definitely not the abundance of choices available like we have today, or the floss tubers that are sooo enabling! 😉😁
Very true!
Hi Sherri
We normally put up Christmas beginning Sat after Thanksgiving - or at least buy tree and get decorations down from the attic.
I have so many started in all techniques. Cross stitch, needlepoint, knitting, sewing. I have worked up a schedule so I will finish.
I only did 1 at a time in the 80 and 90. Which I rarely finished. I received your advent packages and they are so cute. I can hardly wait for December. I enjoyed the packaging so much it gave me the idea to do one for a dear friend this Christmas. I’m having so much fun. Thank you
How fun that you're gnome-ing along with us, Julie. I hope you love it!
I'm so glad you found me, and thank you for subscribing, Cindy! You're right - totally different (and really fun) stitching world these days.
Kim
I think it's the year for early decorating! :-)
So funny... this year we have already put up our decorations that is a first for us! My husband always likes to wait till Thanksgiving and then we go mad getting the home decorations done...I will take several days adding things but this year it felt better to do now and have to say it has brightened our spirits also ! So, stars would be great . always enjoy watching you videos, thanks
Enjoyed watching for the first time! Your projects are so beautiful. Looking forward to seeing more.
Thanks so much for watching!
Another Sheri video 😍
You touch so many interesting subjects.
I didn't really go for Hallowe'en this year.
When I stitched back in the 90’s I only stitched one until finished, like you, I never thought to do multiple projects
Well now I am going to have to look up what that acrostic is!
Glad to hear someone else is thinking about that Smith Sampler!
Fun that your sister also enjoys stitching!
Oh, I well remember buying stitching kits and trying to sort floss. It was not fun at all!
~ Jane.
So funny that we're both wanting to rebuild some of the stash we sold. I totally get that!
I never thought about it, but I also like baking when the house is decorated for Christmas!
@@ColoradoCrossStitcher Sherri, I just realized that I said I put my Christmas decorations up in December but I meant November! Lol!!
So true on the finishing back then. It's one of the reasons I stopped stitching - I was out of wall space and places to put the finishes!
Happy Thanksgiving to you!💕
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who wanted the tree up early for the first time in my life!
I’m assuming you use the wheel to tell you which project you should work on. What a great idea.
That was kind of the thought process back then, wasn't it? You bought a pattern, and did them all. Or at least you wanted to do them all!
40 WIPs? Wow!
I like your plan of a different project a day - that's fun!
I started stitching in the late 80's and was a one-at-a-time stitcher until about 2015.
We put ours up a week before Christmas, but we leave them up until Three Kings!
I put my holiday decorations usually Thanksgiving weekend. Loved the stars patterns . Growing up it would be the week before Christmas.
I'm so glad your case of Covid has been mild, Jeanie. Hope you get better soon!
How did I miss meeting you at the retreat? I wish we had had more time to swap tables. I sat up front by Marlene Bush. I have not done my little cushion with the rice stitch yet- but hope to soon. Love your stitching- thanks for sharing - you always inspire me ❤️😊
I came up and talked to Marlene a couple of times! I was on the same side of the room, but the very back table by the windows. Next time!
Ha - me, too!
I bet they look forward to that all year long!
I love the idea of a birthday tree!
Oh, and I can't wait for your next video... you did great teasers. ;-)
I hope you have fun doing your clipboard, Joan!
I was a monogamous stitcher in the 80's but now I work on about two a month. I want to see a finish now and then. I was at that silver needle retreat and that is called the rice stitch. Sorry I didn't meet you or maybe we did meet. Have a nice thanksgiving.
Hopefully we can meet another time!
We definitely only did one project at a time in the 80s. It wasn't even a thought to do more. Love the stars pattern :) Janet
Lori
My LNS is a little shop in Greeley, CO called Country Crafts. You're so sweet to make a point to find that out and support them when you can!
I did stitch in the 80's and only stitched one project at a time. Even if I had a book with several patterns, I only did one at a time. I did start decorating this past week, earlier than ever. However, I will wait on the tree until after Thanksgiving. I really enjoy your videos. Thank you!
I did one at a time in 80s now I am at 3-4 a month now. I love looking at the stars. And I enjoy the change of the season.
I was at the Silver Needle at the retreat as well!!! The stitch was the rice stitch! It was my 1st retreat. Love your channel! I was a monogamous stitcher in the 80’s but no more!
Well shoot - wish we could have met!
Hi sherrie loved all your new things you do such wonderful things have a happy thanksgiving stay well and safe Angela in ireland 🇮🇪🙃
Hello. I just found your channel and I enjoyed my visit. I usually decorate for Christmas before Thanksgiving. I have a cookie exchange at my home and like to get it all decorated early. No exchange this year. But I needed something happy. I look forward to your next video. Happy stitching ❤️
Thanks for watching, Lisa!
Oh, what a lovely tradition, Angela! If I get grandkids someday, I might adopt that!
hey Sheri, Your videos are a Joy to watch.
I think it's always good to have multiple hobbies!
Ha - good to know, Kathie!
That's usually the mindset I have, too. And I do love the fall season!
Thank you 😊 Love everything especially your Oldie but Goodie 👏 Looking forward to your finished stitches after framing.
I love the idea of changing the light colors on your tree!
LOL
Ha - I also calculate things based on how much it will cut into stitching (or knitting) time, Wendy!
With best wishes from Down Under 😘💕🦃🇦🇺
So glad you've returned to stitching, Dianne! And I know what you mean about the stars around the Grand Canyon - just breathtaking.
I bet that will be beautiful, Michelle!
Vonna has a video on making drums excellent. I have found I like 2 or 3 wips but like to work on one . And it has helped me to get finished.
I might give it a try if I can watch a Vonna Video. They are so great!
Then 2021 will be a good year for you, with retirement to look forward to!
