My husband and I made a special stop in Soligen to inquire about the Boker knives as he was a collecter. They were so incredibly nice and friendly and welcomed us into their establishment even without an appointment. We talked for several minutes with the head of the company and were allowed to purchase a couple of knives straight from the onsite factory. I loved seeing this video because it reminds me of a wonderful experience in the beautiful country of Germany.

When I was a young man in Tennessee, I used to go to the town square in Murfreesboro and hang out with the old men sitting on the bench next to the old Civil War canons. They would whittle all day long on cedar sticks. I asked one of the men one day what he was making. He said, "Im making little sticks out of big ones"! As I sat there, these men were constantly asking the same question of anyone that came up to be around them...What kind of pocket knife do you have? If you didn't pull out a Boker knife from your pocket, you had better not pull anything out of it. It was Boker or trash. Thats where my love for Boker began. This was a sweet video. Thanks

Apparently Lennart was not only the best apprentice in knive making but rather the best of all apprentice machinists in Germany, which is a big deal. I think his statement regarding craftmanship is a really important message for young people. Learning a craft might be a better/happier option for many who feel the pressure to get university degrees.

Yeah surprisingly I'm gonna have to agree this might be one of the best videos you guys have done. I had no idea Boker had such a passionate and storied history. That is why there is a huge difference between:
    1. "Boker Manufaktur Solingen" (made there in Solingen Germany)
    2. "Boker Plus" (made all over the world, most overseas, some made in Maniago, Italy)
    3. "Boker Arbolito" (made in Argentina)
    4. "Boker Magnum" (there low budget line, made in China)
Many "knife enthusiasts" especially from The USA don't understand that.
Especially the BIG quality difference between "Boker Plus" which can also be made in China, but have way higher quality standarts and quality control than what you get from "Boker Magnum".
So this is just MHO but I would never buy a knife from Boker Magnum, but from any other of the 4 different brands I would consider to buy...

    • @Kobalta
      @Kobalta 4 роки тому +1

Good point Wilson. I write this as an ageing middle-aged university lecturer of long-standing. If I could do it all again, I would not get a degree and I would not teach undergraduates.
It is not that I do not think that education is not valuable. Quite the opposite in fact. It is just that education comes in many shapes and forms. I have learnt that one of the most valuable forms of education is that taught and supervised by the ancient guilds. Namely, the learning of a craft skill. Talking about something is all very well. Making something,.... now that impresses me.

I found a meat cleaver in a second hand store. I could not believe the maker stamp said Henry Boker. Ten dollars.
PS......Since this is attracting likes I will add.......It had been misused. Perhaps as a shake splitting fro. The spine was moderately peened over. Some rust. Original hardwood handle. I went easy on the clean up, no abrasives other than super fine steel wool here and there. Nice patina, takes a wicked edge. Heavy piece! Pride of place in my kitchen.

This video was super! This video almost makes me want to get a boker. The editing in this is phenomenal. I felt like I was watching an actual documentary. Thank you Blade HQ for making this great video!

    Nice work guys.
My favorite item in my collection is a fixed boker plus caracal in D2, sick blade.
Also, their catalog is enormous, if you could open a shop and sell all the boker knives, the shop would have to be BIG.
They use so many handle materials and designs you cannot get bored of this brand.

... so well designed, made and finished... Böker is my favorite brand when it comes to single bladed knives

These people commenting before they even watch the video ha who would even do that.
Edit: After watching this and the great people at Boker. I pulled the trigger on a knife i have been eye balling for a while. The Boker Panchenko Lancer in brass with the acid washed bead blasted blade straight from BladeHq. Thanks guys. Happy Holidays.

WOW! I just watched all 4 seasons of Black Sails which takes place in 1715. It's amazing to think that some of the tools actually used then could have been Boker.

Just bought a Boker Black Widow from Blade HQ even before I watched this. Then I watched it and I’m already satisfied and the knife hasn’t even shipped yet.
