Hi Glenn, thank you. I've had it on my pond about a week now and it's going really well. I have to keep the garden going else I get in trouble with her indoors lol. Thanks mate, Terry.
Wrighty thanks terry I do relay enjoy the hobby you have a lovey set up in the shed I like it a lot I wish I had a little bit more room in my garden so I could do the same lol keep up the good work top job as always 👍👌
Should Hoover the mesh 👍 nice build I've seen the new one that you installed that looks great i'm going to incorporate a sieve next year they are brilliant 👍👍
I really enjoy learning how you change the screen on the RDF and 60 microns should work fabulous! My plants are not really doing much either! I really like your sieve filter it’s doing the trick for you for sure! Everything is looking great my friend! ~Eric
Brilliant video Terry. Your water is looking fantastic. I have the same test kit as you have but the only thing I find frustrating is I cant seam to find the refills separately anywhere. As I've got all my fish in a quarintine tank in my garage whilst I upgrade my pond and fit new liner I'm going through my test kit very quickly. But mate cracking setup you have
Hi Leigh, thanks for your kind comments mate. You are right, I haven't seen any top up kits either mate. If I do come across any I'll let you know. Terry.
All is looking well with your pond and each video I see I want more kit. I got an Evo25 yesterday on my pond because my water is very green and I am hoping so much it will clear it for me. My pond is only about 4000liters so the Evo25 should be more than enough but so far not seen much difference but will give it a week or so. :) I am now considering a bakki shower but no idea where to even begin. Take care Terry :)
Hi Chris, Thank you, the Evo should sort you out mate, only it might take a bit more than a week depending how green your pond was. It might go brown first, that's the dead algae floating but your filter should clear it mate. A bakki shower is quite easy to build. You'll find loads of videos here on how to build them. In fact I built one just before I built the river. Any problems give me a shout pondfilters@gmail.com
Another great video Wright, I feel like such an amateur after watching. If my tosai can grow into fish like yours I'll be over the moon. All the best Mountain Koi
Hi mate, Thank you for your kind comments. Your videos look fine to me. very informative. Your koi should do well in your pond. It's a very nice pond and a good size. Thanks, Terry.
Hi, This is an old video. I have a new 6mm polypropylene version of the RDF out now ua-cam.com/video/QzQvSzczJrw/v-deo.html I do have all the instructions and build plans on my website: diypondfilters.com Hope this helps. Terry.
I think your skills are superb! Just one piece of advice regarding your stocking levels - if you’re showing more than trace elements on water tests with all that filtration, you are well overstocked. If a problem were to flare up you might well be too late to save your fish!
Hi Mark, Thank you. Your absolutely right. I am way over stocked and looking to reduce the number. This stems from some young from when one of my koi spawned quite some time ago. It was ok while they were small, but as we know they grow and now it is a problem. Thank you for your comment and advice. Very much appreciated. Terry.
Hi Dale, I did put feed balls in the plant and lily baskets to give them a hand, but they don't seem to be doing much at the moment mate. Thanks and I appreciate the help, Terry.
Hi Terry great video as always, have you changed the mesh because of the prefilter taking most of mess out before it gets to the RDF, do you think 🤔 I should change my mesh to this one without a prefilter if so link please for purchase. 😎👍👍
Hi Richard, I changed the mesh like you say because the Pre-filter is doing the job on the bigger dirt. I did try running the 60 mesh when I first built the RDF, but the larger dirt was blocking it and made it much harder to keep the 60 mesh clean. Now the pre=filter takes out the big stuff and the RDF is handling the finer dirt which seem to be working at the moment mate. Will let you know how it goes. Terry.
Really enjoying your videos. As for your plants, have you checked the other nutrients besides Nitrates (NO3)? There is P, K, Ca, Mg, S, Fe and a handful of others. Edit: Having said that, algae growth might perhaps become more prevalent with additional other key nutrients.
Hi Malte, Thank you. Glad you enjoy the videos. I've not checked other nutrients, and like you say it will encourage the algae growth as well if improved. I must admit I am enjoying a pond with no string/hair algae. Thanks for your comment, Terry.
Hi where did you get them.water jets from in the rdf that clean the mesh ? And.what are they called please Love your setup and looking at building my own rdf Cheers
Hi Ricky, You can get the full instructions with videos on how to build this RDF in the shop on my website diypondfilters.com there is also a full list of parts. Thanks, Terry.
Hi wright. How do you fix your stones to your 15mm pipe? Do you use a reducing nipple to go to the standard 4mm pipe and if so how do you fix it? Ta mate.
Hi Terry, my brother in law and I had a bash at at sieve filter at the weekend (video on my channel) works well but it is clogging far to quickly as the mesh was left over from my drum 50 micron. What micron did you use on your sieve?
Hi Chris, As the Cloverleaf is not cheap, I would wait until you see it starting to appear in the pond and then dose. If your lucky and your nitrates are low, you never know you might not need it. It's very good but does make a mess of the pond for a week. Terry.
Hi loved watching all your videos but being totally honest i was surprised with your water testing. In the video the readings look higher then what you have suggusted. Would hate to see you loose any koi. Have you thought about giving some away and maybe adding more bio ?
For the video I use a Canon camera and the picture colour enhancer does make the liquid colour a bit darker than it actually is. I can assure you, the results I gave are correct. I do say in a lot of my videos that I'm way over stocked for my size pond and I will have to sort it out. I have 100 ltr of K1 and 50 ltr of siporax which is double the amount needed for my pond size, so some will have to go. Thanks, Terry.
Hi mate, I have always had 1 or 2 orfe in my pond with the koi. If you look at the fish in my pond, there is a quite large one in there now. Having them comes from years ago. When you kept koi, you always had 1 or 2 orfe in the pond. The reason being that if the water quality wasn't good, the first thing affected were the orfe. They were like an early warning system to protect the koi. We didn't have the equipment then we have now. Thanks, Terry.
I’m watching your videos not for the first time, admire your love for koi carps! but what surprises me is that you have so many degrees of water purification, you also use chemicals and still you have algae in the water and water as they say in our Russian Federation blooms! How is it possible? Why then so many filters and UV lamps if even without all this the result is the same?big greetings from russia
Hi, The reason for my filtration is that now I don't use chemicals. I don't have blanket weed or hair algae. I have the short growing algae which looks good in a pond. My water quality is about spot on, which is good when you consider I have 40 koi in a very small pond. But above all that I really enjoy doing it. Thanks, Terry.
If you test the water. You must get the red tops of the test tubes and watch from above. Because also the red top reflects on the water and test will look more red. Also try using jbl testkit. Colombo start with 0.5 and jbl with 0.05. So jbl is much more accurate
That's just your point of view mate. I look at it as my enjoyment. I have plenty of time as I'm retired. I enjoy what I'm doing and I'm not worried about the money. Where's the problem. Terry.
Top job Terry 👍
Thanks mate, much appreciated, Terry.
Always a treat to log into UA-cam and see another quality video from you. Please keep up the excellent work.
Thanks Rick, always appreciated mate and will do my best. Take care, Terry

