What a profoundly concussive episode on a sandwich that represents the platonic ideal of the beef animal. What really makes rye the perfect choice of bread here though is the ethereal aromatics brought about by the intense maillard reaction. A truly quintessential food object.
nailed it lol
hahahhahaha
Incredibly well done!
Cool Whip ROTFLMFAO!!!!!!!
QUINTESSENTIAL.
how maillard is the rye platonism
hahaha you are killing me
"The beef animal."
Oh, you must be thinking of a dog.
krip
"turkey, cole slaw, Russian dressing, it's a classic. People come in, they order a Ted Danson!"
"THE BEEF ANIMAL"
My new favourite.
hahahahaha
"the Important Animals"
I die.
Boeuf. We call cow meat beef because of the french. If the meat is named differently from the animal, it's because of the french. Beef, pork, mutton, venison...
what a cow amarite
an extremely concussive episode
This comment section fucking kills me. This is why I watch Nick's videos ahah
If you're going to the Millburn Deli, you have to try the Godfather. Growing up in Millburn, it's basically the only reason most of us ever went to the deli
Millburn deli is insane completely agree
I'm a fan of the Gobbler myself. Thanksgiving dinner in sandwich form.
Formally from Livingston and I concur. We have like 4-5 delis in town and everyone still prefers Millburn Deli.
want some bread and meat with your mayonnaise
Saul Gewddman which is just mayonnaise
I wish there were more Deli's around instead of just grocery stores.
"However, we have more important animals to eat, let's move on to the ham."
"That's good, but I might prefer the turkey."
Make up your mind, Nick.
Nick is such a ham.
He prefers beef over turkey but turkey over boiled ham. Makes sense. Hes indirectly telling the owners to use better ham, German is my fav.
t500010000 I think he's saying they should be roasting their own Ham..they already do their own Turkey and Roast Beef..
He generally prefers ham in sandwiches, but happened to like the turkey one more of the two after having tasted it in this particular one.
You're just being a bit dumb.
I actually appreciate the honesty. I mean, you get videos like this on UA-cam where everything is just so amazing, even if they're eating some shitty fast food burger. But here he was willing to say that the ham wasn't so great, which I don't think is something that's easy to do when you're visiting a beloved business and were hosted by the owners themselves.
How evocative was the platonic, maillard reaction?
Tony Joseph it was very umami
chicoktc Dude, I died
normal owners are owners. hipster owners with handlebar mustaches, waistcoats and cravats are "proprietors."
Say what you want about Nick but his passion for food shines through. His word choice is unique but no one else uses it. His videos are great.
For all those in the comments saying “this isn’t a sloppy Joe” I have two things to say:
1. This Sloppy Joe predates the hamburger/sauce version.
2. If you’ve never had one, you don’t know what you’re missing. They’re amazing.
These sandwiches are really good. I’ve had Sloppy Joe’s from both Milburn and Town Hall. Unless I’m mistaken, there’s kind of a friendly rivalry between the two businesses. They’re only about 4 miles apart. Certain customers swear that one is better than the other and are very loyal to their favorite one. Like I said, I’ve had both and they’re both extremely good. I couldn’t say which one is better.
@@Whoopdido777 The best one is whichever one is in front of me.
@@vinnygi Probably a good way to describe them. I don’t live in that area, so I had to get them shipped to me via Goldbelly, but if I did live in that area and I was in the mood for one I definitely wouldn’t pass by one place just to get one from the other place. They’re basically equally as good in my opinion, so I’d go to whichever place I was closer to at the time.
I remeber a place called Old World Deli in Binghamton, NY that made a sandwich like this called Dickinson Special. Triple decker Reuben on marble rye, swiss cheese, and with coleslaw instead of sourkrought. They may have used thousand island instead of Russian dressing. Looks good
I'm a millburn native and let me tell you that deli is freaking amazing. Anything you get there is dank. Sloppy joes is a huge staple
Bo Brown godfather🔥
Same bud, My favorite joe is a Friday
I agree best food ever
Millburn resident and the godfadda is insane
jay ray all the way
Turkey is wonderful and American !
Clicked on the video and it's the deli I drove past yesterday on my way home from Morristown.
How phantasmagorical was the flavor?
'pigs and the beef animal' - it's called a cow, Nick. A cow.
Milburn Deli has some very good Sloppy Joe’s - almost as good as the Avenue Deli a couple miles away in New Providence. Avenue has been making the same sandwich for 75 years passed down from the same family. It’s kind of a New Jersey secret - everybody knows the rules.
When they say other place in NJ, they mean Town Hall.
This place looks awesome. Great video👍
Las Vegas Carnivore it is awesome
Component, component, component in every single episode of the meat show is component
Same sandwiches from deli in Morristown...also in New Jersey. Left to go to college in Ohio where I was introduced to tomato version. Prefer deli meat, hands down!
You went to the wrong deli for sloppy joes, Eater. Town Hall Delicatessen in South Orange, two towns over from the deli in the video. The true birthplace of the sloppy joe!
Stop hating on turkey. If you prepare right, it tastes amazing
Who else watches food videos when they're hungry and all it does is just make themselves more hungry..... just me?
Vito W I watch nick videos when I am quenching with the most supple thirst for his unctuous, exquisite vocabulary
"More important animals to eat." I like that.
this guy is really proud of his leica
Eater needs to post all of Nicks new videos on Mondays so everyone can start their week with a concussive amount of profound joy.
ugh I haven't had a sloppy joe form nj for a long time. turkey and corned beef are my personal favourites.
NJ sloppy joe should have have two meats on it. The ones I've had were 2 meat triple deckers. That's the way they were made by the deli that invented it.
