I love the look of these. I have the wood handled one. Wish I had grabbed the stag handled version when you could still find them, but the wood looks good too.
Wow...didn’t realize how quick that narrowed to the tip. I wanted that one but found a sale in the 7” pinned on stag version some 5 year’s ago. Think the big one was $150ish back then. The 7” balance is right at the guard. 12.7oz with an Esee 5 thick tip. High polish stone washed blade, very nice knife, so nice I’ve barely used it. Beautifully done sheath also...
Three of my grail knives in one video. Wasn’t expecting that. That Gerber is gorgeous. Had planned on the Trail Master San Mai III, then remembered the El Gigante existed… and I’m still kinda torn between the two. Lack of a lanyard hole does kinda suck, but I’d do it EXACTLY as you’d mentioned- similar to what Pohl did for the Rambo 5 knives. Great review.
Great review dude, I have one of these knives with the wooden handle scales and I think you covered the pros and cons pretty damn well. It is indeed a beautiful knife, but I have to concurr that is not the most practical for such a large blade especially for heavy outdoorsman uses. The distal taper and swedge make very stabby but it is not very well suited to batoning and the balance point being near the choil gives it a real nimbleness in hand, and I think it would be great for self defense but that lack of forward weight really harms the chopping ability. If you are looking for a one tool option kind of knife then give it a miss, but if you want a cool looking and pretty deadly bowie style knife to use for light to medium bushcraft uses or self defense then its a fine choice in my opinion.
That is a pretty looking knife, that's aesthetically pleasing. I agree with you about the lack of a lanyard loop, I think that's a missed opportunity. Also, for the money I feel a better blade steel should be used. Thanks for sharing and Cheers!
You had to put your flare on the sheath....Love all those knives and only own the Ontario but in it's original version....Love the blade shape on em all....Good stuff....
@@peterbiltknifeguy I would like to pick up a Cold Steel Trailmaster but they don't offer the SK5 as you have to pay for the upgraded steel so I just don't want to spend $250 plus on a knife like that....Yep, playing around with knives is what forms the good ideas and mods....
It's a very handsome piece, I'll grant you that, but the absolute lack of anything resembling a pommel (or any sort of stoppage for a hand) is a dealbreaker for me. I worked with the smaller one (Esculta, if my memory serves me well), and it was definitly not my cup of tea. I can see how someone might want this as a collectors piece, but since I can't stop myself from using my knives, this one (and it's variants) are not for me
It's a beautiful knife! Almost like a piece of art. I'd disagree with you about lanyards. I have quite a few knives and not a single lanyard, so for me, these holes are just collecting dirt .
Just ordered the arbolito from Boker, apparently they're discountiong the line ,i got it for $83 and the Gigante is about $163 ,so im considering it at that price , Amazon and everyone else still lists them at $220-230 and for me that's too much for that steel
@peterbiltknifeguy kaviso, they have 2 left at the time of posting this comment. I got it yesterday. No issues besides a little rough handling from ups.
This was my favorite knife for a long time until I bent the tip pretending is was an outdoors knife. It's for saloon brawls only. It's a work of art, but Boker loves robbing people for budget steel...Like $400 for a 6" dagger in 440. Get F-ed Boker.
Just a heads up, it’s pronounced “Higantay”. What’d you mean overpriced? Good solid steel, robust construction, not made in China… Hands down best $180-200ish knife I own. I use my blades pretty hard, this one will hold up just fine. Much nicer than my Cold Steel or Ontario bowies. As for the handle, get yourself some callouses and your hand will be fine. Not hating on ya, just speaking from my own experience.

It definitely a good looking piece
I like Boker and definitely like this one. Can’t wait to see more of it! Keep them coming brother!🔥🔪🤘🇺🇸

Agree. Well said. It’s definitely a beautiful fighting knife and not so much of an outdoors knife
Gerber "Australian" bowie. Bought mine almost 30 years ago.
Nice those are great knives!!!!

Great knife...great sheath
I have that knife, 165.00 at a pawn shop in west virginia. I like it.
I definitely love the design of that my friend and I'm not much of a Boker guy
Me either. But good design
@@peterbiltknifeguy amen to that brother
Feel ok about mine. I paid $130. I feel it's well worth that price for what it is.
How wide is the widest part of the blade? Very Gorgeous knife by the way ❤
I’m not sure
@@peterbiltknifeguyLook like one and a half inch?
@@Don-bn6bx that’s probably pretty close. It’s about the same as a trailmaster
Thinking about getting a trail master in 3V although I wouldn't mind having one in O1. Thanks for the info 🔪👍🗡️

I'm eyeballing these knives since my trailmaster was ground by helen keller and got returned.
Needs a Panther Concealment Commodore sheath.
Personally I love it. I have the esculta with the green micarda that i paid 79 for and the stag that dont use for 125.
Thinking of buying one-depends on the handle though. Can anyone tell me how wide it is in the middle?
Thanks.
It’s about 3/4 inch
Do you mean width or thickness? 3/4 inch sounds too narrow, width-wise.@@peterbiltknifeguy
@@jamieclarkful it is narrow
@@peterbiltknifeguy right- thanks for the heads up.
Yeah, I’ve been waiting years now for V2.0 with a lanyard hole 🎯
I paid 130 for mine 5 years ago and the sheath has basket weave tooling
I need that
Not sure if you turned me off so much as want the stag one more. Not a trailmaster, got it. Part B: Junglas/BK9/Rtak is what I need first and foremost

From where? Everywhere I just looked it’s 230 ish plus

Nope, not for me. For a big knife, I have the Cold Steel 1917 Frontier Bowie. Oh and a Khukuri with a 12 inch blade.

😂 right. For 250-400 you better get me some quality modern steel