Wrighty Terry that’s the way it always works out! Every time we get things the way we want it we find something new to try or to improve! lol ~Eric
should have rolled the end of the screen around a pipe to keep it taut as it was fitted , that was a two person job

Hi, very impressed how easily you changed the micro mesh, but you didn’t show us how you trimmed it to length. Can you cut this stuff with scissors?
Hi Stephen, Thank you. You can cut it with scissors or a sharp Stanley Knife. Terry.

Hi Nick, Thanks mate, Terry
One day I'll come see this in the flesh
Great video, your filter designs are quality.
How much water change do you do on this pond?
Hi james, thank you for your kind comments. I drop about 2" of water out of the pond a week and then top up usually. Terry.
you might try pond tabs in your baskets to help feed the plants it direct feeding and it helps mine a lot. From rainy Toledo ohio

hi wrighty, been watching your videos for a while, do you ever do a partial water change
Hi, Yes mate, I change 2 to 3 inches at least in a week. Terry.
Hi Terry, isn't 60 mesh less fine than 70 mesh?
On the RDF I've gone to a 60 micron from a 70 micron. 60 is that bit finer mate, Terry
the holes in the screen are 60 microns instead of 70
@@Wrighty Cheers Terry, think I'm getting my 'mesh count' and 'microns' mixed up to be honest
