well since getting some information from you earlier today , ive sat and watched 3 hours of your videos .. blown away , fantastic setup ,great information ,will be looking into your web site soon, keep it up Terry......
I can appreciate the amount of work you put in to dig out that hole, bud. Here in North Carolina in the US, we have heavy clay and it is always slow going. Been watching you for years and sure appreciate your attention to details.
Morning Terry. I'm always impressed with your creativity when it comes to new equipment designs for your koi pond. I'm really looking forward to seeing the skimmer up and running with hopefully a detailed explanation regarding it's construction and how it will connect to the RDF. I don't know if you have mentioned it before in a previous video but was wondering what your background is. Your equipment designs are both original and unique so I'm guessing an engineering background or maybe just all that British tea you enjoy helps plant new ideas into your head while dreaming about koi ponds each night. Looking forward to your next video.
Hi KR, Thank you for your kind comments. Very much appreciated. For the last 18 years, I was manager of a social club, and before that a lorry driver. Many, many years ago, my trade was an accident repair specialist. So I think it's the tea 😊. It will be another 3 days before I can get the sieve filter fitted and running, as I'm waiting for parts. Like you say, it will be interesting to see it working. Thanks, Terry.
In process of making my own sieve at the minute, only a small above ground system but am intrigued about your flow control setup there, looks like something of your own making but cant find any details in your other videos, any chance of some info on how thats working?
Hi mate, it works on the same principle as a butterfly valve in a carburettor. If the float drops it opens the butterfly valve, and if the float rises it closes the butterfly valve. Hope this helps, Terry.
@@Wrighty Thanks, thats what I had pictured it like in my head but the name for it to lookup examples for ideas I couldnt put my finger on. And you constructed your own? How did you go about attaching the plate/disc to the bar inside the pipe?

Loving your pond Terry. Great vids I'm moving to a bungalow soon and hope to do the same. Could you tell me in total what is your wattage now and what sort of cost etc. Whens the next video coming on?
Hi John, thank you. I am this season working on getting my power usage down. As you've seen in the video, I'm having a new adjustable pond pump. I have a 6500 lph pump on the bakki river which I could have made gravity flow. I also have a 4000 lph Eco pump on my skimmer. I have a 30w Evo 30 UV light which I wouldn't swap. My pond pump at the moment is really good but it's 165w. I'm hoping to get it down to around 100w I have a 60 lpm air pump intermittently on the pond and a 40 lpm air pump on the moving bed. So as you see, I can do quite a bit of saving on power. The problem is, I've done a lot of building and trying new things, and the filter house could do with a bit of a sort out lol. Hope this helps mate, Terry.
You could also fit an amalgam UV for inside your drum filter. You could disconnect your UV thus making some space. I have a superfish eco 15000 RC to run my pond 2 35watt air pumps and 40w UV. That's it
Great videos full of good info, just got my pond up and running this year been looking at putting a sieve filter in myself. What mesh did you use? And look very well designed.
Hello mate. Cracking video. I think with your algae, because now you have the perfect balance of biological and mechanical filtration this is keeping the algae away. Also the powerful UV light you have, and the pump not being blocked up (reducing flow rate) means it’s circulating through the uv more times. Sieve filter looks great too. Chris.
Hi Chris, thanks mate, really appreciated. I think you right. I couldn't believe it when I took the pond covers off and the pond was algae free. My pond gets a lot of sun. From 9.30am to 5pm in the summer so we'll see how it goes. I can't wait to get the sieve filter up and running, but the wife keeps finding me jobs lol. I'll get there. Thanks again mate. Terry.