The sandwhich conforms like a dumpling
Awesome video! Comments are halarious and nick is just a joy to watch
In my area there's a diner that serves a great Mac-n-Cheese...but instead of the type of Mac-n-Cheese you're accustomed to it's a tossed green salad with bacon & blue cheese.
"You cant classify us" "We're a Millburn deli"
I've always liked this guy, just good vibes, who cares if he uses cool words, its not pedantic in my opinion, just his point of view which actually gives ME a better idea of what its like, i want a review, obviously saying meat is good and salty is cool but im really watching people eat food to review it in an entertaining way...which this is
Corned beef is crying to me on this. I love roast beef with cole slaw. HEY... any of those Brooklyn hipsters doing Loose Meat sandwiches yet? TOO GOOD
show us the part where the food is actually consumed and not thrown into the bin
I've been living in NJ for 15 years and I never knew about this.
Nick is so working class 1950's industry. Definitely not a hipster, and definitely has a lot in common with people who frequent these places.
“We have more important animals to eat” this HAS to to on an EATER t-shirt.
Constitchual component huh. Do you consult a thesaurus just before you film?
can someone actually link to a video where he says "the platonic ideal"?
vash47 the video is called "what makes the perfect burger: a tribute to Josh ozersky"
" the beef animal "
wtf
God i'm craving me some profound turkey sandwiches in which each constituent component represents the platonic ideal rn
I wish I old go and get the roast beef right now but delivery to Canada would be a bit expensive.
TRUTH BOMB @1:31
Yoooooo I get sandwiches from here all the time
The Beef Animal 😂😂
As soon as he takes the first bite, you can see him enter descriptive mode.
Why wouldn't you do this at Town Hall Deli in West Orange? That's where the sandwhich originally comes from and it's a much better version.
Michael Fischer you know that is not the type of neighborhood they want to represent this sandwich
Jane D are you implying that west orange isn't safe? I live in the area in between both towns they are very similar lol
I grew up there. My parents had a store directly across from the Original Town Hall Deli I played in that park all the time. The Sloppy Joe should be represented by the originators
Michael Fischer guess they should fly to Cuba then! ;)
If that's a Sloppy Joe, than a Taylor Ham/Pork Roll is just a bologna sandwich.
Love your show. Hoboken NJ. Vito's Deli....The Cuban and the Roast Beef. ..try them...enough said.
Hmmmmm. I'm hungry for the roast beef sloppy joe right now!!! I could go there this week... It's max of 70 miles away...
You are gonna start a lot of fights in Jersey picking just one sloppy Joe! There are lots of places who have great ones.
How was the tensile strength of the roast beef?
wow, I can't believe this is the only kind of sloppy joe you can get in the entire state!
I often refer to myself as the beef animal.
Funeral sandwiches! Lol
So it's Cuban inflected?
P R O F O U N D
That stuff is for kids. Go to Mr. J's in Cranford NJ and yourself a Dagwood sandwich.
Ooo, I’m craving one so bad right now! (And that’s coming from someone who’s not a huge fan of cole slaw and Russian dressing.) And I want one of their Godfather sandwiches that Millburn natives are hyping up in the comments too!
Bragmans deli in Newark, Nj has the best sloppy joes my favorite is the Janice
Where did you find him?
"Can you make a buhgeh from this sloppy Joe?"
Id eat that over a normal sloppy joe any day !
Don't mind me just here for the comments
No concussive crunches?
Looks awesome! :)
They look yummy, no doubt. But calling that a sloppy joe is like calling Sanka an espresso, because they're both coffee drinks.
This sloppy Joe predates the hamburger version.
The rest of the country calls this sandwich a Rachel.
Do they dry age the sandwiches?
Also the best version of the Slopy Joe is done with Beef Tongue
My god this is definitely entering my road trip stops..
AriesMale88 its really good especially the godfather
I go there all the time really cool
Makes me think of horseradish I do LOVE horseradish!!!!
"The Beef Animal"
omfg constituent components
nxt school year my ambition is to eat and review food
Jersey has the best sloppy joes!!!
I love rare roast beef!!!! They dont do that in the Pacific Northwest.
2:45 Why are you holding your breath again while you're eating?
Did anyone Nick or otherwise eat those pickles?
This is a Reuben
GOD I AM SCARED I DO NOT WANT TO DIE
Petition to rename cows T H E B E E F A N I M A L
how is that even near rye bread? meat show should do Finland and see what proper rye bread is.
You shoot Leica if you want to look cooler than your photographs
Is this dry aged too ?
hey everyone, look at his camera!!!
I've lived in New Jersey all my life, and I've never heard of this atrocity.
Sounds like some insidious imported Hudson River Bridge and Tunnel conspiracy. The rye bread alone is a dead giveaway of it's foreign Five Borough roots. No-one from NJ puts Cole Slaw on a sandwich! A Sloppy Joe is crumbled browned hamburger simmered in tomato sauce....preferably Manwich... served on white bread or a soft Italian roll.
Madison, New Jersey invented the Sloppy Joe, not Milburn
So....it's a Reuben...?
Slip and Slide Sandwich.
You need to get over this "dry aged" beef routine, it's getting old! We all know it's your preference.
The first bite is great and then every bite after that get more and more overwhelming. I can never finish. The coleslaw has mayo and then the russian dressing is also super creamy and sweet and its wayyy too much and gets very soggy very fast. I always ask them to go light with it but they never do. ☹️ however their chicken bruschetta panini is one of the best sandwiches ive ever had. And their pickles are delicious and i am not a pickle fan.
Sandwich....its a sandwich. It's just an interesting sandwich. Not a sloppy joe. I'm from jersey and if I ordered a sloppy Joe and got that...as good as it looks....it be annoyed I didn't get what I wanted
