I have a pump fed system and a float switch... Just was never sure how to fit it. With the directions in your video I will wire it up this weekend 👌

I have a gravity fed system but still use a float switch in my pump chamber. In that way if for any reason the water level in the pump chamber drops below a predetermined level, ie from a broken pipe or bottom drain blockage, the pump turns off reducing the likelihood of any damage. I also have my UVC's connected to the same float switch so if the water stops flowing through them as a result of the pump being off they will not over heat or burn out. Works very well.

Or you could just put the pump in a plastic trashcan in the corner with holes drilled with a hole saw to about half the height of the can. If your water drops below the drilled holes, the trashcan act as a weir, no water from the pond gets to the pump. It won't save your pump in this situation, but it will save your animals. In this scenario, I'm ok with possibly having to buy a new pump. My solution costs $2-3 and can be purchased at any Walmart.

Interesting idea. However the pump would be pumping mid water and bot moving the sediment off the bottom?

@@leecalladine If you have an aquarium with an out flow box with a weir, the water flows over the weir, before flowing into your sump, literally to the top of your take yet it still removes sentiment to the sump.

Great idea but does anyone not have the concerns of mains voltage being used in the pond? Really this should be low voltage.
